Look... No one is denying Eloy's raw power and ability. It is special and COULD help him develop into a special player. However, right now he's a corner outfielder with a -0.5 WAR hitting .239 with a sub .300 OBP and .741 OPS. He's had two big days in a row, for crying out loud. Would ya relax? Overall, he's been a slightly below average corner outfielder (who is a circus act defensively) and that's an undisputable fact. You really need to bring this hot take of yours down many notches pertaining to the current potential of the 2019 White Sox. If you think this team is ready for a run with this rotation - I would love to get some of what you are smoking. Not to mention the fact that they are also in the bottom half of the league in nearly every major offensive category. Let's also say that Eloy RIGHT NOW is one of the best hitters in baseball. There's all kinds of fantastic hitters who have spent a LONG time on horrible teams. This isn't like football or basketball where having a LeBron type of superstar or elite QB guarantees you contention. No one here is happy with losing. However, compromising a part of the TRUE window of contention which lays ahead of us beginning just next year? Only to do what? Attempt to win a little over 80 games instead of 75ish? Palka was essentially a nobody who struck it hot in terms of power and nothing else. Tbh he could probably come up to the majors again and crush the ball. The difference is that Jimenez has been touted as a phenom for years and after a slow start he's absolutely pounding the baseball lately, most likely beginning a 6+ year terror on the league. I also don't recall Palka hitting the ball this far. If at any point you watched Palka last year and thought so highly of him that now you consider him a "bust," perhaps your expectations were too high and you found a semi-bright spot in what was a miserable season and assumed he would improve.

Why on earth cherry pick OBP? His SLG is excellent this year - only Moncada is higher on the team. You have a tendency to choose to focus on stats to fit your narrative, rather than letting the stats speak for themselves. I suppose you'd rather he walked 16 more times than homered? Abreu has proven you wrong in literally every year you've posted these threads. Isn't it just possible that you're just... wrong about this guy? If he finishes this season with above an .820 OPS I'd extend him two years, then DFA him in 2021 if the decline does happen then. Bottom line, we need him for next season and anything in the neighborhood of $15 million is fine. I'm not concerned with whether it's a waste of money either - the White Sox saved $300 million from the Machado fiasco, so spending it on a guy who has been productive and loyal part of this organization throughout this awful era is money well spent even if he does decline slightly. Oh, and what we are talking about at this point is still a slight decline. He is on pace for career highs in homers and doubles this year.

At soxfest I asked getz why they can't just pay for catering for the minors and he said it was part of the minor league experience but they were looking into it (i.e. they were not looking into it)

I expect next season to be the Sox version of 2015 Cubs. The first winning season since start of the rebuild. Might be just a bit short of championship caliber but you can see the talent all around. Win total in low to mid 90's would be my today guess. Free agents and trades can of course help move the needle forward. Bring up Robert, Cease & Madrigal...find two decent starting pitchers...and lets roll.

You can be the most hyperbolic poster sometimes. Sox cannot win the division with the current team. They need at least two more decent to good starting pitchers and another bat or two. They are entertaining now, especially the young guys. They have a chance to win the division and more starting next year, but they need to make some moves. A couple smart "selling" trades at the deadline could help the future.

I just peeped Anderson’s defensive metrics and man that dude loves to dig a grave and pull himself out of it. He’s just a hair below average at this point.

Nick’s slash line for the year is now 300/367/410 (OPS 777). With his defense and baserunning, I think that’ll work.

I think we need to make Jose a lifer. I know he isn't worth the money, but he is a great leader and our guys love him to death. He helps players transition to this country and MLB. We put shitty teams around him and he deserves a shot to win a title with us. He gave us chance to sign him and stuck it out, we'd be bogus for letting him go if he agreed to a decent deal.

I've ranted on the topic before: no, no, no, no. Don't get rid of our good players for someone who might be in the majors in two or three years. You win with good players. Can we get off this continual rebuild mode and start to enjoy winning. The window opens next year and goes from there, not five years from now.

It seems that we get one of these threads on here every two or three weeks and they're just stupid. I've said it over and over: Abreu is our best player. All-Star starter last year, only all-star. Only White Sox listed as one of top-100 players in the league at start of season (I admit that this list would probably include a couple more now). The original poster said, "It is no secret that he is on the decline." This is so stupid. Abreu seems well on his way to have career best in home runs and RBIs. How is that on a "decline"? It's ridiculous to make that claim. Yes, his batting average is down, but Steve Stone addressed that saying that he's scarificing batting average for power and RBIs, launch angle and all that. He is tied for the league lead for RBIs and you talk like we should just let him go because he's falling apart? It makes no sense. You act like we'll just bring Collins up and he'll do what "declining" Abreu has been doing. Collins with his .262 average and 9 home runs in AAA? Probably the funniest thing he said was that the Sox will just sign J. D. Martinez next year. Have you been following the White Sox organization at all? I think it's safe to say that we can be more than optimistic about Eloy. We can even be somewhat optimistic about the team as a whole. Yet both have a long way to go. About those who like to vent Iike I do: the team's performance during this decade will make anyone a cynic. The rebuild is doing better than I ever thought it would do. Now it's time to finish the job and that means no more trading for prospects.
