The difference between the Twins and the Sox is Twins ownership doesn't tolerate continued underperformance. In 2016, the Twins fired their beloved GM, Terry Ryan. Before the start of the 2019 season, the Twins fired Paul Molitor a year after earning Manager of the Year. You don't get to rest on your laurels. The Twins know when they need to bring in fresh perspective. You could argue the Sox came into 2019 with a better looking team on paper than the Twins. The difference is the off-season moves and and commitment to fielding a competitive product game in and game out...not providing job security to underperforming patsies under the banner of a multi year rebuild.

The Twins just made this Sox team look a AAA squad. This series should put to rest any thoughts that the Sox have any chance to compete this year or next. It is time to embrace the tank. Remember that Houston punted away 5 consecutive seasons. Minnesota has been in a rebuild since 2011. This is only year 3 of the Sox rebuild. The Sox need to continue to stock the farm with top 5 picks. It's time to take our losses on the chin over the next few years and hopefully we can get after it in 2022 or so.

Minnesota is #1 in the MLB in runs scored by 30 and OPS by 20 and less in most other categories. The White Sox are rebuilding. What did people really expect to happen?

Madrigal was the best college hitter in the draft. Teams had 70 grades on his hit tool and defense. Madrigal is really safe. I preferred Kelenic but completely understood going Nick Madrigal and it's waaaaay to early to make determinations on the pick at this point.

Excuses? For f*ck sake. Minnesota spent years in the sh*tter, and have finally started to play competitive baseball. They are a good baseball team as currently constructed. It was bound to happen, because unlike the White Sox, they chose to rebuild years ago, and not continue to drag mediocre squad through the mud and call it a competitive unit. The White Sox are currently amidst a complete ground zero rebuild, have a lineup with more holes in it than a fine Swiss cheese and a pitching rotation with effectively one guy who is established for the future, and a bunch of guys who are looking like pen arms at best (MAYBE Lopez turns it around, but it's looking bleak, and I don't have much faith that Covey can put his stuff together consistently). Those aren't excuses, those are the facts. If you want to brush them off, that's your prerogative, but don't b*tch at other people because you choose to live in blissful ignorance.

Love the excuses. If the Sox players are that intimidated by playing in front of a sold out park in Minnesota then it is time to strip the roster and get new players. Also, any Sox fan with half a brain should be concerned about Minnesota suddenly looking very good.Those dudes do play in our division after all. Will it be okay to b**** if they are still kicking our asses this time next year?

For starters, I would expect better than the Twins scoring 25 of the last 26 runs in the series. Everything about this series after the 2nd inning on Friday sucked. Hitting was terrible, pitching was ridiculously bad besides Covey and the outfield defense was embarrassing.

It is hard to embrace this tank after the Twins series. It's even harder after watching game three. They had only two guys in the lineup that you would consider part of the team's future. They brought up a young catcher who made a throwing error and looked totally over-matched at the plate. Poor guy struck out five straight times. This club reminds me of the 1970 team that lost 106. I know they won't lose 100, but they just don't look like a major league team, not even a bad one.

By that calendar, this is year 7 of the Sox rebuild.

I'm the one that tweeted this earlier and I was para-phrasing Hostetler. It's obviously not the most important factor but the fact that Madrigal has been on winning teams his entire life is a benefit. His makeup is off the charts. Jake Burger is similar in that regard. Those dudes are going to get everything they can out of their ability because they work harder than lots of guys. I understand the concerns with Madrigal and they're warranted. The hope is that the contact skills are so good that once he gets stronger and gets to use the juiced baseballs more power unlocks. Nobody fucking said that he's going to develop power because of his winning mentality though.

There is also zero question in my head. Keep him. Don't trade him; and resign him. Why do people not appreciate Abreu? He's a great bat and clubhouse leader. Did anybody read the article that was posted on here last week and 2016 about Adam Eaton and Frazier, LaRouche and all that drama. A quality clubhouse matters. Guys like Abreu keep that stuff away. Plus he is our best player: an all-star last year and I pointed this out before: MLB.com listed the 100 best players in baseball and Abreu was the only White Sox listed. He is our best player. Why is it that people don't want to start winning sooner rather than later? Here's a crazy idea: you win with good players, not prospects in the minors who may or may not make it to the majors in three or four years. Can we stop all this flipping our good players for prospects BS. Also, don't trade Colome either. He's 9 for 9 in saves. Once again, why would we want to trade that, again, for a prospect who might or might not make it to the majors in two or three years? The Soria trade worked out so well. Medieros is NEVER going to see a minute in the majors; he stinks. Trading Soria cost the Sox at least three wins last year. I know that's only a few more wins, but again, I like it when the Sox win; don't like it when they lose. Losing 97 games last year would have been a ton better than losing 100, losing 100. Now some people say, but Soria was going to be a free agent. Yes, he was. Like we should do with Abreu, the Sox should have then have resigned Soria. Just pay him the money. Would you rather have Soria or Herrera in the bullpen right now?

So every single one of our prospects is going to work out? Also, Rodon, Fulmer, Jones, and Herrera have no future with this club and no trade value.

There is zero question in my head, trade him and if you want to resign him, I am personally sick about him being a great influence to the young guys they are not children.

Poppy - I hate being such a blatant dick, but it’s time we take action and clean up this site given all the trolls, whiners, & straight haters roaming around here. It’s starting to get out of control and the conversation is suffering as a result. By no means should negativity & criticism be banned, but it needs to be far more focused, objective, and relevant to the conversation at hand. If the small group of posters here who are polluting the overall quality of the site are unwilling to change on their own, then maybe the rest of us should be more vocal and actually tell them how we feel about their terrible contributions.

The González / Forbes trade might turn out to be the best deal and that’s the one trade where we traded a single vet for a young, toolsy prospect. Really wish we did more moves like that in hindsight.

Whenever Cease is brought up with Rick Hahn he has always said he won't be brought up until he is ready and performs well enough in the Minors and he deserves to be brought up. He has said numerous times he won't bring up anybody to the White Sox unless he deserves it. It sounds real good but its BS. Perfect example is Zavala being called up. I realize that the team needs another catcher after Castillo getting hurt but still if you look at Zavalas hitting records this season they are appalling. His batting average and OBP are terrible. If anything he should probably be demoted. That being said the team has a starting pitching staff that can't get anybody out and Cease is still in the Minors. Its absolutely insane that Cease is not with the White Sox now. Bums like Banuelos are in the starting rotation and Cease is still in the minors waiting to be called up, I've said this before and I will say this again, its almost as if the White Sox are losing on purpose.

I expected the team so show up.... and it didn't/ Yeah I expected us to get beat.. .maybe not swept.. but not dominated like we were a AA team Id be fired if I performed like this team did for 3 days in a row. I'd be done like Zavala swinging at a fastball down the middle.

I agree. I think next year will happen like 99. They started off bad but some kids came up and played better than they won the division in 2000

We are not as good as the Twins but we will play them much tougher at home. Twins at their home have always been a house of horrors for us.

I never expected Madrigal to hit double digit homers except in his best seasons. I do expect 40+ 2B, 5+3B and 25+ SB, which shouldn't be too much to ask a player with his skillset.

Benetti and Stone aren't lying. Stats don't lie. They are hitting well in the later innings. Moncada, Garcia and Tilson are all speedy players as well besides TA. The team isn't good. Chances are, this rebuild won't succeed how we all want it to. But to b**** about being swept in a road series against the AL's hottest team? Seems outrageous and wasteful

Stone and Benneti have been telling us how good this offense is, but they can't even put the ball in play. And they have been boasting about how well the Sox offense has done in the late innings. Of course, the opposition starter is out, and many times there is a drop off in the bullpen. The White Sox can't come up with the big hit, and only Anderson can put pressure on the opposition defense with base running speed. How many times has the offense registered double-digit strikeouts in a game?

This series should put to bed any more delusional thoughts of the Sox competing this year or next. Moncada is the only guy on the Sox who would start for Minnesota. It is time to hunker down and embrace the tank for a few more years.

The Twins have a very good young core and a good farm system with two guys ranked in the top 15. It's a good time to be a Twins fan. Their major league team is kicking ass and their farm is stacked as well.

Reinsdorf is the worst possible type of owner, from a fan's standpoint. His absolute #1 goal is "return on investment for his shareholders". Nothing else matters. Winning would be nice, but not mandatory. The Sox need an owner like Mark Cuban---a billionaire who would own a team for the sole purpose of winning a championship.

So, only three seasons ago we finished like 18 games ahead of Minnesota. So how is it that three years later we are on this massive rebuild yet the Twins are light years ahead of us. Is it me or does this really point to the ineptitude of the Sox front office.

I blame the Machado thread. Got very toxic by the end. Somewhat understandable, but it hasn't gone away since.

They are blowing his momentum and ruining his confidence by sitting him constantly. Today is a no brainier to start McCann against the division leader.

Going with the ultra bad lack of depth lineup without McCann, Anderson and Garcia. They are 3 of our top 6 position player in fWAR with Anderson 1st and McCann 3rd. Looks like another 5+ run loss.

Don't forget Jonathon Schoop , non tendered and signed for 1 year by the Twins for $7.5M You won't get a high OBP from him but he has been worth 1.3 bWAR this year with 10 HR's . Last year the Twins tried Free agency with mostly pitchers and it backfired, This year they went after more position players Besides Schoop it was Nelson Cruz, Marwin Gonzalez, and also picked up CJ Cron off waivers from Tampa Bay. One of their best pitchers was a Free Agent Martin Perez. One of their best relievers is Blake Parker who they also signed as a FA. Make no doubt the Twins hit a HR this year and that is ultra rare hitting on so many low cost guys. But it isn't so rare to get 1 or 2 that can contribute. The Twins spent less than $50M for all those FA's and waivers on an under 30 yrs old 30 HR guy in CJ Cron and gave him $4.8M for a year. . By the way his father Chris managed in the White Sox minor leagues so you could have thought he should've been on the Sox radar.

Yeah the Sox really need guys like that in the system. They’re devoid of athletes and up the middle players.

Here’s Freddy Garcia’s 2005 game log. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/gl.fcgi?id=garcifr03&t=p&year=2005 By all metrics, Garcia had a great 2005 season - 14-8 record, 3.87 ERA, 4.06 FIP, 1.25 WHIP, 20 quality starts out of 33. You’ll notice that in 7 of his starts, he got absolutely rocked - 5 ER or more. In a five of his of other starts he gave up 4 ER in 6 to 7 innings- pretty mediocre to bad numbers. i suppose my point is that 7 times out of 33, in one of his “good years,” a year in fact that led us to a world title, solidly #2-3 starter, reliable Freddy Garcia went out and got himself rocked. 21% of the time. In another 5 starts, he was meh to bad. That brings the total of bad starts to 36%. Sometimes he was shelled by good teams and sometimes by bad teams. this is kind of why I am more encouraged by Lopez’ 6 good to great starts than discouraged by his 5 bad ones. Yes, I know 6/11 is a lot worse than 70% but the growth is still happening.

I guess the Sox rebuild is screwed then. Twinkies look primed to own the division for next half decade.

Their rebuild has been a bust so far. They haven't won a single playoff game and have been rebuilding since like 2011.
