This team is dead in the water right now. Nobody is hitting. The pitching is starting to show cracks in the armor. You look at the bottom four in this lineup tonight and you have absolutely no threat offensively whatsoever.

The Sox have to be buyers by the deadline. They need a couple more bats and a strong middle reliever.

The bar for what they need to acquire isn't high. Just a couple of ~1.5-2 WAR guys to steady the ship so the lineup isn't filled with so many black holes would be enough to stabilize things.

Seriously? You think if Eloy, Robert, Madrigal, Engel, Kopech and Eaton were all, or mostly healthy this would still be happening?

It may not be happening if Tim, Yoan, Abreu, and Vaughn were hitting like they are capable of and Bummer/Marshall/Crochet were pitching like they are capable of.

They entered today with the 4th best record in baseball despite all of those injuries. I spent all off-season arguing with people on here that the Sox didn't have enough depth, but to act like that isn't a valid excuse for why the team is struggling is crazy.

I don’t think there are many teams that have the depth to overcome what the Sox are dealing with injury and under-performance wise. But its not like it happened overnight, they need to make a move to get better.

Okay, but the thing is, not every player is going to be good ALL season long. I remember Konerko saying that if you regularly have 3 good months in a baseball season, you are a good player.

The trick is to have enough players that can play at a high caliber level that can pick up the struggling guys.

BECAUSE of the injuries, almost half this  starting lineup regularly are AAA players...

They really need to do a serious assessment of what’s wrong with Abreu and whether Robert can come back at anywhere near 90%.

The Indians’ injuries won’t allow a White Flag season, nor can or should it, but it seems they’re just going to have to be satisfied with hopefully making the playoffs and then getting some reinforcements for 2022-23 simply by spending money, since trade capital is slim and none.

Burdi and Ruiz in the game do not help either. TLR threw the white flag early on this one.

At the same time, you can’t ignore the fact that so many Sox fans spent the offseason yelling “we have a ton of injury risks what are we going to do about having enough depth!!!!”
