  1. Welp....lets get this 2024 debacle started, I guess..

  2. Yes. The man who made his fortune first in real estate isn't looking to capitalize on the last great and empty piece of real estate in the downtown area to capture a piece the the latest and greatest trend in baseball revenue of the ballpark village in an effort to maximize cash flow and cram as much value into the franchise before he dies so as to top off his legacy buried in real estate and cash... Nah that doesn't sound like Jerry at all. It's not like he just stood up and tried to sell this exact program to the people and state government. Nope, the Sox aren't involved at all.

  3. They are both getting paid to talk baseball and don’t have to sit on the hot seat like a manager. Not a bad gig if you can get it.

  4. Y'all be writing that without realizing that this is the official policy of the White Sox. Both in game and front office.

  5. Well you see Jason Benetti was a real corny nerd and math is for nerds. Must rid the broadcast of anything with even an inkling of personality.

  6. I honestly don’t mean to be a dick, but please take a break from this website and discuss this subject with some real life people. You are struggling to accept the reality of this situation and now are just continually repeating your own made up narrative to appease your personal desires. Jerry Reinsdorf 100% wants to relocate to the south loop full stop…that was confirmed when he went to Springfield to make his case and when the team’s PR people started discussing their plans publicly. I do apologize for the hostility of my past interactions on this subject because I assumed you were just trolling, but at this point it seems like your inability to grasp the situation stems from something much deeper rooted and will require help from non SoxTalk posters to overcome.

  7. Take this for whatever it may be worth. Keith Law was on WGN-TV and he was asked how long before the White Sox will contend again. He said three to five years. He said the farm system was terrible and they are trying to improve it, he felt the Sox didn't get as much as they should have for Cease. He said part of the minor league system problem was Williams/Hahn was too conservative in their approach to the draft and this struck me, he said he hopes Getz would let the scouts do their job. Obviously a slap at Williams/Hahn. Also this little item from someone who covered the Sox this spring. They told me a month ago they were with a group of media types and said that it was remarkable the Sox found someone who was more arrogant that Rick Hahn. They were talking about Pedro Grifol. The person told me both Garfein and Merkin were upset that this person made that statement. 😃

  8. Great .......they kill you with their play on the field and no they want to kill you through diabetes

  9. You think a depth chart is going to stop Grifol from doing something stupid? Sheets is seeing RF again this season.

  10. I paid way too much attention to them in the spring and even I don't know who a few of those relief pitchers are...

  11. I find it hilarious that Merk felt the need to tweet this. Like, "guys, don't worry. They won't forget to do it before Opening Day."

  14. Honestly I feel the same way and this is my 64th as a Sox fan. They have drained a lot of the passion out of me the last few years.

  15. Bold predictions: Crochet pitchers three innings of scoreless ball Five relievers are used to complete the game Shaw is one of those relievers and gives up three runs Hill also gives up a run, but the other three are perfect Offense only scores one run on a Robert solo shot A base-running gaffe kills our best shot at a rally The defense makes a handful of nice plays Pedro says something really stupid during the post game

  17. It would be interesting to know if he really wants to or not. He seems like a sharp baseball guy.

  18. I don’t feel smarter than anyone and I don’t need experience to say what I’m saying. I just don’t understand how you refuse to acknowledge that Jerry Reinsdorf literally bussed his 90 year old ass to Springfield to campaign for the 78 site. Like now I think you’re simply trolling again. That being said, I would have happily bought you a beer and discussed further in person tomorrow, but unfortunately have kids spring break this week and am currently out of state.

  20. While he’s on the air, he should slam that new chocolate shake, get it all over himself, and give both Jerry and Brooks Boyer the double middle finger salute, just like this guy.

  22. This is basically how I feel about it. The existing 2% hotel tax isn't increasing and isn't going away regardless of what happens to the stadium proposals, so I don't see a negative impact on tourism and convention business. Does this mean I want the state to give JR a $1B blank check? Heck, no! If the McCaskeys can come up with $2B in private financing for their new stadium, why can't Uncle Jerry come up with at least a huge chunk of the $1B needed for his new stadium with private financing? Ultimately, I think there's a deal that can be done here for both projects and if so, that would mean two outstanding facilities and improved infrastructure for citizens to enjoy for decades to come and that'll help showcase Chicago as still one of America's premier cities instead of an image of a decaying, has-been city that doesn't think big anymore.

  23. Basically just shows he wasn't right last year and hopefully he can get back to where he was prior to the injury. edit: ah, I was a few bowls and beers in last night I should have said "has been better" yikes.

  25. Sheets and Benintendi were on State and Lake handing out free hot dogs at 10AM. https://chicago.suntimes.com/news/2024/03/27/free-hot-dogs-fans-white-sox-players-surprise-opening-day-baseball-2024 “Who doesn’t want a hot dog at 10 a.m.?” Sheets asked reporters Wednesday. All the free CPS tickets for the weekend and Monday have been claimed. Need to keep up these promotions especially geared toward kids and families to try to reclaim the next generation of city baseball fans.

  27. They are who we thought they were, 2 runs on 3-4 hits and 10+ K's from our batters. Crochet 3 IP max, doesn't look great. Bullpen throws 6+ meh innings. White Sox lose, ill go 6-2.

  28. I mean, I'm convinced that 2022's harbinger of doom was Giolito cruising...then getting hurt. Then bullpen holds steady until Bummer loads the bases. Liam comes in and can't get the out. Oh hey, Vaughn launches a homer! Victory is in sight. Liam gives up the lead again, but they get out of it...until Baez points out that Pollock let the ball bounced out of his glove, hit the wall and then back into his glove.

  29. Baltimore should be embarrassed. You have a team that already won 100 games and could really pave the way to a dynasty and you can't even spend 100 million on your payroll. Their cheap ways and hopes that every prospect works out for them is going to bite them in the ass.

  32. I moved back to Chicago 😁 But I personally don’t see much of a burden for Chicago & Illinois taxpayers. I don’t think a few % point of taxes on hotels has much meaning on travel considerations for tourists or conventioners for that matter. And subsidizing property taxes for major sports organizations that provide the area with jobs and other forms of tax revenue doesn’t seem that unreasonable to me. Honestly, I don’t think the state funding these stadiums via a hotel tax has any noticeable impact on the quality of any of our lives. But it would provide us with two much better stadiums / areas to watch and experience Chicago sports in for generations to come. To me, funding these are a no-brainer if they can agree to terms that are a bit more friendly to Illinois taxpayers than the past ones (for example, no free rent when attendance sucks). I’m less concerned about the billionaires receiving handouts because frankly that’s the status quo and I’m not drawing the line with my franchise.

  33. Thank you. Just to be clear, no treatment, I have Non-Hodgkin's, which isn't curable, but it's slow growth, and I'll most likely die of something else in 20-30 years. After my initial chemo 15 years ago, and radiation for a new tumor 3 years ago, it's just treated like a chronic condition. I get regular check-ups and scans, and COVID vaccinations every 2 months. I do have to be careful, as Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma is cancer of the immune system. But again, thank you for the well wishes. Watch out for night sweats, enduring cold/flu symptoms, or excessive fatigue. And if your 40, get a damned stress test, already. Medicine is your friend. Use it. Thanks. /soapbox

  34. I am excited about this - cause I can squint and see a future where new ownership is in place for the Sox with a state of the art stadium and finally I can have a positive view of this franchise again - at the same time - Bears should also have a state of the art franchise and are hopefully in the middle of an amazing run led by Caleb, Poles and company.

  39. Illinois vs. Iowa State. Holy bleep what a Sweet 16 game. I really like Underwood, but I picked ISU to reach the Final Four. I'd be shocked if this was not an incredibly competitive, sensational game. These teams have had sensational seasons. I dunno who will win. I'll stick with my ISU pick but the Illini are damn good.
