If you're going to keep running AV out there, at least move him down to the bottom third of the lineup. On the bright side, Robert showing some signs of life and Vargas looking like a legit big leaguer since the mechanical changes to his swing.4 points

Wilson has been a pleasant surprise.4 points

The case of Tim Elko is odd in that he seems to have made enough noise in the minors to be noticed and the person blocking him is living on aluminum bat days from the last decade. They are clutching their Andrew Vaughn pearls going back to making him a LF and RF because they had to have his bat in the lineup every day. A bat that was never close to covering up the weaknesses of being short and very non-athletic. He is the poster child of the epic failure of this franchise, Hahn and Getz. What harm is it to flip he and Elko just to see what may happen. This organization hasn't changed at all they rush certain players inexplicably but also sign shitty vets to block some youth. Why in holy hell are Amaya and Palacios part of this organization same with janakowski, maton, etc Good they are awful at their job.4 points

Vargas in the midst of a 12-26 stretch. Only 2 Ks in that time vs. 3 walks.3 points

Steven fucking Wilson. I didn’t want to give up on him with the few years of control and randomness of relievers.3 points

They really bend over backwards to play the literal worst player in MLB to this point. "get him off his feet"? How about you just GET HIM OFF THE TEAM.3 points

Why is Dalbec even here if they ain't gonna play him3 points

Wrigley is very accessible via public transportation, and there are countless bars and restaurants around the park that are packed before and after games. I went to PNC park last summer, and it's another park in downtown that has easy access via light rail (which added stops when the park was built). And there are plenty of places to grab food and drink before and after games. The Sox can have the same thing with a downtown ballpark. The park would attract businesses and create more jobs. Let's hope the Ishbias bring us a new park.3 points

Most successful organizations have the structure and tools in place at each level to work on failings like this. You'll notice other teams aren't sending AAA top prospects to Arizona. This, if anything, is another large black eye on the developmental skills and tenure of Chris Getz.3 points

More of a celebration of the recognition that he's broken. Admitting that something is wrong is better than living in denial.3 points

yikes. you know people think this exclusively because it's on the south side of chicago, right, and the dummies think they'll die or whatever if they walk around on a street with a number in the name. strange to see you write this. it isn't a bad location, it's the perfect location for a ballpark. very easily accessible for the entire region regardless of your mode of transportation (I typically walk). the surrounding neighborhood is a 'safe' one, albeit a little bit boring if you're a drunken baseball fan. I generally dislike the parking lots, but you'd find that the residents of the area prefer it. Not everyone wants their neighborhood to be infested by drunk frat boys the way Lakeview is. who "rates" it as bad? racists? it's a great ballpark to watch a game, I've been to a bunch of them, there isn't a bad seat in the house and the tickets are cheap to boot. way better experience at SoxPark than Wrigley for 1000 reasons. what would be "bad and dumb" is if the city and state supported a move that completely contradicted their previous financial investments in the south and west sides of chicago in order to move a major south side employer to the loop. one might call it hypocritical and anti-democratic; and I imagine taxpayers wouldn't be too happy about about their taxes funding projects that undermine things their tax dollars funded less than a decade previous. one might call it stupid governance. the related site is a fucking boondoggle anyway and will be harder to get to and will waste even more of your tax dollars on an entertainment facility. I can't believe people entertain that terrible idea to begin with (including the unelected bridgeport alderman), turn the site into a park and be done with it.3 points

I've watched probably like 1K baseball games at least halfway at this point, maybe even 2k. Hawk is 100% accurate when he said 30 years ago your bullpen is only as good as your offense. And Bill James was right 40 years ago when he said 1 run games are basically crap shoots. Good teams score runs in bunches when the starter has nothing and pad the lead so the least talented pitchers on the roster can't even think about blowing it most nights. That's just how it goes. I get what you're reacting to, it's just really not the root issue. The root issue is the offense once again is one of the worst in MLB history.2 points

These situations suck. I've had to do CPR on fans and a couple of falls. It's that one's you don't expect that you feel and remember the most. Hope for the best.2 points

Interesting listening to the baseball america podcast. They identified that his issue is almost exclusively swing decisions. How it's gotten real bad year over years His ev, launch angles and others have improved. Their suggestion was that is fixable but he would probably need a drastic measure like going to Arizona to get out of game and work on getting the decision making back.2 points

anyone know if miguel made any swing changes2 points

Do you think Jerry is paying attention to any of this? You will get another letter at the end of the year and nothing will change.2 points

Wow Vaughn dude lol. Cmon man this is crazy. Give Elko a shot. If he sucks it's someone new that sucks and then we know. I so tired of seeing Vaughn roll over or K on a 90 mph Fastball2 points

Nah, the White Sox way is to play the bums every day and bat cleanup for a week straight before we release them.2 points

Hmm, draft a player who goes on to get worse every year after showing talent, success and tools at lower levels.2 points

Ahhh, got it. Ruin the player so he's so bad he can get custom one on one help. Brilliant thinking, not sure why i didn't think of that.2 points

Yes, the Diamondbacks did that with Geraldo Perdomo. https://soxmachine.com/2025/04/pregame-notes-colson-goes-west2 points

It would help their reputation a bit if someone once every 10 years or so, comes out of their system looking like they know how to hit.2 points

Colson lived his entire life as the great hype. Dude was known statewide in three sports and was being followed in three different sports fanbases, including basketball in Indiana, as a target of IU. Pretty sure the spotlight didn't bug him.2 points

Part of the problem is that these young kids are anointed as saviors for this organization way before they're ready. It can absolutely mess with the head of a young kid just trying to put it all together when everyone looks at them to solve the organizations massive problems. This of course comes from the fact that the team refuses to bring in actual, proven major league players, so the only thing fans have to lean on is prospects. Bringing them to "soxfest" and already pretending they are future household names is a horrible idea. It might not effect all, but I believe it absolutely has played a role in Colson's struggles.2 points

I' m not saying he was an inevitable failure or that he wasnt a talented athlete but I would think a first round draft pick would have put up better numbers in high school. Plenty of QBs and basketball players couldn't hit high level pitching so not sure how that's relevant2 points
-
Colson was a raw three sport athlete who could have gotten a D1 offer in three sports, with the expectations he could blow up in any of the three. He set school records as a QB, SG, and SS in a pretty decent school. He was a universally thought of 1st round draft pick in MLB. It is revisionist history to pretend he was an inevitable failure because of his HS batting average.,2 points

A downtown ballpark is infinitely more accessible by ALL transportation lines. This location is dead. Nothing happens here. You options are come and leave. There is no experience. There is no excitement after a game. It is get and your car and leave, because you can't stay here. There is no making a day of it. You speak of employment, but it would be way better for "employment " to have more jobs connected to the Sox, right? So how about a ballpark complex which could add thousands of jobs? We are talking about a few extra train stops (or walking for someone who digs it)for anyone who lives in the area AND they don't have to put up with the negative externalities that you tell me the hate so much. Win-Win! More jobs, less traffic and drunks! So much more walkability yeah! I am impressed you managed to call all of the neutral ballpark reviewers who routinely and consistently rate this park as one of the absolute worst in baseball, racists. I don't think you have been to many other ballparks if that is your first thought. Besides if the residents are that bothered by the fans, there is one really obvious fix. It is reviewed as generic, large scale, and completely lacks and personality on pretty much every list that exists. Because of it, we see near zero baseball tourism like other major markets see, and no attendance boost from the daily experience. Sox fans go when the team is good, and that's it. That's not me, that's it's national reputation. If you are content with that because it keeps tickets cheap, cool. I would like more out of this franchise and fixing the biggest mistakes of this ballpark would be a step in the right direction.2 points
