I am just scouting the stat line but damn Jaden Woods (acquired in the Jacob Gonzalez trade) can really rack up some strikeouts. 14.9 K/9 so far in Chicago and 44 strikeouts over 28 AAA innings.

Your first place Chicago White Sox packed their hot bats for the road trip and picked up a 7-4 win over the T_ins. They (finally) set a new high water mark of 8 games over .500. CLE (and DET) also lost, so the division lead extends to 3.5 games. Really savvy deployment of the pen to only use 3 arms to cover 5 innings. Castillo didn't pitch well, but he outpitched Kremer and that ended up being enough. With Kremer maybe being the best arm going for MIN this series, you take a win where the Sox never trailed even if it wasn't pretty getting there. Mune's defense was very key to this one with a pair of crucial double plays to match his pair of hits. 71 wins sets a new MLB record for a season following 3+ years of 100+ losses.

Even if he becomes a great reliever, that's not the best outcome for the #5 pick. Especially when the guy in front of him won AL ROY and the guy behind him is on his way to hitting 30 homers.

He was lucky he only gave up 4.

They are the only team in the AL I'd think we wouldn't have more than a 40/60 chance against. The top of their rotation in a short series will be hard to beat. I'd say we'd be heavy dogs, like +400 or something to win the series whereas maybe +150, 175 against Rays or Boston. At least in my odds.

The problem is we have a lot of mediocre to bad pitchers on the staff that do not own put away type stuff. They don't have to worry about pitches they can't get a bad on.

I think they'll hold on to win the division just based on how bad all the teams are in it. Ending the season with 3 home games against the worst team in baseball is probably going to be huge.

Worse how ? What metric are you using to come to this conclusion ? At the trade deadline the Sox had a 3 game lead. It's 2.5 now while Cleveland has won 7 in a row against 2 of the worst teams in baseball. Davis Martin hasn't got a single win since the TDL with an ERA of 14.63 in 3 starts 21 games since the TDL Murakami is hitting .141, 280 OBP and .372 slg. Colson Montgomery .566 OPS since TDL Burke in 5 games is 4.74 ERA and 5.60 FIP . Castillo 4 games 5.89 ERA but a FIP of 5.37 so while none of that is good the FIP is slightly better than Burke and much better than Martin Right after the TDL the Sox went 0-4 but since then 11-7 so maybe your early impression after the TDL skewed your thinking. So .500 since the TDL while their 2 best starting pitchers and their best HR hitter and 3rd best HR hitter all have slumped. Also Sox 1st reached 7 games above .500 July 21st and are still 7 games above .500 but they've basically been a .500 team for 3 months. They've done what they have done all year which is pick each other up. Highly doubt any of the acquisitions have made enough contributions for anyone to prove they are a worse or better team now . They were 18-10 in May. Since then 36-35.

Yeah, if there was an equivilant pitcher (RP or SP at this point) I would be in. Catcher I could listen on. Everything else? Nah.

I am fairly confident that Acuna played himself out of the outfield with how bad he was with cutoffs and being properly positioned while catching the ball.

jeff cohen @TripleAJeff Five shutout innings for Davis Martin. 1 hit, 1 walk, 5 strikeouts. He’s only at 59 pitches but that’s it. He only threw 9 sinkers but got 5 called strikes. He threw 14 4-seamers, averaging 93.8 mph, with 2 called strikes and 2 whiffs. In addition, he tossed 13 cutters, 9 curves, 9 changeups and 5 sliders. He got 3 whiffs off the changeups, the most of any pitch. Martin was very efficient, and his control was excellent. I’m hoping the velo drop on the hard stuff has more to do with the fact that he’s coming off an IL stint for a blister. Tanner McDougal on in relief.

The second time Doughtery went to bat, with six straight walks already in the books, White Sox manager Billy Sullivan suggested Doughtery leave his bat in the dugout. With two out, Luis Aparicio, Nellie Fox and Roy Sievers ripped consecutive singles, scoring a run and putting the tying runs on base. Manager Al Lopez called on Ted Kluszewski to pinch hit. “Big Klu” drilled the pitch from Milt Pappas into the right field stands for an apparent three run homer except for one small thing… Third base umpire Ed Hurley called time! Nobody remembered seeing him do it but he refused to change his call. Fox was ejected in the confrontation afterwards and Lopez played the game under protest. Hurley called time right before the pitch to tell Sox players Floyd Robinson and Earl Torgeson that they were warming up in the wrong area. The next day Hurley was quoted in the newspapers as saying "I wish to heck I hadn’t called it; I’d gladly take it back.” End result was the Sox lost 3-1, and were now three games behind the Yankees. Kluszewski later recalled that this game was the one that broke the team’s spirit that season. August 28, 1983 - Greg Luzinski completed his ‘downtown triple crown’ by blasting a pitch from Boston’s Dennis “Oil Can” Boyd over the roof in left center field in the first inning. It was Luzinski’s third roof shot in 1983 the others came versus the Twins and Yankees. Greg would have four roof top home runs in his White Sox career. The Sox took care of Boston on this afternoon 6-2 before over 33-thousand fans. August 28, 1990 - Frank Thomas, who would become the White Sox all-time home run leader, belted his first big league round tripper. Thomas connected in the ninth inning of a game at the Metrodome off the Twins Gary Wayne. The Sox would lose that day 12-6. Thomas had 448 home runs in a Sox uniform. August 28, 1998 - The Sox and Rangers combined for 14 home runs in a double header at Comiskey Park, tying the American League mark. The teams hit seven in the first game, seven in the second. Texas and the Sox split the two games on the day.
