  1. There really are some anonymous shitbags on this website. Just a completely derailed thread full of utter nonsense.

  2. I don't want to have a political debate with you, as like some here I find the polarization nauseating, BUT I do care about rights and the law and procedure. From the DOJ itself: DOJ Bylaws (https://www.justice.gov/jm/1-16000-department-justice-policy-use-force): Deadly force may not be used solely to prevent the escape of a fleeing suspect. Firearms may not be discharged solely to disable moving vehicles. Specifically, firearms may not be discharged at a moving vehicle unless: (1) a person in the vehicle is threatening the officer or another person with deadly force by means other than the vehicle; or (2) the vehicle is operated in a manner that threatens to cause death or serious physical injury to the officer or others, and no other objectively reasonable means of defense appear to exist, which includes moving out of the path of the vehicle. The officer very clearly was able to move out of the path of the vehicle in the video, therefore he violated the policy and the DOJ law as it relates to discharging a weapon. It's important to know your rights, and the expectations of law enforcement. Fleeing a crime, that was a misdemeanor at best, does not allow for law enforcement to shoot you. It is black and white.

  4. If he lost a family member, he would not have had to get approval from his employer is the point I was trying to make. There is a very big distinction here. And as someone else has pointed out, this wasn’t a lifelong friend and a normal “funeral”. No matter your political beliefs and whether the situation was fair or not, this was certainly going to be a distraction and risk conflict in the clubhouse. And let me be very clear here. I am supportive of differing political views. What I am intolerant to is hate in any form and Charlie Kirk routinely made dumb, hateful comments that created further division in this country. You seem to be arguing for a greater tolerance for political & religious freedoms, but then are surprised by the baggage that comes with being BFFs with a political pundit who was very black & white with his views. If there was a similar extremist on the left side that someone pulled the same move with I’d feel exactly the same.

  5. What is this infatuation with Shaw that I clearly don't see? He had 3rd percentile exit velo, 16th percentile bat speed. He doesn't hit the ball hard at all. Sure he's fast and good on defense, but you can't stick at 3B hitting the ball that softly. His entire Baseball Savant page is blue (ironic) except his whiff% and sprint speed.

  8. People are being murdered in our streets, targeted by a unaccountable, non-police force, you know the whole reason for the 2ndA in most discussions, and in this case, you can't rush fast enough to justify it. We have toppled governments for less. Like I said previously, exactly. This is exactly what what I expected.

  9. I am not surprised at all by this response either. All lives matter after all, right? Oh you guys aren't telling that lie anymore? Same with the extra judicial executions in the streets being a reason for regime change? Save the one way feelings.

  11. Let’s be honest here, he wasn’t allowed to make this decision on his own without risk of a consequence. He had to get approval from the Cubs front office to attend this “funeral”. If the rules don’t consider this an automatic reason to miss a game, I think it warrants open discussion. This isn’t tee-ball, this is professional sports and guys have sacrificed much more to play in games with stakes. And yes it matters because a poster is saying we should go out and acquire the dude. Unfortunately character does matter and this player has some baggage behind just skipping important baseball games to attend the “funeral” of an extremely polarizing right wing media personality he BFFed up within the last year. I guess that his decisions to resist Cubs coaching should also be ignored due to your full support of all people’s individual rights.

  13. I think the latest body cam footage from the agent definitely changes the perspective on things. The agent was an Iraq War veteran that earned the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Medal and the Iraq Campaign Medal. Ironically, last June, the same agent had been dragged by an illegal immigrant in his car for 50 yards and he required 33 stitches as a result. The illegal immigrant that dragged the agent had previously been arrested for domestic assault and convicted of sex crimes against an underage teenager.

  14. The fact that Getz apparently had to talk Jerry into a 2/$34M for Murakami by making a revenue generation-based argument suggests two troubling things: (1) Getz doesn't have the autonomy to add a 2/34 to his sub-$90M payroll, and (2) Jerry doesn't seem to currently feel like "making the team better" is worthy of monetary investment on its own I just can't quite imagine that we're going to see them taking on any bad money for anything so frivolous as acquiring talent.

  15. Lmao youre calling the south loop a despressed dead zone vs their current location, sandwiched between a super highway, rail yard, public housing and seas of parking lots. I cant think of anything more depressing than their current location. Maybe if they moved to O block..

  16. Loveland was the most athletic TE I've ever seen at UM and we've had some good ones. He has unreal hands and fluidity for a guy that big. Some of the catches he made in big spots for UM were the definition of "game breaker". In the championship game against UW he caught a ball that I think even 90% of NFL TEs don't catch and he made about 40 yards out of it, got UM the momentum back. I believe it would have setup 3rd and long if he didn't catch it, instead it was a huge chunk play. He tried to play through a badly injured shoulder his junior year in a season that was over really before it began with Alex Orji and Davis Warren the QBs. He could have just shut up shop and gotten ready for the draft but he reinjured it instead and it cost him his first NFL training camp and lord knows how many weight room days leading up to the combine. He's a gamer on top of everything else and wants to play even when it might cost him personal stats if he can help the team anyway he can. Willing blocker and has a mean streak too. Other than maybe not being roided up like Brock he has no weaknesses. Create a player type guy.

  21. I believe he said it was the loudest he's ever heard a game at Soldier Field. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but he did NOT say it was the loudest he's ever heard a football game. He said this was the 31st time he's done a game at Soldier Field and this was the loudest he's ever heard the place.

  22. Drafting and developing has certainly gotten better. I’m a big fan of Shirley and think he’s legit good at what he does if unimpeded. Need to see some more wins on the development side before I say we are even average there, but am confident we are no longer multitudes below the normal bad teams.

  25. No idea, but Shaw isn’t going to be free while Vargas is. Ultimately, I don’t see us being interested in Shaw given our glut of infielders. Just a poor use of resource allocation unless he comes incredibly cheap, which I very much doubt. IMO, you need to see what you have in Vargas at 3B this year. If he can handle the position and show a bit more power, he can be a core piece from 2027 to 2029 or at worse a valuable trade chip. Vargas flashed enough last year to avoid blocking him with further outside additions.

  26. To get this thread back on track, there has been some buzz that the Phillies are trying for Kyle Tucker. If they add Tucker, does that take them out of the Realmuto market and force them to look at cheaper options for catcher? I know it won’t be popular here, but I still like the idea of a Quero for Crawford trade and Justin will be hard pressed to get any meaningful playing time if Tucker is added.

  27. Who gives a s%*# what Cubs player did during the season. Nobody here should give a s%*# if he went to a funeral or not, he is human and allowed to make his own decisions. Just because they don't align with you doesn't make him a shitty person or teammate. Nobody knows Matt Shaw the person to pass judgement on his intentions or beliefs. Keep standing on your "morale" high ground

  35. Okay, here's a SouthSideShowDown blog post about how the Sox could get a prospect for taking Castellanos off the Phillies' hands. White Sox could help Phillies pursuit of Bo Bichette with this unconventional trade First of all, could somebody tell me about all these trades that happen where teams send top prospects to other teams so they can pay their own players to play for someone else? Is that like Free Money day at the bank? Seriously, the White Sox sent international budget money to the Rangers for them to buy out Dionner Navarro's option within the last decade, and the world went mad with rage over how stupid and cheap that was. When else does this even happen? Looking today, there aren't even that many situations where teams roster players they might like to dump. Here's my list: Toronto - Andres Giminez Boston - Masataka Yoshida Houston - Carlos Correa Oakland - Luis Severino Philadelphia - Castellanos, Taijuan Walker Mets - Kodai Senga(?) St. Louis - Nolan Arenado Rockies - Kris Bryant Some of these, like Bryant - is just too cost-prohibitive to take on. Toronto seems to be happy with Giminez, Houston with Correa. The other teams listed have been shopping these guys for a couple of years, now, and somehow, they haven't been moved with "prospects". We don't need a DH. We already have Benintendi. Nobody's been beating down our door trying to trade for him and Hagen Smith. (Maybe 10-D and Jacob Gonzalez, in reality). I just don't think these deals happen, anymore. But everybody on Twitter and other boards keep throwing this fantasy at the wall, like every other day, teams are throwing prospects at teams with space to take their overpriced contract.
