Probably nothing. They very clearly didn't hear the names they would've wanted to for 4 years of Robert though. Nobody expected him to crater like this. Injury risk sure but not sure. It's humorous to me though that people on this board and elsewhere (in hindsight) think that the team should've traded Robert immediately but also believe that they shouldn't have traded Cease when they did. Pick a fucking lane.

If a guy objectively does not have much trade value, then he does not have much trade value. That's not an excuse for getting a small return, that's the reason for getting a small return. There's a difference.

The Sox could be completely stupid I guess, but I assume that if a package of prospects equivalent to or better than Vientos was offered, Robert would be gone by now.

Baseball players don't develop from little league on knowing one position that they never move off from. Moving from SS to 3B isn't a traumatic move for a player. They have 3 shortstops moving through the system, and they just drafted 4 more. In a season where they'll lose 100 games, I'm not sure what the problem is with moving guys around to see where they fit better.

If the value of Robert is Veintos or 2 18 yr old projects in the DSL, I'll take Vientos. I'd rather gamble on a guy who has proved he can hit bombs at the MLB level, buy him on the cheap, and try to get him right again, than depend on the Sox developing dice rolls to be valuable for the team 4 years from now.

I am not immensely enjoying the Guardians having a gambling scandal with a starter and their top tier closer no siree I do not exist solely for schadenfreude at all.

Taylor hasn't proven anything except that he throws hard. You'd selling low. I don't get the fascination with moving him. He barely pitched in college. They're being careful with his usage. We have no idea if he might become a starter but he's a baby in his MLB time now . It's not like he was a big top 100 name. He's still a project . You'd be trading all his upside for a downside price.

I don't think an equivalent to the Nationals/Eaton trade would've close to enough. I think the Sox would've needed like 3 top 100 prospects plus upside top trade 4 years of Luis Robert. I remember pushing back at the time and saying nobody would pay what he's worth after a 5 WAR season. Should they have traded him? It's easy to say yes now. I don't operate that way. We don't agree on this. I'm fine with that.

If the leaks about Taylor not being considered a starter are true, you deal him if someone offers you a top closer price for him. Keeping a Ferrari at your trailercourt is pointless.

For sure, more so just getting the convo started, I'd shoot for the moon for him but would definitely move on if they're getting 2-3 top 100 guys But Clase going down helps with the other guys too which is good

Look, I’m not going to defend Chris Getz on this because we obviously blew a tremendous opportunity to cash in on Robert after the 2023 season. But there was zero reason at the time to expect his results to fall off a cliff like they did. The injury risk was no doubt legit, but the risk of his value eroding like it has was very low. More importantly, I think we do have acknowledge how broken this org was when Chris took it over. There is some rational is saying the org wasn’t in a spot to feel confident in their ability to identify the right talent in return for Robert. I don’t think Chris should get a free pass for that by any means, but I can see some argument that he wanted to fix the infrastructure before trading a 25 year old coming off a massive season with four years of control.

I'm not going to scold my fellow Sox fans about whether they're going to too many or too few games. Everyone has their own personal choices to make even if a vast majority of us hate the current owner and nobody was happy with 121 losses last year. Anyway, one person boycotting the Sox isn't going to suddenly make Jerry see the light after he's been running this team this way for decades. Even when things were going well with the Sox, I never shamed anyone for not going to enough games because it's none of my business and they might have very good reasons for not going more often (financial, family issues, other commitments, etc.). Whatever it was, none of my business. I just hope the fans come back when (someday) the Sox are good again.

Agreed. Assuming theyre still not in the spending phase yet, they will need a very cheap yet reliable RF for 2026 as a bridge to Braden and they are unlikely to find a better/more cost effective solution than Tauchman. If HOU offers something like Sullivan I would do it, but I'm not doing it for some 20-30 ranked scrub.

Heard Jesse on the radio on Friday talking possible Sox moves, he said for this reason, he actually doesn't think Tauchman gets moved. The FO seems to really like what Tauchman has done inside the room with a lot of the young guys that have been called up. We have no way to know if that's true or not, but I don't have any reason to doubt it...so given that he has one more year on control and where this team is at, I'm probably not moving him unless a team out there wants to really overpay for a Mike Tauchman, which I doubt.

If you KNOW there is a really good chance this is peak value, and you allow him to depreciate significantly, you didn't get maximum value, and that ISN'T best for the organization. And honestly, why is the assumption they wouldn't get value? Rick Hahn got huge value for both Chris Sale and Adam Eaton with 4 years of control. Why wasn't Chris Getz capable of doing the same?

He's been on the IL twice already this year. He'll be 35 with one less year of control. Do it now.

I’m very much in the camp of trade anyone that isn’t a part of the team’s future. At the same, I understand needing at least one adult hitter in the lineup next year, and Tauchman seems like a good presence all around.

SD is another possible landing spot. They desperately could use a LF who could help push Sheets to DH and would probably prefer a cheaper option. Tauchman makes a ton of sense there. They also could desperately use a catcher as right now their primary catcher is Martin Maldonado. I’m stealing this from Future Sox, but Korey Lee could make a ton of sense for them. He is performing well with the bat in AAA, but is completely blocked at the moment at the major league level. A Tauchman + Lee trade would help address two major needs for them and neither player would be a rental. Will need to give more thoughts on a potential return.
