Drew Thorpe is fine and pitching. Blake Larson, Berroa, Bush and Carela all having TJS. Pitchers break. They need a lot of them.3 points

In a way, I would rather have these guys have this surgery now before they are any good then when we are counting on them. Hopefully, they come back better than before, like the $6 million man.2 points
-
Not for Carela. They just optioned him to AA. He won't open up a spot.; have to be on MLB IL.2 points
-
Last year would not matter once you are added to the 40-man. However, the note earlier did say he was optioned today so maybe it's minor league IL (which I guess probably wouldn't up a spot on the 40-man).2 points

At this point does the extra year of team control thing even matter? There are so many circumstances that can happen in between that timeframe that make the reality of that rule not really matter. Look at how worried everyone was about that during the last rebuild and how much of it didn't matter. IMO just call the guy up when he's ready. If he's ready on OD, don't dick around with him for 2-3 weeks, have him start. Give the kid some positive affirmation that the club trusts him.2 points

I don't believe so. He was added to the 40 man last November but has never been on the active roster. They'll burn an option but no MLB service time.1 point

I'm not on Summerhill either. He was a terrible makeup guy in HS. I heard he's matured during his time at AZ but I still can't do it.1 point

Fangraphs indicates Berroa has one more option which won't be used this year if he gets put on the 60-day IL. I would imagine they do that with either Berroa, Carella, or both to avoid playing the season with 38 active players on the 40-man.1 point

It’s true. Rowand likes sloppy choreography wrestling with no emotion. 😜😂1 point

Yeah that’s fine. I do too. I’m just saying at the end of spring training when you’re making decisions, give Baldwin the opportunity since he called up last year and is on 40-man and then call up Meidroth later for Amaya’s spot. Meidroth needs a 40-man spot so might as well kick that can down the road a few weeks later.1 point

Could be. The issue is why did the muscle strain happen. Was is an overuse injury just due to the muscle work. Or was it being overused due to the ligament laxity and it was trying to hold the joint together. Either way it's a muscle strain but different etiologies.1 point

Doesn't matter the actual velocity. It's if you are throwing at your max too often. One person throwing 97 maybe be throwing with less effort than someone else throwing 95.1 point

Agreed. Still sucks obviously, but this season was always going to be a wash anyway.1 point

So we went and pretty much lost an entire rotations worth of pitchers in the last month.1 point
-
Agreed. Plus, Baldwin is on the 40-man. I know they opened up 2 spots (depending on how it goes with Carela maybe one) but one spot is likely going to Drury.1 point

If they think the stuff can play up as a starter, I’d much rather see Smith get those opportunities while Thorpe is out. Last time he pitched though I don’t think he went very long did he? As for Baldwin, I still have him on the OD roster, but the amount of playing time Meidroth is getting overall and at SS specifically makes me feel like he’s the guy who gets the nod at SS now. I love Baldwin too and would prefer him to get the first crack since his clock has already started, but not what I think they will do.1 point

Definitely. I have done this as well. Another problem is when some Smart TV’s don’t have a good library of the latest apps. May need to purchase an external streaming device like an Onn 4K Pro box from Walmart or an Amazon Firestick.1 point

Those flash storms in spring of AZ are no joke. Camelback has a paved lot, some other stadiums are mostly dirt and I def have a not so fond memory of getting into a rental car in a sloppy ass parking lot on a spring training trip.1 point

I agree with this where C. Monty, Quero, Teel and Mason Adams are concerned. I just feel that Meidroth will be a nice utility guy who can start for a month, and the extra control isn't really an issue. Somebody like Teel could pick up Scott Boras as his agent, and he's gone after 6 years of control. Meidroth is like, if you want him, he's there.1 point

Hackenberg had more HR is six cactus league PA than he had all of last season1 point

There is no guarantee it will matter, but I can’t really get behind potentially sacrificing 160 games of a player down the road for 20 games right now. That is even more the case when we will likely lose 110 games this year and are multiple years away from competing. I also don’t think there is any draft compensation upside by having him on the OD roster since he’s not a top 100 prospect. IMO, there really isn’t much upside from it beyond a little short-term positive affirmation.1 point

The Angels have 3 projected for rotation, along with Kyle Hendricks. I feel like it'll be Kikuchi or Tyler Anderson.1 point
-
I will be very bummed if we don’t wait two or three weeks to call up Meidroth and throw away a year of team control. Obviously it’s far less egregious of a decision than rushing a less ready, higher ceiling player in Montgomery but it would be super easy just roll with Amaya for a couple weeks before swapping him out for Chase.1 point

I'm not huge fans of this kind of analysis. 2/5 of those elite teams taking a RB is actually better than I thought, and notice Bills took James Cook in round 2, AJ Dillon was a 2nd round back. You are also anti 2nd round. Bears haven't taken a RB in first two round since Forte, I think? And bears have been garbage the last decade. Maybe we should.1 point

Yep...the golden age for owners...not so much for fans.1 point

On Jan 29, 1981 the day that the Sox sale closed, the Dow closed the day at 948.89. It closed yesterday at 42579. That means the Dow has gone by up about 44.9X. The same math for the Sox returns 105.3X. (19m vs 2b)1 point

Don't know how many times this needs to be said but the evaluation is for non-controlling shares at 1.8 billion. The value for Jerry's controlling shares certainly exceeds that. The franchise valuation likely has not decreased at all and has probably increased off that 2 billion evaluation.1 point

Are you under the incorrect assumption that this isn't exactly how it happens in everyday life? Companies are sold/bought out/usurped all of the time, without even the C level folks having full insight at times. Any company dumb enough to inform its employees that they are trying to sell to someone else, deserves the failure they are about to encounter.1 point

#1 Take your own advice. If you don't want attacks, stop attacking people. It's pretty freaking easy for most people. #2 What if I told People can care about what is going to happen, AND can understand that multiBillion dollar deals do have some level of privacy to get them done. It's not even complex for anyone with even a Business 101 understanding of the corporate world. #3 The next you add something productive and not either an attack or ridiculous conspiracy to this discussion it will be the first time.1 point

Personal attacks? You continue to say wild stuff on a message board and then expect a free pass. Billion dollar transactions don’t happen in the open and to suggest otherwise is either blatant trolling or a level of ignorance that’s beyond comprehension. Ishbia & Jerry don’t owe us s%*# and they aren’t going to risk their massive deal falling through to keep you up-to-speed.1 point

I don’t have the app but I was under the impression it was becoming more widely available for a direct stream experience Fubo has a trial offer but you may want to wait until the season gets close instead of wasting your trial in ST games https://www.fubo.tv/welcome/channel/44911/chicago-sports-network1 point

Agreed. But I also don’t understand owning a baseball team - the coolest thing in the world - and just treating it as joylessly as JR has. I’m on egg shells until we can really hear of a transition plan.1 point
-
I still can't understand owning (I'm assuming) the vast majority of the team, and letting some old asshole who refuses to spend money actually run it all. There has to be more at play here.1 point

I want the best available player of course, but at some point I think they will face diminishing returns if they keep drafting pitchers in the first round. They desperately need bats. Unless they draft pitchers, develop them, and then trade them for more proven bats.1 point

Thorpe has no structural damage currently. Tommy John right now would be a very surprising outcome.1 point
