  1. Tim Elko was one of those punted picks. It's just the wrong way to look at the draft. I always put the players in order by signing bonus. Many players taken in rounds 11-20 are more highly regarded than guys in 7-10. If you want a player that is signing for $50K, it makes sense to do it rounds 7-10 and re-allocate that bonus pool space. Everyone in rounds 11-20 can get $150K without penalty. It's just important to understand how the draft and bonus pools work. Roch Cholowsky has an incredibly high ceiling too. Perennial All Star SS with plus defense is his ceiling. The reason why the floor argument comes into play is that he's a definite big leaguer but I also believe that he's the most likely guy to reach his high ceiling. Jacob Lombard has a higher ceiling. He also has a way more difficult path to actually reaching that immense ceiling. Taking Roch Cholowsky is a no brainer for me.
  2. Something funny about Roch Cholowsky. He hit .125 last week. I've heard some use that as a negative. He also had a .500 OBP. The .125 was basically 1-8 lol with a bunch of walks and HBP. The microanalysis of this dude is nuts.
  3. It's such a PR win. Kids of hometown heroes + prospects. Not wanting to take Roch is the definition of the "my steak is too tender and my lobster too buttery" meme. A ton of people seem to assume 1) Emerson will magically turn into a CF 2) Colson, Meidroth, Vargas and Murakami are all locked in here for the next decade. Let's remember that the Sox took Colson when they had an All-Star SS.
  4. Chairman of the Board is too much of a stretch. Drop it.
  5. Bad ideas? They abound now that a Billionaire owner, not familiar with SS Sox fans has decided to move mountains (so to speak) to do whatever it takes to move the White Sox from their historical home. He risks ruining South side neighborhoods that have been gentrifying for years North and East of the park. Instead, he proposes moving an Amtrak rail yard there, leaving empty surface lots and a stadium that will need to be demolished. Great urban planning buddy, but who cares from your vantage point on the North shore? Allegedly, Jerry is Greedy but Ishbia is not. Yep, got that from Ishbia's Winnetka project. The "78" preliminary plans do not include adequate surface parking. No tail-gaiting just get the fans into the stadium asap to eat and drink more. Keep the fans in their seats, like at Wrigley. No room for expansive outfield concourses like the Rate has. A view of the Loop from your seat? Probably not. I digress....years ago the beloved Jack Brickhouse used to enjoy announcing home runs as fans watched Ernie's HR bound out of the park. That very special feature of Wrigley was erased when Ricketts decided to block views from inside and from outside the park with several scoreboards, including that monstrosity in LF. Another bad idea - back some proposed stadium up to the canal. The canal is not a river. Google "Bubbly Creek." That section of the canal is probably still not safe to swim in or fall into. It's dark, silty, stagnant water with decaying organic sludge at the bottom. If you have ever been to Oracle Park you would laugh at the notion that the sanitary canal would be comparable to McCovey Cove in any way, shape or form. But dream on. Someone suggested that fans abandon their old habits of driving to the park with family and friends and instead drive to train stations. Another bad idea that makes traveling more time consuming, less convenient and less safe for many fans, especially in the far SW suburbs. That idea could very well lead to less attendance in the long run ... a lot less. Anyway, as mere fans, let's not get to sappy about the proposed stadiums. The stadium issues for the Bears and the White Sox are mostly about billionaire money and greed - priorities which always trump anything else.

Next time we get swept ur on. Mojo is too good since the Colson pic.

Bring back the Schriffen profile pic you coward!

So Mom, Dad's on a work trip to Omaha this week. Do you give him the green light?
  9. You're a Sox fan. Your life IS suffering.
  10. It freaking stinks. Who the hell wants to be reminded of Jerry with a Sox player’s nickname? Ron needs to go back to the bat cave and reassess this one.
  11. I’m disappointed in the lack of Charles Johnson comps solely due to race
  12. How many years will it take Caufield to accept his L on Antonacci. His hatred fuels my fanhood more.
  13. That’s what I thought, I said s%*#, they traded Sam.

    Dare I say
  15. I thought appreciation threads came after a player departs. Like we need a Lenny Sosa appreciation thread.
  16. I'm looking at the schedule in June and it's absolutely brutal. We play 4 contenders in a row. Phillies, Braves, Dodgers, and Yankees. If we make it out of that still in contention, then we should definitely be buying at the deadline.
  17. Panicans would rather their preseason predictions be correct than the White Sox winning their division!
  18. Thanks tray. Means a lot. Sorry if I was rude in the past. You are right though. Ray Ray hopped on the bandwagon after I did.
  19. I give credit to Ron for being one of the first to promote Sam before we all realized that he is a very good player. Ron is the Chairman of this Board.
  20. I wouldn't touch a 1,1, catcher HS or college with @ron883 's dick. Cool name though and one that will def be one of those "wait, Vahn Lackey is black" type things for awhile.
  21. I'd get the straight-A/perfect attendance tickets, and my dad would take me to 3-4 ballgames a summer. 74, 77. 83 were all great, fun teams.

Well Hagen is walking even more batters than Carson was before he got called up. But Carson is the exact cautionary tale. Was rushed up to the big leagues without showing that he had figured out the minor leagues. Then the MLB stint went so badly it set him back for years, leaving him posting worse numbers in the minors afterwards than he had before.

tjstats.ca is the most user-friendly option for AAA Statcast season data AFAIK. They're basically trying to replicate the Baseball Savant pages.

Yeah to me it looks like it could go so badly at the MLB that it could ruin him mentally (and that's not a comment on his mental state, more about how bad I think it could go)
  25. Probably not going to win the WS for a while considering the Sox and Cubs have only won one time each in over 100 years. It's just damn fun watching this team. They are getting right up there with some of the most exciting White Sox teams I can recall starting with the '77 Hitmen. What a summer that was in the old yard. Then TLR's '8 team with Fisk and Luzinski...roof shots with Harry announcing them. I loved the 2005 WS win, but there have been so many great seasons over the many years on 35th Street.

I just don't understand the folks that think he should be called up. Maddening to watch.

41 is way too young. RIP.

Sure. For now. The issue is in the future when you have to choose between Bonemer and Antonacci. At some point, you will have Cholowsky Carlson and Colson that are all from well above average to elite SS's. SS's tend to go to either second base, CF or third base/RF if moved off that position. Tatis for example has gone from SS to GG RF and now 2B. Merrill to CF from SS.

The notion that Meidroth and Antonacci are redundant, and thus one should be traded, does not hold water. (credit to Joe Pesci "My Cousin Vinnie"). Both players have played important roles in the line-up. Chase is a better 2nd basemen, but so what? Sam is hitting close to .300 and is absolutely clutch. He is learning the LF position on the go but as long as he is hitting with a high OBP, that's OK. Those two players along with Tristan Peters are the glue that holds a line-up with the power hitters together. If only Kyle Teel could get back into this line-up and maybe bring Braden up for RF. That line-up would be awesome.
  30. I don’t even know who you’re referring to anymore lol. I get my threads all mixed up and I’m too lazy to go reread everything.
  31. If it were me I would simply never admit that a cute blonde Sox fan in a tennis skirt wrecked my career by saying that I sucked and gave me thumbs down.
  32. “You’ve chosen to ignore content by The Hall of Fame List inductees.” Best feature on this site.
  33. Seems like the grindiest ones are the easiest to grind up.
  34. I don't think the 2026 team is built to make a deep run in the playoffs, if they even get there. But it's an important building year where the team is learning that they can compete, and how to win. I don't get the guys who think you can't talk positive about a team unless they put up a W today.
  35. So you want less high ceiling, overslot high school picks. Got it.
  36. And Ron would rather troll than contribute.
  37. 1 point
Or Antonacci if he eventually moves back to 2B…where his bat has even more value.

Exactly. I dont think there's much of a need to start throwing high draft picks away. As much as Id like to say I told you so about the Sox being on the rise moreso than you'd think , we can't over react to all the good play and good vibes. I dont know if they can pick up a guy for practically nothing like they did with Adrian Houser last year but let's get to that phase and another 45 games before we start skewering the depth in the minors. Have to keep in mind that Mune may not be with the Sox in 2028 which means that they would have to trade him after this year . If you ate going to lose him you cant lose him for nothing or even a comp pick. This uptick may be short lived without a 40 HR lefty Japanese superstar bringing happy happy joy joy to us and JR too. So we may need Gonzales and Cholowsky and other picks from that draft and those players we get for Mune especially with our top young arms struggling and injured. Top position player prospects will always be worth more than top pitching prospects . Getz is playing the long game as he should. Keep on amassing talent and build a strong franchise. If they do that by the time Ishbia comes in this franchise could be the Midwest version of the Dodgers dominating the division and making the playoffs year after year over our weaker more impoverished division foes. I like that scenario a lot more than trying for quick fixes in a year that's unexpectedly good but not likely to produce a long playoff run . We don't want to end up like the Mets with the owner spending mindlessly ,playing catchup, looking for quick fixes. It's imperative that JR not be a part of any overexuberant hopes at the moment because playing the long game is the only way to go without him around to crush your dreams.

I hope they don't do anything. No reason for it. Reminds me of the usual off day discussions.

If Gonzalez keeps hitting like he is, I might consider trading Meidroth over Gonzalez. Like some one suggested in the minor league game thread, I think you call him up and just move him around in like a Ben Zobrist type toll......That's if they dont just move on from Benni which is probably ideal even after showing signs of life.
  41. 1 point
Getz will be all over it. And honestly he has hit on a few dumpster dives. Davis, Peters, hill , grichuk, Romo, Hudson have all contributed and won games for us. Last year vasil and Smith. You throw enough 💩 at the wall something will stick.

Always be selling. Or at least, don't use resources on older players. That's how you get worse. Especially avoid hyped names and career years. Walbert Urena - Angels. 22 year old was ranked in the teens in the Angels system, wasn't pitching well in the minors, but they called him up anyway. He's pitched reasonably well. But he throws mid-high 90s. A couple of 2nd tier prospects should do it. Gonzalez maybe.

God this is so much more fun then the other way around One I have my eye on is Joe Ryan. If we can avoid a lockout, we'd have two years of control.
