  1. they will remain southsiders. it's not that deep.
  2. Hitting dingers into the Chicago River would be for the tourists. Hitting dingers into the Cal-Sag would be for the Southsiders.
  3. The South loop is on the South side of Chicago. This is dumb.
  4. While we’re at it, is Bridgeport even south enough? Ishbia move the team to Morgan Park you coward.
  5. I can picture an over-exuberant Schriffen wearing an old-timey striped railroad engineer cap and bellowing “TOOT TOOT!” and ringing a bell like mad after every home run.
  6. The idea that the Sox belong only to the segment of the Chicagoland market that is south of, say, I-55 is absurd and short-sighted. That would mean the Sox truly are a small market team within the 3rd largest US market. Moving them to Arlington Heights or Rosemont would be stupid. I'd also agree that moving them to DuPage would mean they're no longer South Siders....even though Jerry and Eddie wanted to do it in 1986. But I doubt many fans are going to say that moving 2.5 miles due north of the current ballpark and yet still south of Roosevelt means they're no longer the South Side team.
  7. I gotta admire the hustle. The work being put in to try to find something to anger people about, and the willingness to try, try again is rare in this day and age, while the refusal to admit you are wrong is almost Presidential.

Guys who are past their prime making close to $25M signed for another year while pitching like crap half way through the season usually aren’t hot commodities
  11. Honestly it opens up so much more chance of capturing the casual fans who have been pretty much ceded to the team on the Northside for decades now. If you can capture some of that crowd that is downtown for other things, and it becomes a 2 stop train ride, or even a 15-30 minute walk depending on where you are, maybe you get a following of people who "just want to go to a game" versus Sox fans who were going to game no matter where the park is. It is incredibly clear that this has never happened in Bridgeport, and there wasn't the energy to really give that a go, no matter who or what was at fault for that. In terms of the future of the franchise, if this happens in the basic form that we are seeing in front of us (The railyards spot, the retro-ish stadium, correcting the sins of New Comiskey, capturing the casual fan, a ton more transpo options for both the local and out of town crowd, etc) this could literally the best thing to happen to the franchise long term in forever. Obviously this could all fall apart or be fucked up, but I haven't been this excited for the franchise in forever.
  12. 37th and Honore is the officially designated geographic center of Chicago. By that logic, we were never on the southside to begin with. Assuming the organization continues to define itself and its fans as South Siders, I don’t mind moving a few blocks north. If anything, that’ll just expand our turf. The Loop will officially be known as White Sox territory!

Yes, which is why I spent the last day telling everyone who disagreed with me they were wrong in this thread. No wait, that was you.

I don't have a problem saying a defensive whiz can be a help, but I hope we didn't give up Mason Adams for a defensive replacement. That would be the very definition of losing a trade.
  18. We really just need to take one of those games in Cleveland and get the tie breaker. Just don't get swept
  19. Is Nashville southside enough for ya?
  20. Let’s go Baltimore. With this few amount of games remaining, 3 games up seems so much better than 2 games up.

The Castillo trade is a complete disaster. Doyle brings something to the Sox this year but they gave up too much for him. Brazoban has been awful but there is at least a little hope he can be better and close to worth his trade. Bart obviously bad luck but also probably could get the same thing from players they either already had or could have gotten for free. Overall, a complete bed-shitting trade deadline. Focusing on guys under contract for next year was a huge mistake. Could have gotten a much better SP for a similar price by just grabbing one of several 2026 FAs. Do that, and the other smaller failures don't matter as much.

I think it’s very clear that Getz both panicked at the deadline and backed himself into a corner by prioritizing control. I’m sure anyone worth a damn, even rentals, had outrageous asking prices to start and Getz didn’t want to give up those guys. Unfortunately, negotiations almost always start off with highly unrealistic demands and the deadline is no different. Had he been willing to wait it out more, he probably could have gotten a better SP at a lower cost for Boston Smith. Instead, he likely jumped on what he thought was the more affordable option at the time, well before the actual deadline. Anyone with the slightest ounce of objectivity could tell that trade was an L from the get go from a cost-benefit perspective. And to no one’s surprise, fixing players mid season is hard and Castillo has been a disaster. At this moment, making no trade would have been better than the “innings” Castillo is giving us. Getz deserves to be ridiculed for this trade because on paper it was really bad and even worse in reality. The Doyle trade was also super bizarre and even a bit cocky I’d say. Don’t get me wrong, the dude has some serious tools, but has been a disaster the past two years and was going to be a massive project with the bat. To think they could fix him down the stretch reeks of arrogance and it’s not like the cost was just money. Mason Adams was a top 15ish org prospect and is a better a major league pitcher right now than Luis Castillo. To weaken our biggest area of need (SP depth) to add a project 4th OF when you had a young controllable OF who was crushing LHP when healthy just never made an ounce of sense to me. Yes, Periera is made of glass and maybe they didn’t like his CF defense, but that is such a niche need and a questionable way of addressing it. Ultimately from these two moves, Getz weakened the current team’s rotation and lineup against LHP to improve the OF defense when Peters is sitting. And to make that trade-off, they took on considerable money for next year. I ripped both trades the second they happened and it has nothing to do with hindsight. I also applauded the Brazoban & Bart trades and continue to do so despite the results not being there. There is good process and there is bad process and it’s clear as day that Getz had a bad plan at the deadline, executed said plan poorly, and it’s proven costly right now. I can support not trading your key prospects when you’re competing a year earlier than expected, but there were better trades to be made with guys like Boston Smith, Mason Adams, and others in that tier. I’m not sure how anyone could be arguing otherwise here.
  23. We have a good bullpen.
  24. My grandmother lived at 36th and Hermitage. My father grew up there and lived there for 30 years. I was at that house for almost every holiday. I also spent the first couple years of my life living there. My grandparents lived in Worth their entire lives. That's where my mother grew up and still lives. I live right down the street from Beverly and Mt. Greenwood. My entire family is south side. Nobody gives a s%*# about the park moving 2.5 miles. Nobody. Because the neighborhood where the park is now, sucks, and has always sucked. This obsession is absolutely unhinged.

The FO said that they were going to trade for a project starting pitcher and a project CF that may not actually help them in a playoff hunt this season, but it’s okay because they said that’s what they were going to do? Huh? Also, Castillo has had 5 bad outings out of 6. It isn’t just one bad outing. And he’s running out of outings for this season and playoff hunt.

  28. Our Magic number has gone down 4 days in a row....I'll take that.

  30. Thank God the Orioles staved off the inevitable Cleveland rally. I'm getting tired of their fraudulent bullshit walkoff wins when they look like garbage for the whole game and then have 1 or 2 good innings and somehow fraud it out. I'm fucking sick of this s%*#....we should be ahead by like 6 or 7 games. At least we picked up that crucial half game today. Thank you, Orioles! At least Elias and Co. aren't totally worthless like the fucking Tigers. Sox back up to 3 game lead over the fraudulent Tribe.
  31. Bridgeport is a s%*# location for a ballpark, and always has been. I have never understood this argument. There's nothing there but apartments, warehouses, and houses. There's nothing to do. I have literally never stuck around the neighborhood after a game. The game ends, and you leave. Bridgeport has had decades to do something to make people stick around after games and spend money, and has utterly failed.

Four games up in the loss column.
  33. Cleveland lost 6-4 against the O's today . Sox lead back to 3 games.
  34. Thank you, Baltimore! Very cool!
  35. I have no idea why some are so afraid of Cleveland. They had one good streak against the worst teams in baseball, otherwise they’re mediocre at best. Just take care of our business.

Between this and Beni last week, maybe we've got a pattern of guys showing out on "their" magic number day? Lots of low numbers left to keep it going: Newcomb #15, Colson #12, Chase #10, Teel #8, Doyle #7, Mune #5... And of course, you won't want to miss the Acuna #0 clincher performance.

Latest predictions from Baseball Reference have the White Sox going 10-9 the rest of the way and the Guards 9-9, Sox would finish at 85-77 and Guards 82-80.

I mean, can you prove they DID have trade interest? Their teams basically discarded them to the scrap heap. These aren't guys who had roles on bad teams, before the Sox traded for them. Common sense would dictate that a washed-up pitcher demoted from starter to the bullpen on an absolute dogshit fucking team.... had no value. He was absolutely a DFA candidate. My cousin's husband is a Mariners fan, and he couldn't understand the trade at all. Common sense would also dictate that a guy who was not a starter and had only played 40 or so games for another absolute dogshit fucking team... had no value. It takes a special kind of arrogant, or incredibly stupid, to believe your team, who is in a fucking pennant race.... could make use of players that HORRIBLE TEAMS HAD NO USE FOR. Use your fucking head.

Where was the market for Castillo and Doyle? Can you find some articles that said that other teams were interested in these two guys? Why would there be a market for these guys? Why would an expensive starter with a 5+ ERA that was pitching poorly in a pitcher’s park (T-Mobile Park) and owed $23.75 million next year garner any trade interest? Also, why would an outfielder that hasn’t OPS’ed above .600 in two full seasons while playing his home games at Coors be sought after? You are making excuses for bad moves made by a GM that you will defend no matter what. Getz has made some amazing moves but it’s obvious that he is was in over his head at the deadline. We are sitting here with two injured players, a backup CF that barely plays, and a $23.75 million dollar starter that most Sox fans want removed from the rotation already.

Nobody defended you more than me earlier in the season. I even made a thread about how you were owed apologies for being optimistic about this season and your win prediction. This has nothing to do with that though. You don't seem to be able to disconnect this trade from the team's record and Getz's other moves. I'm just not sure why you are so stubbornly ignoring reality here. The trade has been a disaster and Castillo has hurt the team. Can't we be honest that Getz/the team have had a hell of the year, but the Castillo acquisition has been AWFUL? We don't need to act like everything single Getz does is fantastic. We don't deserve anything because we criticize a move Getz made? 😂 C'mon man.
