LUIS ROBERT TRADED

Fielder Jones

So they should have just kept Robert then because the reallocation of this $20 million won’t be on anyone of significance.

At the very least, the Sox KNOW what they have been offered in the past, and what they have been offered if they were willing to kick in cash.  The Reds offer this winter, and the winter before this one, were significantly higher if the Sox kicked in some cash.  Literally we could have bought superior prospects from them. But that is a bridge too far.

I’m not disagreeing with you but then how does any of this make the Sox better?  There really isn’t an outfielder available that is better than Robert.  I guess you could argue Bader after last season but that isn’t likely to continue and I don’t see the Sox going after him.  Are they adding one of the top starting pitchers remaining, like a Bassitt?

Bader and Robert are a wash and I assume Bader won’t cost $20M AAV so I’d rather have him over the next two seasons.

Do we know what was really offered?  Not challenging just figure I missed it

This is easy. Robert won’t be on the next good Sox team. Acuna and Pauley might be. It’s that simple for me. No brainer.

In fairness, the Sox could have traded Robert for a 16 year old in the DSL and this statement would still hold true. It doesn’t mean that Acuna and Pauley are anything special though.

@Tony already posted the evidence on page 13 of this thread.  WE literally contorted his stance on the Robert trade discussions six ways from Sunday to put Getz in the best possible light each time.  If Getz ever runs for office, I know who he should hire as his campaign manager.

I still believe all of that, as evidenced by Getz holding onto Robert last TDL. I believe they wanted to trade him, but would have kept and played him if they couldn't get what they wanted. Acuña's been mentioned since last July, so maybe they finally decided to let him go.

I'll admit that my opinions are fluid as things change.

Eddy has told us there is no one off the board that the Sox would have been interested in.

Cedrick Mullins, Leody Taveras, Lane Thomas and JJ Bleday are the CFs who have been signed. Which one of those did the White Sox miss out on?

Missed that, glad he brought more than the one receipt I did. Eddy must be allergic to criticizing Getz and with the US healthcare system he can't get an epipen so he's playing it safe!

Wonder how much Getz was sweating after telling Jerry he could save him 2 million if he spent 20 million for a couple weeks. Guy probably threw a party when Tucker went to the Dodgers!

Give me something to criticize Getz for, and I'll do it. I'm not sure why I have to pretend that innocuous things are bad so I can be enraged.

I’m just gonna post this and leave it alone because I don’t want to sound like the board police or some kind of dickhead, but in my opinion the constant bickering and frankly childish posting is damaging what this place could be.

Every now and then you’ll see someone create a long, well thought out post and it’s quickly buried and forgotten by the same arguing in circles every thread. It isn’t a great way to encourage traffic from potentially new and informed posters. Again, in my opinion.

Anyways, we’re all cheering for the same team. Except caulfield, and he’s banned.

I'm sure I'm one of the worst ones.

Maybe I'm crazy but I don't think the trade sucks, because of how injured and bad Robert has been the last two seasons.

People are still thinking of him as the young player with potential rather than the 28 year old who has combined for 1.9 fWAR over the last two seasons. He sucks now, it is what it is.

Yeah, wish this was like all the other fan forums where people hold hands, agreed and shared incredibly valuable and predictive information and only that.

You posting this is like me telling someone they come off as abrasive online.

I will evaluate it on Robert's performance with the Mets.  I will be looking at it to see if this organization is truly baseball hell.

There are still good FA starters available but there is nothing but mostly mediocre to garbage FA outfielders remaining.  I don’t see the Sox signing Bader so Hays is probably the best remaining FA outfielder available.

I was poking Jerry and his tight-fisted ways.  Hays would be one of my position player targets at this point.

Everyone else that has left has been pretty much the exact same player.

"This is an easy concept to understand intuitively. I guarantee that you’ve done something similar in your life before. As a former markets guy, it feels to me like hanging on to a stock too long even as it keeps going down. When it’s at 80, you want 85 for it. When it’s at 60, you want 65. Pretty soon, it’s at 20 and you’re wondering if someone will pay you 18. Some of the rumored returns for Robert would dwarf what the Sox ultimately got for him, but they were playing a game of chicken with their potential trade suitors, and they lost."

from fangraphs article today on the trade.

Ex.Act.Ly!

What's crazy is I'm going to be looking for some Luis MVP odds if a book posts him outside of Other!

Will be hilarious when the Mets "fix" him and the mob starts to turn on MEME worthy Fuller!

The White Sox can't think too much of Pauley. He threw 4 innings after they passed him up 12 times.

Disagree. They obviously evaluated his stuff and like him.

I made this analogy a year ago, aka sunk cost fallacy

You run the risk of getting even less than this. Rental bats bring back nothing at the deadline.

I mean, I get that. I'm in the camp that this is better than buying out Robert. Getz clearly made a fine decision there. But the return is basically nothing. Neither of these guys are going to contribute to the next good Sox team. Acuna would highly likely have been DFA by NYM before opening day and Pauley is more or less just a guy and it would be amazing development if he ever even reached a 40 man roster.

I don't expect the Sox to be good next season, but they are considerably worse without Robert. I, for one, was looking forward to him having a smudge of protection and a watchable offense if he played well.

Kind of tells you everything you needed to know about what this organization has been about, and the fix was in.

I will even go out on a limb here.  If the Sox had a choice between the Japanese player and getting nothing for Robert, or no Murakami, but picking up cash to get a major return for Robert, with where the franchise is in 2026 and 2027, I take the later every time.  We are still no where near our window, and these deals in isolation don't help us get there.
