You can't have preconceived notions though. What if he actually adjusts to MLB and does well ? He's the type of guy you love as a GM . Look how far he has risen above expectations already. Fans love an underdog. Mark Buerhle was beloved. Fans loved Palka and Yermin Mercedes and Carlos Quentin. Producing from humble beginnings is what Murica is all about.3 points

I will always hate Carlos Quentin for breaking his hand punching his bat and ruining what I thought could be a good run in the 2008 playoffs. Freaking idiot.3 points

It is a weird headline because Duber never really provides evidence in his article about how he knows fans want Elko called up. He could have said “White Sox fans on Twitter” or “White Sox message boards”. I bet most average Sox fans don’t even know who Elko is.2 points

That's a winning streak. It has been done before. Well pitched and well hit game. Some small stuff to clean up on the way to 95 wins no doubt.1 point

Truly baffled by this exchange. Seems clear to me that "moving towards Chicago" is shorthand, as it generally is in baseball discussions. for making necessary progress to reach the majors. A swing-happy prospect getting their K% down is movement towards Chicago. A rehabbing pitcher hitting their targets for getting stretched out is moving towards Chicago. Colson heating up in AAA after potential swing fixes would be moving towards Chicago. No one said anything about him coming straight from AZ (or being traded??) and honestly it feels like you have to work hard to try and interpret it that way.1 point

XWOBA up to 344. 63rd percentile. Launch Angle up 5% compared to career average as well. A lot to like about the profile right now.1 point

This is for WestEddy...proof someone is helping Elko WITH the Sox lol. "Hitting director Ryan Fuller said Elko was primarily tasked with curbing his chasing this offseason, but with the notion that narrowing his focus would benefit his in-zone contact rates as well. He was an avid adopter of the White Sox' new Trajekt machine in spring training, and has maintained a steady routine of slightly less fancy pitching machine work in Charlotte. "He's an intelligent kid and does his homework," said Knights manager Sergio Santos. "He's in there with [Charlotte hitting coach] Jim Rickon and what they kind of do is challenge themselves. They'll have the machine and Jim will mess with the dials and [Elko] will have to make that decision whether to swing or not, and it's definitely helped."1 point

"Shredding against International League pitching in possibly the country's most hitter-friendly ballpark at an advanced age is very far from a 1-to-1 comparison to major league production. But even if this is simply the minor league heater of a lifetime, since Elko is still rocking a 28 percent strikeout rate that threatens to elevate upon promotion, it comes alongside meaningful swing decision improvement that has made the Ole Miss legend's well-known contact issues less disqualifying. "He's putting together all-around quality at-bats," Chris Getz said. "He's always hit the ball hard. He's actually increased how hard he's hitting it, and most importantly, how often he's doing it. He's certainly leading the organization in home runs, and I think he's at the top in minor-league baseball." They had a stretch in May when they went 8-4 last year, of which the last two games were shutout wins1 point

4-4 record in the last 8 games might be the best stretch of baseball by the White Sox in the last 2 years....a bit sad but probably true.1 point

Great team game Contributions from up and down the lineup and the pitching staff. Quero my goodness you're almost as hot as Elko !1 point

we're sorta rampaging. it's fun, i told someone tonight talking mlb at least we are awful but fun awful. sorta like those teams in the before 2005 era that would score 800 and give up 900. Just a different era but same feeling. Much better than last year if nothing else. A long ass way to being anything but bad.1 point

Andrew has worked hard each year to lower his game a little bit more and become the poster boy for worst player on worst team ever. Sox still have to match the Cleveland Spiders loss record pre-modern era.1 point

It would take a GM as incompetent as Chris Getz to trade *for* Andrew Vaughn. Poor defensive 1B who have never cracked an .800 OPS and are trending downward for the second consecutive season are in such high demand afterall.1 point

Prediction, and not even bold… All these posters claiming Vargas has figured it, won’t be around when he’s putting up a sub .600 OPS in a few months. This s%*# is embarrassing.1 point

Exactly. The best that can be said about the current park is that die hard Sox fans think it's fine and doesn't suck. There's a reason why it's consistently ranked near the bottom of stadium rankings. The design became outdated about a year after it opened. They did an admirable job in the early 2000s to improve the character of the park, but it's never going to be seen as anything but generic and forgettable to people outside the core fan based. And the economics of drawing people to the ballpark have indeed changed in recent years. Ballparks in entertainment deserts just aren't going to draw big crowds for most teams. That's why you see so many MLB parks adding entertainment districts if they aren't already located near other things to do.1 point
