The smartest thing would be to play Tim Anderson at catcher. If he sucks they can just draft Bart or if he's gone the next best catcher available and have him or her take Tim's place. The draft is the 4th through the 6th of June so that gives Tim a nice 2 week window to prove himself.

I’ve seen his hit tool FV at 50-55, it sure how that translates to professional advanced pitching, or how long it will take for the hit tool to enable his best tool plus power. While I think the Bryant comps are probably off base, I would take a Troy Glaus career arch, big right, thumper corner IF guy in a second.

I think it needs to be said that following every prospect's game to game results is not healthy, I know we're at the point where we have to in order to hold interest but it's like weighing yourself every morning, the daily results are not necessarily indicative of the overall picture and that's not great for the psyche.

Well yes and the fact that Machado is a better all around player than JD. People can trash Manny's defense at SS all they want but even a below average defender at a premium position is much more valuable than a horrendous defender at a non-premium position. Plus Manny has the ability to play SS and 3B whereas JD was barely passable as an OF only (but really he's a DH).

Running in primaries against other candidates isn't "attacking dems," though. You seem gleeful that more progressive candidates are losing simply because Sanders' organization endorsed them. Guess what! There's lots of disagreement ideologically within the Democratic base as well! A lot of people are beyond frustrated with the approaches of the Clintons and Schumers of the world. A whole lot of people were disillusioned when Obama's Hope and Change was undermined by people like Lieberman. I hate that my rep is probably the worst Dem in Congress (Lipinski), it's a shame he barely held on in his primary despite being "attacked" by someone daring to challenge him and his awful policies. There's plenty of dumb in the Sanders camp, too. Some who'll never reconcile with voting for the least-bad and vote Clinton in 2016 or Booker/etc. in 2020. They want Bernie or someone to his left or they'll sit out. They see the Democratic party as offering little more than half-measures that still largely appease modern capitalism and capitalists because, hey, that's who their wealthy donors are. But at the same time, guys like you need to realize you're going to have to reconcile with at least some of that more progressive base who's distrustful of the Democratic establishment and the DNC. What good do you think your attitude does? How many potential progressive voters do you think that sort of vitriol directed at anyone who dares to challenge a Democratic establishment which has sucked for a very long time are turned off by it?

Good column. I approve of this part the most ... I don't think Ricky is THE biggest problem in the organization, of course. He didn't bring in this sorry collection of pitchers/players to hold down the fort as we wait for the young reinforcements for the most part. But I like this part of the column I know the rebuild wasn’t always going to be linear. But it doesn’t have to be lazy and embarrassing. That cutesy slogan that “Ricky’s boys don’t quit”? Someone needs to amend it because too many of Ricky’s boys quit running when it’s the easiest thing in the game to do.

He's actually improved his BA by 20 points and his OBP by 27 points from last year. Dude is on the upswing can't send him down now.

His upside has always been Ramirez with more speed. His downside has always been a poor man's Ramirez, again with speed. It's a great comp, they have incredibly similar skillsets at SS. Fangraphs has him at +3 runs with the glove this year, and with a wRC+ of 88 he's at .8 fWAR, on pace for a solid 2.2 fWAR season. He's developed pretty nicely this season, but I still want to see more power. Too many times he's up there just trying to make contact. His approach is better but when he swings too often he's not fully committed. His next step will be to become good guess hitter with two strikes instead of just being in protect mode. Too often he gets jammed or otherwise gets himself out on hanging breaking balls on 2-2 and 3-2 counts.

The White Sox are so insular that they probably do think that Machado will like it here so much he'll beg to come; that's the only thing that could possibly explain a rebuilding team trying to trade for 1 year of his services. It's ridiculous. Rosenberg went a little hyperbolic, but he is correct: the play is sloppy.

This post is a bit disingenuous. Beckham had a total of 196 PAs above A ball before being called up. Most of those were in AA where he had an .862 OPS, over 100 points shy of Eloy's current AA OPS of .968, with similar numbers for the 209 PAs he's had in AA. Beckham wasn't doing nearly the level of damage with the bat that Eloy is, and I doubt anyone would be calling for a promotion for him if his OPS was .862. Further, if he's not going to even possibly get the call until mid-July, that's another 120-150 PAs. If he still has a .950ish OPS after 330-360 PAs, what more would he have to prove in AA? At that point, AAA could be an option, but the pitching isn't much more of a challenge and the hitting environment in general is much better than in AA, and he's already destroying AA pitching. Seems like MLB would be the most logical place to give him his next challenge.

Without people noticing, the NBA has become a much more pure form of basketball than college, especially since they actually play defense. The only thing a bit boring about basketball at the moment, and it's similar to the K/Power issue in baseball, is the realization that 3s are the best thing to shoot means if you want to know who will win it's just who made the most of their 3s that night. ?‍♂️

It always comes down to who offers him the most money. If the offers are all the same, he'll pick a city he likes with a team that wins. If the Sox want Machado, they will have to blow away the other offers. It's always how it has worked. If the White Sox actually think they can sweet talk their way to a discounted contract, that's laughable. I don't think they are, but the supposed attempt to trade for him last winter makes me wonder. That whole, if he sees how it is here, he will like it and take less money is a joke.

While I don't necessarily agree totally with Steve I can see his point. The last decade has been awful for the franchise. Unless the Sox are willing to offer way more money / years than another team you wonder if any of the "Type-A" "Superstar" free agents are going to really consider them. Potential is a nice word but these guys want to win and win now (again all things being relatively equal salary-wise). Given the circumstances and their history I'd be shocked if the Sox land one of the top guys this off season. I'd welcome it but I'm not counting on it. I do think however the Sox will be able to sign some guys who can make a positive contribution in 2019, especially in the bullpen but as far as signing someone that would send shock waves across the baseball landscape? Don't think so.

If I pretended (i) that Jose Abreu, Tim Anderson, Lucas Giolito, Zack Collins, Seby Zavala, Yolmer Sanchez, and Matt Davidson (and others) didn't exist; (ii) that there is no free agency or trade market; and (iii) that top prospects typically languish and suck at the big league level for two-three years before contributing, I would agree with this. But this timeline is totally divorced from reality and recent rebuild history. I've said this before, but by your timeline, the Cubs and Astros should be getting decent any day now...

It doesnt matter to me what gender your candidate is. And I guess the difference between you and I, is that whatever happened in the last election is the past. If Sanders won the Democratic nomination, Id support him and I would hope that others who may not believe he is their "best" champion, would understand that he is a far "better" champion than the other side. The next Presidential election is going to come down to a few states. The candidate I feel is best able to win those states is the one Id likely go with. At certain times in history ends have to justify the means. I hope that our country can return to some bipartisan normalcy, but until that day, I will play to win. Youre right I am privileged, but you would be incorrect in your belief that I cannot understand a run in with police. I have had plenty, I have been the target of fake police nonsense that resulted in something far worse than an hour bad experience. I help people who are being arrested while they are being arrested. I get emergency phone calls while the police are there, and one time I actually believed I was going to be on the phone when someone was going to be shot by the police, while I was screaming at them to calm down. Maybe thats not good enough, maybe my "privileged position" makes me incapable of determining a strategy for permanent change. But you also have to be a realist. While I would love to imagine a day where I wake up and everyone is cool to everyone else, that just is not going to happen in my lifetime. Ive had clients ask me to "jew" down the side and other equally ignorant things. But youre right, I can never put myself in anyone elses shoes, just like they could never put themselves in mine. All I can say is, if you want any change, you need to win. And maybe it will come faster than you thought, but most of the time it will be slower. I make it a rule to NOT read comments sections. As a rule, that is where the least informed and most opinionated people hang out. And let's be honest here. Nothing the Chicago PD has to say about 20 years ago should be accepted as fact. They routinely tortured people into confessions for crimes they didn't commit in order to close cases, and in some times to cover their own crimes, even keeping a secret interrogation center off of the books that the used to beat subjects into submission. The City of Chicago has paid out over nine figures in lawsuits and settlements to pay off victims of these crimes. People like Jon Burge wrote confessions for victims and fed them to them, so his "knowing" details of the crime while being innocent isn't even that implausible. Finally there is zero physical evidence connecting him or the other man convicted of this crime. At this point, this is Donald Trump saying that the Central Park 5 are still guilty, even after they have been full exonerated.
