Here's the thing. TODAY I would much rather give Baldwin a shot over Colson, simply because of how up and down Montgomery has been. Baldwin feels like he has nothing else left for AAA, while Montgomery still has some consistency and fielding issues for sure. That could change, but I would absolutely suffer through a mistake ridden and learning Baldwin over Capra, for sure.4 points

Thanks for starting this thread. I've been wanting to say this. With winning this series, the Sox have made me the happiest that they have in a long time. Back in spring training, the Sox were playing the Giants and there must have only been a Giants feed for me to listen to: so I was listening to the Giants announcers and during the game, these Giants announcers had such a total disdain, contempt for the White Sox players and organization, it was just so obvious and insulting. It's hard for me to remember a solid example of what they were saying, but it was pretty much stuff like, "Well, with an at-bat like that you can see how they had the worst offense in baseball last year." Or stuff like, "They lost 121 last year and with these kinds of plays on defense, you can see how." Or maybe, "The set the record for losses last year and they've done nothing to improve that record for this year" (That topic came up a lot.). It just struck me as incredible that these announcers kept saying stuff like that, and what made me even more angry, is that the Sox, at that time when I tuned in, had a lineup loaded with minor league guys, not their regular guys. So, as soon as I turned it off, I went and looked on the schedule and was glad to see that the Sox were playing the Giants, and I was immediately looking forward to the series. Every time I'd be watching the Sox and a Giants' score would come up, I was looking forward to this series. Well, thank your White Sox for coming through for me and winning this series. As yesterday's game was winding down in the 9th with the Giants' last couple at bats in the 9th, I turned on the Giants radio feed just so I hear those same announcers. It was somewhat satisfying to hear them (they couldn't give the Sox any credit) complain about bad at-bats (ironically) and what a tough week it's been and that the Giants need to turn it around before their next series. So, thank your again for starting this thread so I could point out a little bit of pride for me and our White Sox fans, and one more time complement the team for winning this series against a good team, just a team not as good as their radio announcers would like to think.3 points

No matter what you thought of his technical skills, the kids loved him and they played a much cleaner game than they do now.3 points

This organization has hired ken harrelson, ed farmer, and connor mcknight to call games in the past. Let' be real here. Schriffen is not nearly as bad as you think. I've heard hm speak off air, and he's engaging and fun. i think the rhythm of PBP isn't letting him get as much of himself out there as we'd like.3 points

They went into the Barstool office last week and were on a couple shows. It is so refreshing to see some likeable guys on this team, gives me some hope2 points

Thanks. I appreciate that. I fixed it. Thanks for looking out. Good catch. Going 31 overall would be insane. Yeah Billy Carlson would be fun if they can get him. The brother is a super young dude who likely sticks in CF. Interested to see where he goes.2 points

This was win #28 for the season. The 2024 White Sox didn't get their 28th win until August 6th against the A's. This was the 8th series win of the season. The 2024 White Sox won 9 (?) series all year and 3 of those were in September. Also: The White Sox scored as many runs in the getaway game as the Giants did all series (5). They also held the Giants without a HR for the series.2 points

He's hitting over .400 in Charlotte. Time to call him up. I'm kidding, just cautioning a couple of good games doesn't mean someone is fixed.2 points

I'm fine with Baldwin. Colson shouldn't be up before September. Brooks has nothing to prove at AAA. Colson needs to prove it for more than 4 games (or four weeks without me being too much of a smartass).2 points

Exactly. This is what "figuring it out" looks like. Call up Brooks and Colson.2 points

I make it a point to watch the other team broadcast. You seem to learn a lot more about your own team.2 points

Nah, that dude is a special talent. He shot up the Padres system and hit the majors at age 20, after only 3 years in the minors. I don't even think the Sox could've gotten in his way.2 points

Colson is so odd. He's either Martin Maldonado or Barry Bonds at the plate, it feels like no in between. I wonder what the consistency hang up is?2 points

Meidroth being an above average shortstop makes him so much more valuable. If Boston knew that about him, I wonder if they include him in the trade for Crochet. If Colson comes up, I’ll let him start at SS but would play him at 3B, just to give him another position under his belt but the infield will probably look like 1B - Sosa 2B - Meidroth SS - Colson 3B - Vargas Its probably its strongest with 1B -Vargas 2B - Sosa SS - Meidroth 3B - Colson2 points

I apparently voted for 45 ~ 48 wins. I’m quite pleased so far with the team’s record, and even more pleased that it seems like there is some sort of cohesion and thought surrounding player development.2 points

As we hit the mid-point of the season, I thought it would be fun for the various contributors of this sub to share their updated Top 20 prospect lists. For this exercise, let’s exclude any players who have reached rookie eligibility thresholds. This would include Chase Meidroth, Edgar Quero, Brooks Baldwin, Sean Smith, Sean Burke, & Mike Vasil (all in pre-season top 30). Below is my mid-season Top 20 list and a handful of “just missed” guys. I’m sure some of these picks will be ridiculed and by all means flame away! CWS’ Top 20 List: Noah Schultz, LHP Kyle Teel, CA Braden Montgomery, OF Hagen Smith, LHP Caleb Bonemer, SS Grant Taylor, RHP Colson Montgomery, SS Drew Thorpe, RHP George Wolkow, OF Bryan Ramos, 3B Mason Adams, RHP Ky Bush, LHP William Bergola, SS Tanner McDougal, RHP Christian Oppor, LHP Jacob Gonzalez, SS Sam Antonacci, 2B Jeral Perez, 2B Javier Mogollon, 2B Samuel Zavala, OF Just Missed in No Order: Peyton Pallette, RHP Jairo Iriarte, RHP Wikelman Gonzalez, RHP Aldrin Batista, RHP Alexander Albertus, 3B Nick McClain, OF1 point

Based on the assumption GMs not named Chris Getz are naive.1 point
-
I didn’t even really think of that but honesty, probably true haha he would have time missed and teams could think injuries are causing the down year.1 point
-
Arguably, he’d have more trade value if he missed most of the first half of the season to injury than he does now. Because at least the mystique of a star player could live on and a team would “just have to get him healthy.”1 point

Sometimes the best trades are the ones that didn't ever happen...1 point

Eh I don't know what kind of announcers you're expecting for a bad team and jaded fanbase. We're at the point that no matter what, we whine about everything. There is no pleasing , placating, nor soothing us. Is there such an announcer that exists for this fan base that would be universally accepted as decent ? ".Here's the pitch Vaughn hits a ground ball to short for the 50th time this season . The Shortstop could run the ball over to 1st base and still get Vaughn out. Good Lord he's slow. Sit your ass down. Why are you even in the lineup ? Why you even on the team. What is Venable thinking ? What was Getz thinking ? What in heavens name is Reinsdorf doing ? That brings up Louis Robert who is 0 for 4 with 3 K's. He used to be La Pantera. Now he's just a p****... cat. Why can't we have nice things ? Meowww. "1 point

Baldwin is supposed to be able to play everywhere, but I guess he isn’t very strong defensively at any one position. But at this point, I’d sacrifice defense for offense. Rojas is brutal with the bat.1 point

I call complete total BS. Plus the NFL offers individual teams the opportunity to get money for new stadium construction. The McCaskey family is no different from any other entitled sports owner, they expect the city/state for pay for it. Since the last Golden Age for the franchise (1984-1991) they have been absolutely one of the worst franchises in the NFL. You want money from the state and city? Put a damn good product of the field for a change, win something and then we'll talk. They have a lot of gall, just like JR.1 point

Maybe. I'd trade defense for offense on this roster for sure. I also don't know how Baldwin is going to learn what he needs to do in MLB by bashing AAA pitching.1 point

Well his defense isn't racking up killer war if its poor. I was talking about value to the team. If he can fill 6 positions, thats his best bet on a roster.1 point
-
But the stats do mean something. The park doesn't make a hitter barrel more balls, or have a better contact percentage in or out of the zone. Maybe there's some data that shows pitchers adjusting negatively to the dimensions, but I don't know about that.1 point
-
Sure. I'm fine with leaving Baldwin down until after the TDL when the roster opens up and he can get regular time. I'm also fine with Colson coming up sometime after Sept. 1 to preserve his rookie status, and just let him air it out for a month or so, just to make sure he sets some habits and doesn't fall back at the first MLB pitching adjustment to his weaknesses. Yeah, I don't think the White Sox "owe" it to a player to put them in a position to rack up killer WAR. I believe Baldwin will settle in and start to hit, and if he jumps around the diamond, his defense will suffer for it. How deep would they have to go? I assume Robert's gone for anything. If they're kicking in money, Benintendi's gone, too. Tauchman's most likely gone, so that's Baldwin, Julks/Baker and Fletcher/DeLoach. I guess if there's interest, M.A.T. and/or Slater goes, too, and a 4th and 5th OF from that group comes up? I just don't know how much veteran depth they want to clear out. I would think they want a couple 30-year-olds to set an example. Maybe they feel like Vargas, Lee and Sosa provide most of that already?1 point
-
Agreed. No reason for Capra or Rojas to be on the roster. Probably not Noda either, other than the need for another 1B. Baldwin should definitely be up but I can see the rationale in holding Colson down since he has probably finally regained some confidence and the team not wanting to mess with that by throwing him at much more challenging MLB pitching immediately.1 point

Max-out Vargas' value at 3B. Hes been unexpectedly great there regardless. Meidroth has been fine at SS but I believe he's publicly said he prefers 2B and thats where his future is anyways. It's good he can play both though. Baldwin's best value will be to play 6 positions, even if poorly, and spell anyone as needed. Should be plenty of ABs. Play Colson at SS until its clear he's not that. Sosa will have to play 1B and spell 2B when he can but his development takes backseat to Varhas, Colson and Chase.1 point

John is not perfect and may not know the history of baseball (which I could care less about when listening to a game). I find him entertaining and I find his excitement enjoyable especially in the last 2 miserable seasons. I have said all along that if the White sox were a winning team, people would enjoy John a lot more.1 point

the hope is that chicago and the state open up infrastructure funds to solve those problems. as well as build a cta/metra station at 15th and clark. that cost may be greater than what mansueto is paying for his minor league soccer park.1 point

He, Eloy and Moncada can now be known as the "Bust Brothers..." He'll play out the string and the Sox won't pick up his option this off season. As Hawk would say, "He GONE!"1 point

Pre AZ work (AAA statline): 23 G, .149/.223/.255, .479 OPS, 6.8 BB%, 41.7 K%, .106 ISO, .229 BABIP, .225 wOBA, 20 wRC+ Post AZ work (AAA): 29 G, .270/.349/.550, .899 OPS, 8.7 BB%, 28.6 K%, .279 ISO, .343 BABIP, .390 wOBA, 125 wRC+ The ACL tune-up games are omitted bc who cares about those, but it's a significant improvement over the absolute train wreck he was in the early going. Hopefully he can sustain the success without HBPs getting in the way.1 point

Yes. Yes it was. I can (somewhat) forgive trading away Tatis, a guy who you had recently signed at a super low level. You certainly shouldn't miss on evaluating your players that badly, but it's one of the risks of trading lower level players. I also would have liked them to send two players away for something better than Shields, who was terrible and at the end of his career at the time, but I assume they asked for Tatis to eat more money in the deal. The Samardzija trade was HORRIBLE. One of the worst Sox trades I can remember. Semien was a statistical darling in the minors and had a decent amount of hype around here. Bassitt was a solid pitching prospect. Both were MLB ready. Those two alone were way too much for Samardzija, who had only one really good season as a starter, and only had one year left on his deal. Even if Semien was the 3-ish WAR walk machine playing ok defense at second that we expected, and not the guy with multiple seasons above 7 bWAR, it would still be a terrible deal because Bassitt was immediately BETTER than Samardzijia.1 point
