I accidentally reacted to this post so now I need to comment. There are some sentiments I would agree with but larry is so obnoxious and sss has declined so miserably I just am annoyed having read it.4 points

I’d like to get Greg and Dick Allen’s reaction to this trade, but I’m guessing they’re too busy eating crow. #internetdoesnotforget4 points

Eloy Jimenez was an A-ball prospect. Gleyber Torres is a 22-year-old slashing .289/.347/.542/.889 for the New York Yankees .3 points

I am not trading Carlos Rodon for anything short of a significant overpay, and I don't see that happening. The Padres are interesting, but I don't want Mejia as only significant piece. Dude isn't going to be a catcher, and when he's not a catcher, he's not nearly as exciting.3 points

About half dozen young pitchers throughout the organization have made comments about Shields helping them with pitches, preparation, etc.2 points

I would wait until next year's deadline to make a call on Rodon. If the Sox look strong and on the up with more of our young studs up and some fat trimmed then you hold onto Rodon as the competitive window is truly opening. If they come out struggling like this year (which i highly doubt) you get the best deal u can for him and we strap in for the long term rebuild.2 points

I understand that, but there is no track record. Rodon has more of a track record of being a MLB pitcher than Torres has of being an MLB hitter, despite him coming up and setting the world on fire. Gordon Beckham put up similar numbers when he was called up. Any questions Now? Until a player is established, you don't know if their first year is a fluke or not. Wait until Torres has to make adjustments. We'll see. Beckham slashed .270/.347/.460/.808 for the Sox in 2009. Until Torres does it again, it means nothing.2 points

Which is totally fine if teams don't value him as a controllable TOR right now. But if a team is offering up a haul for him right now, take the prospects and run. We can always use the acquired prospects (or the depth it creates) to land a TOR starter when the time is right (hopefully prior to the 2020 season).2 points

If we aren't competitive in 2021 then in no way should this management team be in charge of trading one of our top assets again.2 points

Rodon's potential outweighs his performance by so much that I don't see how this trade could go down. The Sox asking price would be on Q levels, but it doesn't seem likely that a team would be willing to pay that price for what Rodon could be. I don't think Rodon would have a lower asking price than Chris Archer and Archer has a much better track record of health and success.2 points

Alot of hitting streaks right now. Basabe has a 15 game hitting streak. (Has hit safely in 17 of his last 18 games). Rutherford quietly has a 10 game hitting streak (hit safely in 12 of his last 13 games). Eloy and Sosa with 6 game hitting streaks (both have hit safely in 8 of his last 9 games, Eloy with 15 of his lasts 17 ABs). Gonzalez with only a 4 game hitting streak (he has hit safely in 11 of his last 12 games). Bush and Delgado also with 4 gamers (each have hit safely in 8 of their last 9 games).2 points

Every team's fans thinks their manager tinkers to much. Sox just have crappy hitters.1 point

Also please move Yolmer down in the order. No reason he should be getting so many more at bats that Anderson or Avi1 point

And... variance continues to smack Lopez in the face. Deep down, I knew it. I didn't want to believe the peripherals, though.1 point

The crew chief felt they were underperforming even with an underperforming roster so he told them to go home.1 point

I blame Cooper for him never throwing the changeup. What is the point of this season if a guy like Lopez isn’t trying to develop a third pitch at the major league level?1 point

Lopez on just an awful run right now. Regression catching up to him. He's definitely pitching himself into a question mark. He needs to come into the games with more focus and for the love of god develop a better changeup1 point

I get the sneaking suspicion that these boxes will be checked right after Shields and/or one of the Garcias is traded.1 point

The rebuild got pushed back in the mind of a lot of Sox fans who naively thought Machado was a lock to sign here this upcoming offseason .1 point

This is the point. Albies, who has been up all year, does not have enough of a sample size for the statistical models to adjust. Until there is enough of a sample size that the models adjust, any performance (or lack thereof) at the MLB level is meaningless. You tell me a team that values performance in the majors that puts one iota of value on performance at the MLB level before the sample size is statistically significant, and I'll show you a GM who needs to be fired yesterday.1 point

Dunning and Cease have both credited Shields specifically for helping them plus there were multiple times during spring training where Shields was shown to be hanging around after practice or during time off and holding court with the young guys and teaching them stuff. I don't think its enough of a reason for us to not trade him if we can, but I also wouldn't doubt that we bring him back as a pitching coach once he retires.1 point

Sox killer in the NL West, good riddance. Hopefully those prospects dont pan out1 point

I gotta say watching Rodon pitch the other night with his jersey hanging off his chest and that little cocky smirk he had on his face made me proud to be a Sox fan and we haven't had many of those moments lately. He's totally the sort of guy that moves the needle in a playoff game and it would be nice to see him start one.1 point

Yea I'm the same. I don't think you can really evaluate a guy until he's got about 1000 PA under his belt at the MLB level, maybe even more. A great example of this is that ZIPS actually sees a 103 wRC+ for Moncada ROS and a 104 wRC+ for Ozzie Albies. The projection systems certainly don't believe that Albies is really a 135 wRC+ type -- not yet anyways.1 point
-
That doesn't prove your point. You were making a false equivalency between a major league player and an A ball prospect.1 point
-
It's amazing how much 250 or so PA turned Torres into a guy that is guaranteed to put up a 900 OPS until he's 33. Torres is also not long for 2B imo. At least not full time.1 point

I tend to agree, however it takes two to tango. As long as Boras is representing Rodon, you have to believe his intention is to go to the open market with no exceptions. Strasburg is the only Boras client that was performing well but re-signed with the team that drafted him, and there were extenuating circumstances revolving around that.1 point

I still think there will be a big regression to the mean next year. This team, while not good, was not as bad as it played. The worst in ks/worst in walks stuff, I just think we'll have a nice snap back next year.1 point

What about the Braves with a package built around Austin Riley. That would solve our hole at third and they have so many arms we could probably get a pretty good one to help replace Rodon.1 point

Correct. Essentially I'm saying Rodon isn't "for sale" unless someone is stupid.1 point

I'd also be hesitant to deal with Preller again since he may be hiding medical info or something like last time1 point
-
Not surprised by this, as he's looked wonderful of late. If Hahn got a Q-like package for him, I say do it. We still have no idea if he can stay healthy for extended periods and with Boras as his agent, the expectation is he jumps when he's a free agent. WSD has suggested in the past that the Sox haven't cared for his offseason preparation. Brewers, Yankees, Braves and Padres seem to be the best fits.1 point

Hard to do the math on it because you don't really know the counts in those situations .. for instance was it 1-2 count or 3-2 count. Obviously the 3-2 count would be a walk. And you don't know what he'd do right after that pitch. Let's say it was 1-2 and he got rung up -- maybe on 2-2 he gets rung up watching one down the middle. But for fun: He's struck out 33.4% of appearances right now - so every 1/3. If he were to not strikeout in any of those 34 bad calls he'd be at 25% strikeout rate. Now let's cut it in half. Let's say he got a hit or walk on half of those appearances (high number) his OBP would be .354. That's being very generous to him, but if he had a 25% strikeout ratio with a .354OBP and figure out of those 17 extra times he gets on base a few are doubles or a homer with some RBI's attached? All of a sudden his stat line is looking a lot stronger.1 point

Danish currently not on 40 man. If he stays off, he will probably be selected by somebody in Rule 5. Might as well bring him up now, given recent success. Then, if he gets lit up, he'll be gone.1 point
