100% this. They’re not a good hitting lineup. Make them beat you with the bat.

Hope that built some confidence at least for facing Williams and Smith on Saturday. Maybe they're more confident on the road where they can set the tone in the top of the inning.

Find a way to get 27 outs out of Burke, Newcomb, and maybe Schultz and/or Sandlin. Don't ask Taylor for a long outing. Ideally score enough that you're not even tempted to.

Throw strikes to the Guards' noodle bats and make them actually earn their rallies. Stop flailing at high fastballs and make their pitchers earn their outs.

I want to see a win on Saturday, and I think they can pull it off. But watching a self-inflicted loss would sting more than anything, so at least make them actually beat you.

Besides Beni, they had good ABs against him. Teel's ball was hard hit and Braden's liner had a high xBA.

Given the state of the staff Will has nothing to lose by starting Burke and saying screw it, let him go as far as humanly possible Saturday.

I think they'll have an opener and then go to Burke in the 2nd or 3rd and hopefully he can go the distance or close to it.

I think it was dumb of CLE to burn almost 20 pitches out of Williams today. Pitching on one day's rest even with that amount at a minimum means he porlly can't go too long.

Please no

Those noodle bats have scored 18 runs in two games and Adell and Ramirez are red hot.

The majority of those 18 runs reached on free passes. There is no 6 run inning without handing them a bunch of free 90s.

Can Fedde pitch Saturday?

Newcomb opener. Burke bulk.

Have you been watching the Sox in the second half because this is normal

No

It is win or go home so I assume everyone is available

I think that's your general disposition to be fair

it actually isn't, to be fair, shitty baseball just angers me more than you because I care more

Can we challenge this?

Anybody have a replay of the play at 2nd? I wasn't paying full attention, but apparently Genao might have not touched the bag on the force out?

Wasn't the key to the game when Braden failed to come thru against the lefty with the bases loaded? Woulda been nice to bust a hit right there. How do you K against a lefty there??

It's bad karma starting Tommy Pham. Me not a fan of Pham.

Well, by Saturday my hope is the team returns to the lovable grinders they are and they pull out a win in game five. Cleveland has all the mojo and if the Sox win they are truly a team of destiny. I'm not a fan at all of using so many pitchers in a given game. I can't think of any scenario in which the Sox hold Cleveland to say, 1 or 2 runs on Saturday. That said I believe in the grinders. Hopefully Peters will inspire the team. He never should be off the field or out of the lineup. Go Sox.

Barely had it, worth challenging

Venable has challenged way dumber stuff in the playoffs. They had nothing to lose either.

Bet the house on the Guardians. Has greg applied a reverse curse? Go Sox but bet the former Tribe, the current Guardians.

Going back and watching the replay on the fly ball that Braden missed, it seemed like he got a decent jump on it, but got the angle wrong on the route so he kind of circled the ball instead of directly going for it. The positioning was odd too because Bazanna pulls the ball quite a bit and he was almost positioned in the RCF gap.

Nah, free fall since you started a game thread with a Cubs song.

Ah, a Ben Shapiro fan! Don't try to divert the blame from him.

They haven't allowed back to back games with 7+ free passes at any other point this season, and only 4 times total in the second half.

Getting hit is one thing, giving up 18 free baserunners in 18 innings is another.

And it was an inside fastball. Just a bad job all around on that

If he's the Sox fan he says he is, he should know you don't celebrate prematurely.

Greg, can you make the gamethread for the next game? I'm serious

They really gotta give pitch com to the outfielders.

That's what happens when the pitching staff is gassed and being held together by a binder clip and duct tape.

Sure would have been nice to try to help them out at the deadline wouldn't it? 😉

Yeah I don't think he touched the bag.
