Palacios was hurt so he moved Baldwin to RF and inserted Amaya for better defense.

Could have left Baldwin at short and put spare outfielder in RF...Taylor?

Or Workman in RF?

Workman at SS

2nd game this season the Sox had a lead in the 7th inning or later and lost.

It is what it is.

Situational hitting and an inability to get runners home with less than two out has been killing this team for years.

What was the purpose of putting a pinch runner for Quero if you were not going to try to steal second and stay out of the double play, which, by the way, did happen. Vaughn should have been given the take sign to allow for the steal.  With a runner on third, there’s a good chance the A’s wouldn’t even throw through!

Sox have now scored three runs or less in 21 of the 28 games played. That's 75%!

What really is frustrating to me is there seems to be no consequences for guys not being able to execute basic fundamental baseball plays with men in scoring position and less than two out.

No one is benched, sent back down to the minor leagues, DFA's for cast off's and has been's...nothing is done.

I don't even know if they work on situational hitting in pregame drills. If they do, I haven't read or seen anything about it.

I'm ready for a lineup of Baldwin, Beni, Quero, Elko, Sosa, Vargas, Fletcher, Workman, Taylor. Baldwin to six day a week super utility when Meidroth gets back. Robert can fill the Billy Hamilton role

I’m not sure Veneble was the right guy for manager, I  thought Sizemore deserved a shot at a full season after doing a half way decent job last year with basically a AAA team.

Robert has to play, plain and simple.

As long as he's 100% healthy, you have to wait/hope for a hot streak in May/June/July when there's more consistent weather every day that the majority of Cubans (seemingly) have enjoyed playing in more than Chicago Aprils (see Jose Abreu notoriously slow starts).

Even if Benintendi plays well...it's still going to be a payroll dump, with millions of dollars if not $10-15 million going in the other direction.

Between putting on contact play with Vaughn at third, Leasure and letting Amaya hit I'm starting to have my doubts about VenableI.

I said this when he names Burke as opening day starter. I thought that was crazy then, and Venable hasn't done anything to change my mind on that.

At least he had the creative idea for LH openers and was in a good position to win all three games on the road against a better team...Vaughn killed them today.

Just plug in a league average 1B and see what happens.

We'll be lucky to get Drury lol.

Two tough losses in the three game series. Does the fact the Sox have gone to openers mean the Sox starters are historically bad and can only go 3 max?

Bill Veeck would have a promotion where you could throw darts at Vaughn and the other slugs. Chris is almost like a s-x trader picking up bags of meet.

No, Greg, it only means Venable thought that negating the LHH hitters (6 of the first 7) with White Sox LH relievers was the wisest way not to get blown out early.

Burke Cannon Martin pitched exactly as many innings as they would have had they actually started those games.

There are always mistakes to ponder after a loss like this and this one is no exception.  Vaughn, Vargas, Venable, the third base coach and Quero for calling for a first pitch fastball against Urias.  The Sox should have known that Urias smokes high fastballs, and that was the one pitch he was looking for in that situation.  Some may recall Keith Hernandez admonition about throwing a fastball years ago. You just need to have situational awareness. Up by a run, throw anything but a high fastball in the zone.

I see. Thanks ... Interesting we have a smart manager who thinks of such things. Even my guy, Ozzie, wouldn't mess with such minutia. I like it. To Lip ... I haven't watched any games. Are they deathly boring compared to even last year cause of the 3-run stat you've mentioned?

Is Vaughn Cuban by any chance!
