The Sox are bad enough where they should reward guys for performing. Probably he falls flat on his face in the Major Leagues. So what? He earned a shot. Give it to him. I was a big Andrew Vaughn fan, but he is what he is. How much more do we have to see?4 points

They just don’t hit for enough power. In games where you don’t have a lot of base runners, it makes it so much harder to score. Finding slugging is so important in future draft picks and acquisitions.2 points

I was at the games over the weekend and at the team stores and Grandstand. They were crowded with fans looking at the new City Connect apparel. From what I saw people were 't buying alot of the new stuff. The new jerseys are nice but it looks too much like a Bulls jersey. I also think the previous City Connect jerseys are better looking than the new ones. I would think that most fans would rather have old ones instead of the new ones. I'm guessing that the new numerous City Connect hats will be more popular than the new jerseys. I don't know if they release the merchandise sale results but I don't think the new City Connect items will be as popular as the old ones.2 points

Interesting. I'm seeing a Sox sweep x2. They sweep the Royals, and the hearts of this nation.2 points

One data point: highest EV of his career was 115.1 mph and came in his rookie year. I mean just looking at Vaughn he's never put the work in on his body needed. He's the same 5-10 175 he was as a rookie. Vargus put the time in and look how thick he is now, Vaughn not so much.2 points

He "chases" a lot but he doesn't really strike out either. Right around league average at 23%. Meanwhile we've watched him tee up a bunch of pitches outside the zone for rbi's. he's shown some pretty good contact skills this season compared to last even if the numbers don't really show it. I guess that's the usefulness of 'xwoba' but I don't really know how they come up with that. my question is where is his power? I don't think you worry too much about his bb/chase rates but instead hope he profiles sort of like Javy Baez and homers more than he walks. .260/.300/.450 with 20 home runs feels like something you could see out of Sosa. I think the interesting thing about WAR is how much more "highly" rated Sosa is compared to Baldwin. Both have looked pretty good to my eye but Brooks gets dinged because he plays every position, just not at a particularly high level. You still probably prefer Baldwin's defensive skillset to Sosa's. defensive WAR seems pretty arbitrary.2 points

It's a problem but he also has one of the best contact rates in MLB so it's not like he's a terrible profile overall. Even with his league worst chase rate he's got a league average xwOBA. I don't think there is any "right" way to find value in MLB, there are a lot of wrong ways but at the end of the day there are dozens of ways to provide value and if he's "just" a 270/290/380 hitter well he's just a utility guy, but if he can improve, and he's 25 so there's some time, he's a decent regular.2 points

Great move. I know from speaking with her over the past few years she and Brooks didn't see eye to eye. Maybe they patched things up.2 points

I find it hilarious were into May and mother nature has more saves (2) than the White Sox (1). Hell even the Rockies have 5 saves.2 points

It will get worse with Robert gone. No one to play a decent CF or stolen bases. But hey they have Vaughn1 point

The sad thing is that this team is better than last year’s but it is still only on pace for a 5 win improvement.1 point

More base running blunders...can't afford that when they can barely get guys on.1 point

How can they manage to add Smith, Vasil, Booser, etc., and they can't find ONE single position player in the same manner?1 point

Om not agreeing either way. Vaughn hasn't shown anything special. Elko ks too much too be good. I'm just trying ot figure put why the Sox don't like him and that's all I can come up with. Vargas at first and Rojas at 3rd unless Ramos starts hitting is probably the best right now. Edit: I think what I agree with is that Elko won't have much of a chance for success. However ivwpild give him a chance over Vaughn, if those are the only choices.1 point

Bought one of the hats when I was there this weekend. I agree that it doesn't replace the old one but a nice variant to have.1 point

From what I was told by an individual involved in setting the date for Nancy's retirement, several dates were suggested and it was finally agreed to the date in September if I remember right. To be fair to JR, the date happened to be during one of the Jewish high holy holidays and he wasn't able to attend. Some were saying that was deliberate so that he wouldn't have to hear it from the crowd. All I can tell you is Nancy was hurt by the fact that they didn't attend. I heard from Nancy this morning and she is really excited to be able to play again for Sox fans at home. Don't know the dates or how many times she'll play, she does live in the area in the spring and summer and goes to Arizona in the late fall and winter.1 point

I’m certainly saying he was a questionable pick with the benefit of hindsight, but he was a smallish, right handed 1B-only type at the time with minimal physical projection left. His plate discipline was very good in college and has completely tanked since entering professional ball, which I think skipping most minor league development didn’t help. Throw questions about his drive and his willingness to change and I just don’t see what the point of throwing him out there everyday. He’s clearly had some bad batted ball luck, but he’s sitting at -1 wins on the season. I’d send him to AAA in a heartbeat, but not sure we can at this point without his consent due to service time. We should have done this earlier when we had the chance and a bit more control, but alas it feels like the chance of turning Andrew into anything of value is slim to none.1 point

I'm not supporting anything. I'm just saying that reading between the lines of all the comments from Getz down to Thames, they want players with less swing and miss on the team and throughout the organization. Also saying that take offensive production from Charlotte with a skeptical eye because historically that ballpark inflates stats. Everyone can argue for Elko all they want but the organization doesn't seem to like what he has and his glaring weakness is swing and miss.1 point

Good vibes at home in 3 of the last 4 games could easily vanish against a hot team you're playing as the visitor. I might get overly impressed if they can somehow split the series when they have been terrible on the road and against division opponents.1 point

This billionaire owner must run a very busy schedule. Couldn’t make Nancy’s retirement (didn’t realize when she looked up at his suite during her farewell speech to thank him that the SOB wasn’t even there) and was allegedly a no show for an important free agent negotiation meeting with Bryce Harper. Guess he just has a different set of priorities when it comes to the organization. I’ll bet any money he didn’t miss one meeting when he was strong arming his sweetheart lease deal with the state.1 point

Royals have some good pitching lined up. Wouldn't be surprised to see the Sox lose all 4 while only scoring like 6 runs total in the series.1 point

I think the idea taking him so high was he was almost MLB ready. The bat was supposed to be his carrying tool. This was also when the window was opening, so getting someone to play 1B/DH after Abreu to keep the window going was what they were going for. Unfortunately it looks like a big scouting miss. I don't know if any of the motivation or stubbornness issues we've seen hinted at were identifiable from his Cal coaches and teammates, but I'd bet they were. Maybe player dev was also an issue with Vaughn, but if what we've heard is true, no amount of player dev was ever going to help him. The big mistake now is not sending him down to AAA. He needs a wake up call, and Elko is worth bringing up, even if just for a bit while Vaughn shows he can actually listen and make the changes he needs to make.1 point

Colson's issue this year is he is swinging out of the zone way too much. His O-zone swing rate has exploded for some reason, but he's taking more pitches in the zone. Might be cheating for the fastball too much. You don't get a 42% K rate cuz you're swinging at strikes.1 point
