Yes, that's it. I did a 10 year longitudinal research study on karma and it is the cause of most injuries.5 points

I just read the last few pages, and while that was clearly a mistake in hindsight, here we are. This is the correct take. It’s not about last season, it’s about being a White Sox fan holistically right now. From the end of 2022 to now, my interest level in the team has been at all-time lows, and by a huge margin. I’ve come to the realization the thing I’m mad at the most is the idea that incompetence by others has robbed me of a lot of personal enjoyment in my life. I like caring about my favorite baseball team. I like being able to throw on a game on a random weeknight and having something entertaining to watch. I like day dreaming about “what could be” and penciling in projected lineups two years down the road, or the adrenaline hit you get when your team makes that big trade or signing. We’ve been robbed off all of that for the last three years basically, and it’s not like the Sox had this long run of success before that. The way I look at it, from an ownership perspective, it can’t get worse. It could stay the same, and that would suck, but the bar is so incredibly low, I just can’t fathom how it could truly be “worse” than this5 points

You know we have hit rock bottom when people are mourning the loss of Andrew Benintendi.3 points

I would have maybe advised him to not compare himself to a slave in year 1.3 points

Imagine thinking of buying a team and browsing their fan pages and seeing a post about spending your money 😂3 points

It’s amazing that Getz acknowledged that having some OF depth in the upper minors would prove valuable given our general lack of talent outside of Robert and yet missed horribly on the evaluations of Fletcher & DeLoach. Honestly, I’d prefer rotating some of the infielders through LF while Andrew is out vs. giving Fletcher the job. I’d also throw a claim at Canairo when the Mets ultimately try to sneak him through waivers.2 points

Yeah, figuring out how to add him to 26-man would have sorted itself out quickly.2 points

If only we didn't have too much talent to add Canario2 points

That's true. The ownership causes injuries. Went right up and kicked him.2 points

That's right JR paid the guardians pitcher to hit him. I know you hate JR for what he did to you but this is over the top.2 points

I wonder if Vargas' walk rate will come down if he continues to show no real power. Like Madrigal, if the pitcher thinks he can knock the bat out of your hand, you're not going to get worked around very often you'll just get attacked mercilessly.2 points

Wait wait wait wait whoa now, I don’t want to actually do the work MYSELF but if anyone else wants to detail everything I want to know, please do it thx2 points

I'm trying to get into the year. Last year, you may remember that we had very few offensive players who could hit the average mark of wRC+ or OPS+ (100). This was the list: ok that was for qualified players, but you get the idea. I don't think that will happen again. This is Zips, who takes mercy: Of players who I think we could be pleasantly surprised by, I'd put it on a first baseman guy. A weird bobby dalbec resurgence or the people get what they want and Tim Elko has 50 hrs and 500 Ks. Of players who I hope could actually get to league average, it's Brooks Baldwin. WOuld be really helpful. If Vargas can get to .430 slugging though that would be a big help.1 point

The guys I think have the best chance of reaching or exceeding a 100 wRC+ this year are Vargas, Baldwin, Meidroth, & Sosa. My personal money would be on Vargas & Baldwin. By no means am I excited about Vargas, but his ability to draw walks at an elite level should hopefully get him close to 100. From there, it comes down to being impact the baseball more consistently, which I need to see before I believe. As for Baldwin, he’s just a well rounded hitter who does everything well. As much as I Stan for Meidroth, I am the highest on Baldwin of all prospects in this tier. I think he can be a 2+ win player as soon as next year and I could see him ending up around a 100 to 105 wRC+ if he adjusts a bit faster than expected.1 point

It will probably end up being more than you would assume. Last year was uniquely bad from an expected outcome standpoint. But with the exception of SS/C (on opening day) I would expect the guys out there getting playing time will likely have an OPS+ over 100. If they don't the Sox will just give that playing time to someone else. Thus it's likely we get 100 OPS/WRC+ output out of 2B/3B simply because we have enough options that one of them is likely to be average and we're probably going to platoon a lot of guys to minimize their poor split impacts on their overall output.1 point

Yeah, I think the biggest increase was 35 wins. Winning 36 more games would put the Sox at 77 wins. Holy hell that's depressing. We'd be ecstatic, and Venable would be in the running for manager of the year...and the team would be 10+ wins away from sniffing the post season.1 point

The White Sox could set a record for the most wins gained from one season to the next, and still not finish .500.1 point

Tristan Gray was the 2B. I know it wasn't Hackenberg's fault, but I believe he took the error on the play. It felt like the scene in Vacation where the camera pans the car trip, back seat, everyone's asleep, front seat, passenger, then Chevy Chase zonked out like a light.1 point

Hackenberg didn’t mess up there. You’re supposed to throw the ball to 2B. That’s on Gonzalez (or whoever was at 2B if a righty was up, can’t remember).1 point

Without any qualifications, and even with near zero experience, Hagen Smith and Dutch Schultz are the White Sox two best pitchers today.1 point

Yeah, they kinda don’t need both Slater and Taylor. I guess you can DH Benintendi against lefties and play Slater in LF (depending on how the rest of the team looks). I know the platoon is in RF to start but that can change.1 point
-
Looking at Benintendi, his splits also seem to be pretty much historically neutral. I sure hope Fuller sees something magical in Austin Slater to unlock.1 point
-
His splits are pretty close to even. He doesn’t really need to be in a platoon. Or I should at least say he’s not bad against lefties.1 point

I've often said that in real life we would be looking around at who hangs together with a wtf reaction. People are so different on message boards, especially arguing about niche subjects.1 point

I think the concept of “it could get worse” being discussed here is talking about two different things 1. The record. yes, the White Sox could lose more games. Yes, this is technically worse. They lose 122 or more and this is definitely a worse record. No doubt 2. How we all feel about the last 3 years and our current feelings going forward into this season. It is really hard for me to feel worse about the above. Right now the Sox are locked into being bad for the foreseeable future and it’s a long trip out of this hole. it is splitting hairs, though. This has been a brutal stretch, and seeing the faintest light at the end of the tunnel(Should Ishbia make the move) shouldn’t engender a warning to everyone that it could get worse.1 point

One issue is will 'big name' FAs want to join the White Sox 'project', recently there has been a suggestion that the White Sox are so dysfunctional that 'big name' FAs would not sign. Even if the Jerry regime is cleared out by 2025/26 it maybe be too soon for players to risk signing on long contracts not knowing if things have improved yet. Obviously a lot will depend on who the GM and manager are. I find it most unlikely that the Ishbia brothers would give hundreds of millions to Getz to spend. Venable may be the man to stay as manager, a lot will depend on how he manages this season, not so much results but how the team and younger players develop.1 point

No one at 35th & Shields has any sort of grasp on how much excitement would be injected into the veins of Sox fans with the news Jerry won't be owning the team anymore. It will be a glorious day, whenever that comes.1 point
