  1. It's literally impossible for the Sox to find a better player on the FA market with anywhere close to this upside on a 1 year $20M deal (really $18M because $2M was sunk cost), with an additional 1 year team option at the same rate. Absolute no brainer move imo. I get why a chunk of Sox fans want to move on, but this was an easy decision.
  2. The good news is they will be wearing jersey so you will be able to tell who the hell most of them are.
  3. In other words JR has already told Getz a lockout starts in 13 months and don't spend a dime on any long term deals. (Not that any quality free agents would be interested anyway...)
  4. The brilliance of being the worst organization in baseball is you can take from any team and it's an upgrade.
  5. If he REALLY saw a 121 team on the horizon, he should have been selling like crazy. The problem is most of those guys had no value because of injuries or just generally being awful.
  6. And then? They’re still in last place without breakouts from H.Smith and/or Schultz. And you sure have a lot of faith in a pitching coach who hasn’t done anything yet with the Sox. Civale was 22% below league average, Gomez 13%, Wilson 37%. The biggest successes, Fedde and Houser…were turned into players highly unlikely to contribute to the next Sox playoff team. Shopping at the Dollar Store consistently just leads to more extended poverty.
  7. Going on Year 3 of this. It's unrealistic to expect a guy who has been bad over the last 2 seasons to suddenly play at a higher level (even average).
  8. MLB can’t really afford a lockout. They have won a ton of fans back these last few years and their tv deal is the following year. Not playing the year before that would crush them.
  9. Don’t get too excited. They could look to trade him in Spring Training.
  10. Rinse and repeat this same quote in some similar form or fashion every offseason until Ishbia owns the team.
  11. If you want to give the assistant pitching coach credit for all of their successes why are we not blaming the White Sox current assistant pitching coach for the performances that got the guy above him fired? I hope he’s good, but face it, no one on this board has any idea, good or bad.
  12. Nothing wrong with hiring from the best organizations — the Marlins and Royals Bet they came cheap. 🤣
  13. And if by some miracle he plays well and stays healthy the Sox can ship him out at the deadline get something back for him and JR will be happy he won't have to pay him for the final two months.
  14. It’s not being done in a vacuum. He’s not the first Royals hire.
  15. So does Venable get any say in his staff? Or are these all Getz/front office hires? If so is that normal? Genuinely asking because I have no idea.
  16. Looks like Hudl might have a free live stream of the BR @ Jacobs game: https://fan.hudl.com/usa/il/algonquin/organization/18092/jacobs-high-school/watch?b=QnJvYWRjYXN0MzAwNTY1NQ%3D%3D If you have a smart TV, you can search for and install the “Hudl Fan” app and then search for either Brother Rice or Jacobs High School to find the live stream of the game for Saturday. This is a screenshot of the “Hudl Fan” app from my phone:
  17. I don’t know whether these guys can coach; but I like their resumes/profile. And some coaching churn is always healthy.
  18. BR should be fine, but Jacobs is way better than AT. AT played nobody and Jacobs losses are to really good teams for their classification. Fenwick/Naz better not sleep on Burlington in the quarters/semis too.
  19. Agreed. They have been successful at finding low cost veteran options on cheap deals to eat up innings. That should continue to be part of their approach to complement the development/continuous drafting of top prospects. I don't think it's likely to think they will dip into the premier free agent market for starters and hopefully they have learned to not do this for middle relievers. They still need to determine if they have top end starters vs middle/bottom of the rotation types with their younger prospects, but they are off to a good start with building up enough pitching depth to get through the season.
  20. Sign as many pitchers to 1 year deals as possible and hope a few of them can provide innings.
  21. I think they’ll be fine. Better to play the weaker team than Addison Trail. I’m not positive but it looks like the only feed for the game may be through the IHSA site. It looks like you can sign up for a month for $14 bucks and then cancel before the next month’s charge. https://www.maxpreps.com/m/news/tqDyETsJe0eVW8iPwwbL-w/football-game-preview-brother-rice-crusaders-vs-jacobs-golden-eagles--how-to-watch.htm
  22. Amazing that just average baseball players can make $20 million for one year.
  23. But how about those Bulls/Bears/Darryn Peterson at KU?
  24. VOOOOOOOOOCHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!
  25. https://x.com/DrakeMann4/status/1985898790319268278?t=ADCJl5g4NoyZG293Yr-vVw&s=19
  26. Hagen with two perfect innings in his start today with four strikeouts.
  27. He had so much freedom he felt the confidence to stage a coup against a SVP who won only the third Sox WS and a highly paid GM with a Northwestern-Kellogg/Harvard Law background who'd won MLB Executive of the Year in 2019. Where did all that confidence come from?
  28. I will say “Shomon!” like Michael Jackson and nobody can stop me
  29. can't wait til all the low IQ players are gone
  30. When you are a bad team, you take your swings on upside. So very few centerfielders can hit. Its a name that you know. And honestly, he seems like a good dude. Just can't produce or stay healthy consistently.
  31. Why some of the media acted like they weren’t going to pick it up was so weird. Getz literally said they were the entire time.
  32. The Luis Robert experience continues for one more year in Chicago. Maybe this is finally the year he stays healthy and puts up a monster year! Stop me if you've heard that one before...
  33. I just bought the monthly team pass. Hope they can at least keep me interested til spring training.
  34. The Sox aren’t moving to Nashville or anywhere. Nashville will get an expansion team or nothing.
  35. No conspiracy needed. Jerry is not a cash rich owner, and he was having an active capital crunch. The signs are all there and public.
  36. He has left a lot of money on the table and depreciated the value of his organization by being such a penny pinching dipshit
  37. Wait, you’re trying to use the Bears as an argument for why the Sox don’t suck or something?
  38. It says they have had one winning season in the last 12. The Bears have been abjectly awful at decision making but they have tried to win, Jerry has done no such thing. The Sox have had the worst season in the history of the league and are on year 3 of 100 losses.
  39. That would be a positive thing. Could be all it takes to go from 121 losses to 121 wins in one season.
  40. I think the line just started forming.
