Agreed. But I also don’t understand owning a baseball team - the coolest thing in the world - and just treating it as joylessly as JR has. I’m on egg shells until we can really hear of a transition plan.6 points

I think this very well could be it. Let's face it, the team is facing 2 more years of ugly, which will be followed by a very ugly 2027 (lockout is pretty much unavoidable). The timing makes sense for the handoff to occur late in 2027, once the financial structure of the game has changed, and then they probably break ground on a new ballpark very shortly after to be ready to open 2030.4 points

I laugh at the notion that any major business transaction would be done in the open. It’s legitimately nonsenscial.3 points

It's one of those essentially unknown rules called The Tray Rule. Thou shalt negotiate the sale of my favorite baseball team in public.3 points

If what we think is going on is going on...this isn't swapping baseball trading cards! Not happening by writing it out on a cocktail napkin. These things get done when they get done...and they aren't going to announce it until it gets done (if it is even happening). Billions of dollars involved here...it isn't a handshake and a wink. Confusion for the fans...who cares? I am one of them and I enjoy this story...but it isn't changing anything about how I go about my day. I hope Ishbia buys the White Sox...but I am not expecting it to be today or next week...3 points

I still can't understand owning (I'm assuming) the vast majority of the team, and letting some old asshole who refuses to spend money actually run it all. There has to be more at play here.3 points

Are you under the incorrect assumption that this isn't exactly how it happens in everyday life? Companies are sold/bought out/usurped all of the time, without even the C level folks having full insight at times. Any company dumb enough to inform its employees that they are trying to sell to someone else, deserves the failure they are about to encounter.2 points

Personal attacks? You continue to say wild stuff on a message board and then expect a free pass. Billion dollar transactions don’t happen in the open and to suggest otherwise is either blatant trolling or a level of ignorance that’s beyond comprehension. Ishbia & Jerry don’t owe us s%*# and they aren’t going to risk their massive deal falling through to keep you up-to-speed.2 points

I think we can see where this is headed. Getz better keep acquiring and drafting SS and 3B.2 points

If Ishbia agrees to a transition structure, he won't be "letting" him run it. While Jerry might maintain "control", Ishbia will almost certainly be the one calling the shots. Again, I liked the idea that he let's Jerry be the face of the two ugly public fights that remain over a stadium and the CBA, and then once the PR hits are over, he bows out publicly, but until that time, they are working together behind the scenes to do whatever the Sox do as an organization.2 points
-
All you are doing is begging someone anyone to give you some sort of tax based reason to be against this because everything else you have warned us all about has fallen flat. Keep flingin that s%*# though, it’s bound to stick one of these days. I’m sure this ill intent wielding billionaire has nothing but dastardly dreadful skeletons in his closet and when we dig them up WOOOOOOOO BOY WILL TRAY ANNOUNCE HE TOLD US SO2 points
-
I have no idea why his ownership stake would have any bearing on him being on the hook for a large capital gains hit. If he sells before he dies without the proper deal structure, he will 100% end up taking a big hit that can otherwise be avoided.2 points

No he doesn't need to feel pressure. They are in full rebuilding mode while he brings the entire organization into the 21st century instead of the 19th. He took over an awful organization. The owner won't spend on big free agents so they need to build the organization. That was the problem with the last group. The had top end prospects who produced for a couple of years but there was no depth behind them when it fell apart. And you are way off in your prospect evaluations.1 point

#1 Take your own advice. If you don't want attacks, stop attacking people. It's pretty freaking easy for most people. #2 What if I told People can care about what is going to happen, AND can understand that multiBillion dollar deals do have some level of privacy to get them done. It's not even complex for anyone with even a Business 101 understanding of the corporate world. #3 The next you add something productive and not either an attack or ridiculous conspiracy to this discussion it will be the first time.1 point

I think it’s actually called a “just plain bad” period and it will last Shuster’s entire career. Definitely the very definition of an “innings eater”.1 point

But this can happen to any random office worker at any time as well. Mergers and acquisitions by larger companies causing the loss of jobs. This isn’t some crazy unique situation.1 point

Amaya is a perfect two week placeholder if you want to buy a year of control with Meidroth before adding him to the 40 man. I’m not even convinced they will play the service time manipulation game with Meidroth, but that’s how you’d do it.1 point

Yeah, I will guess he makes it. I hope Gallo would show something but man is he beyond terrible.1 point

He's also not on the 40-man I feel like Drury is making a case to make the team. Edit 2: also, a good possibility a lefty is on the mound (which is why Fathom has Sosa at 2B.1 point

I think it’s more likely because they’re only going to keep one of the veteran types, and they want to figure out which. I don’t think it’s a reflection of a desire to get them all prepared for OD. But then again, White Sox, who knows.1 point

In shocking news, Martin Maldonado still doesn't have a hit yet this spring lol.1 point

Looks like Sox catchers are the only position that's hitting good in their small sample sizes. Narvaez with 2 hits today. Thaiss , Lee, Hackenberg, Quero and Teel might be around a .300 BA as a group.1 point

Just play Maton in spring...or Gray. This lineup today is hopeless. Bad enough to make Andre Lipcius at bats almost compelling. No walks for SFG pitching stands out.1 point

Don't confuse this deal not happening with it not being announced. There are a lot of behind the scenes things that happen in multi-billion dollar things, like I have tried to explain to you multiple times.1 point
-
Yes, that would work plus JR's relinquishment of his chairmanship to the majority owner. No problem with Cap Gains or anything else for JR. I just wanted to know why this deal hasn't happened yet and why all the secrecy? As I said previously, the uncertainty does not help the team and is creating some unnecessary confusion for fans. Finalize this one way or another before the Opener.1 point

Even that 20% is subject to capital gains.... and massively at that. Assuming he's had 20% since 1980 (which i believe is not the case), at a sale price of $20MM, that's $4M in cost basis. If the team is valued at $2B now, that gives him about a $200M stake in the team... that's capital gains tax on $196M of gains.1 point

Why did the Reinsdorfs (plural) approach Ishbia when he was supposedly so far down the road with the Twins? Did they know something or did they want something?1 point
-
Please, I’ve listened to around the clubhouse a bunch. I just internalized JR loving baseball the way Kathy bates loved James caan in misery. And uh…what she loved from James caan was his ability to keep labor costs low I guess. It’s a good analogy. Sledgehammer scene1 point

🤣🤣🤣 This is the most insane thing I have ever seen posted at this board. Next time just type out “I hate private equity companies and can’t be rationale ok the subject” instead of typing out a bunch of nonsense.1 point
-
Perhaps a tax accountant can explain the potential capital gains ramifications of a sale prior to death for JR. For example, if Jerry maintains up to 49.9% of shares (a non-controlling share of the corporation) after a sale, wouldn't that minimize the potential capital gains issue for him ? We know he doesn't own 100%. Like a few others, I am wondering why this deal isn't being done now. Then there is this. Ishbias have a combined wealth that is insane...somewhere North of 10 Million dollars. Justin purchased a minority share a few years ago. What is he waiting for since then...is it that he is waiting for the value of the franchise to continue to go down as the WSox continue to struggle in order to "buy low"? If Reinsdorfs came to him, as the above post indicates, what is stopping Ishbia and his billions from getting this done now ? Also, why all the secrecy? Ishbia wants to buy it and he has more than enough money. Finally, it seems like uncertainty injected by this saga is not helping the organization and is only confusing fans.1 point
-
These external guys are definitely projects too, but they have no history with the Sox. Whatever the Sox have done in the development process with Colas (and to a lesser extent, Fletcher) clearly hasn’t paid dividends. Perhaps getting new faces in here with no affiliation to the organization could benefit from a change of scenery. It’s just throwing darts at the board essentially.1 point
-
Absolutely not. Only make a deal with the Dodgers if they significantly overpay.1 point

I think it looks bad to other owners to potentially poach their buyer. I also don't think Jerry ever has to be closer to selling to give up control. I still find it hard to believe that ishbia wants to own 40-50+% of something while someone else tanks it into the ground. I always thought it would likely take a year or two, so I'll be optimistic and say one year.1 point
