  1. We are 3-0 since my son was born. I will start taking donations for any expenses to make sure it keeps going.

  2. Thru his first 40 major league at bats he’s hitting .400 and is .500 over his last 7 games... after being out of action for a month with an injured shoulder. However, according to some... he sucks and was a wasted 4th pick because his BABIP is high, slugging is low, his arm is weak, and his speed is overrated. I love this kid.

  3. I think you're overstating the words of many, to say the least. I do not think there was a widespread SoxTalk consensus that Madrigal "sucks". That's just massive hyperbole. I like Madrigal and liked the pick. I think he can be a rock solid 2B for years to come. That being said, he's played 11 games and has 41 PA's. I don't think I have to point out that hitting .400 isn't sustainable. The fascination that so many seem to have with small sample sizes when it suits their viewpoint never ceases to amaze me. For instance, if he was hitting .200 through 41 PA's. I'm sure you wouldn't accept the notion that those who feel contrary to you were correct in their assertion. The list of bad players to hit .400 for 11 games is endless. Let's see what happens when he goes through an inevitable struggle. Let's see his first 500-600 PA's, yeah? I mean, he hasn't done much to prove his critics wrong when it comes to what he "can't do". He has yet to notch an XBH and never walks. Maybe he can literally hit at a Tony Gwynn like clip, who knows? However, if he cannot (most likely outcome), he's going to have to develop some gap-to-gap power and walk some. If your response to this is "Jeez! He's only played 11 games and he's hitting .400! What more do you want?". Then, I appreciate you understanding the point I made above about small sample sizes and it being too early. The success or failure of positional player draft pick, trade, or free agent acquisitions are decide over hundreds upon hundreds of PA's (often over a thousand). At least, when it comes to those you've invested into long-term. Which, clearly, we have with Madrigal.

  4. One of the better lineups of the year imo.

  5. Huh? Everyone knows that. It's the rule for this year. You gotta be up by September 15th. That's not Vaughn, that's everyone. This is not insider knowledge. It's like tweeting "I have been informed that if kids want to dress up and get free candy, they must go around their neighborhood on October 31st."

  6. With a depleted bullpen I actually think that was a good managers job by Renteria. First time I think he actually got it right. Like ever. I have to give him credit because most of the time I think he is not very good. Keep it going boys.

  8. Really wish they would IL Yoan and just let him get as healthy as possible for the postseason. It’s not like he’s helping much as is.

  10. Remember when everyone was worried that RR would continue batting Abreu third in the order this year?

  11. The guy is on a roll. Why take him out? The Sox have 2 off days this week. I am sure he will be fine.

  12. Man I’m loving focusing on Major League Baseball but getting a prospect list* like this makes me miss getting 6 box scores a day and following these guys. *albeit one filled with guys I’m already able to watch up here

  13. Jesus people. He's had a few bad weeks. Relax. lol. Did he not have Post COVID Fatigue when he slashed .302/.371/.508 over the first 2.5 weeks of the season? The team has also publicly spoken about his leg injury and he's pulled up gimpy, gingerly, or favoring one leg while running a multitude of times. I'm going to go out on a MASSIVE limb here and say that is hard to play with. Moncada himself said that with returning from COVID - the problem was more so the prolonged inactivity and not having a chance to rev up for the season. Legs aren't in shape, etc. He looked pretty good earlier tonight. Had some good AB's and absolutely hammered a couple balls a little wide of the foul pole in right. It wouldn't shock me if starting tomorrow - it was his turn out of the guys to get extremely hot.

  14. Was torn between Tim and Jose, but the fact that Ron included Jose was the tiebreaker.

  15. Robert is so good I bet the Sox only need two outfielders out there at one time: Robert and Engel could cover the whole OF by themselves probably. Abreu is so good the guy on here that rips him can't possibly rip him again (I won't see if he does as I ignored him). Tim Anderson wracks up so many multi-hit games it's inconceivable. And Grandal is much better than some critics give him credit for. Also good pitching tonight. If Sox make the playoffs they should try and win it, outscore people. Just as the Twins make it every year and get beat by the Yankees, there's no law that says the Sox can't make it once in a blue moon and win it all as in '05. Don't rip me. I realize the Sox have major flaws and mainly have beaten up on horrific teams and could fall flat on their faces, but they also could stay hot and win it.

  16. The Cubs are in First Place but it seems like there is more buzz around the Chicago area about Robert, Eloy and the White Sox. Reinsdorf should be given great credit for signing Abreu to an extension when some people questioned that move. Abreu has not only played like an MVP, but he helped to recruit Robert and showed Moncada, Eloy and Robert how to conduct themselves on and off the field. The guy is a leader and so is TA. This team doesn't have selfish players, nut jobs, showboats and @holes on it. On the contrary the White Sox are one of the more likeable teams we have had on the South side since our 2005 WS team. Like the advertisement states - Good guys wear black.

  17. Timmy is the heart and soul of this team. Hopefully he’ll stop being so criminally underrated after this season

  19. How in the hell was he only a grade of 55 for defense? That was a "there's no way he can catch that ball...he did!!" moment. I love watching Robert play.

  21. I know RR won't do it and I know this is the 76th time I've said it, but McCann needs to play every day, whether it's C or DH. He is hitting the ball way too hard so consistently, especially vs LHP's, that it's asinine to not get him in there daily

  26. FWIW: Alex Mcrae is with the team on the traveling taxi squad. That's why he's the addition. They weren't going to fly a different guy to KC for 2 games when MCrae was already there.

  27. Stiever is fine. Putting him on the 40-man and burning an option is an issue though. He's not Rule 5 eligible until December of 2021 and he'll be starting in the minors next year. If they brought up Stiever to pitch out of the bullpen, he'd be in AA next year but on the 40-man prematurely. This stuff matters. Mcrae was with the team on the taxi squad which is why he is the choice.

  29. He’s had a couple bad errors that I’m sure he will clean up but I’m really impressed with how quickly he gets rid of the ball. It stands out especially when he turns double plays. His quick release makes up for his lack of arm strength.

  32. I don’t think Reinsdorf will spend money this off season. The only money he may spend will be on a closer. And that’s a maybe.

  33. It's been lasting for years. He's gotten the job done since he put on a Sox uniform. His whip was around 0.85 a couple nights ago. Hard to blow games when you give up one run in 13.2 innings. He has given up 2 homeruns in more than 75 innings with the Sox. Claiming the Sox are winning in spite of him is LUDICROUS. Sox infield had to put up a clown show for him to blow a game. Maybe we can clone Mariano Rivera and make you happy.

  39. For anyone who wants to read the article, I posted it today on my site: Here is a the link. Thanks to Soxtalk for allowing the sharing of links: https://www.ecopolibbling.com/post/launch-engel-to-the-rescue 2018: 2020: So yesterday when I was watching the game, and saw Engel raking, I decided I wanted to take a deep dive into the changes Engel has obviously made. I completely disregarded 2019. Why? Great question! I disregarded 2019 because as you can see from the picture below, Engel implemented a large leg kick before his swing. He actually started to make some of the good changes to his hands last year, but he didn't see much benefit because of the leg kick. BUT at the end of 2019, when Engel was recalled, he had kept the changes he made to his hands from 2018, but he ditched the leg kick. This led to a 778 OPS in September of last year: What does that mean? The big change, besides the fact that Engel no longer dips his bat head parallel to the ground as he did in the 3rd still above of 2018, his hand position at contact and after is another change. While these weren't identical pitches, you'll notice Engel's bat is less parallel to the ground at contact than it was in 2018, in addition at the point of contact and after Engel's hands lift towards the sky, as opposed to a the flatter follow through in 2018. This has led to a big change in Engel's launch angle this year: Engel's launch angle is up 6% from last year - to 17.1% - and 3% over his career average. In addition, Engel is has a career low GB rate at 30.4% (11% below his career average). Additionally, he's pulling the ball much more frequently - 54% vs 44% in career - as he has opened his stance a bit and stopped straightening his front leg on impact as much. By eliminating the leg kick and opening his stance, Engel has found a way to make more contact in general (up 3% over last year) a, but especially in the zone (up 10% from his career average to 91%) and that has led to a dramatic decline in Engel's strike out rate which is down to 21% from a career average hovering around 30. This has led to good numbers, as Engel has maximized his skill set to generate power to the pull side. While Engel still isn't crushing the baseball (exit velocity is actually down over last year), nor is he barreling everything up (only 1 barrel this season), the changes he has made is helping him maximize his skill set. While he has had some luck, his xBA is 285, his xSLG is .463 and his wxOBA is .343 which means even if things regress to his contact profile, he's still a better than league average hitter with elite defense. Publishing the full post/version of this on my Blog tomorrow likely if anyone does care to read it.

  40. GOD, no. Let's set aside that Mazara's supposedly an offense-first player that needs a platoon partner. The bigger issues are: 1. He cannot move his feet, which means his range in the OF is approximately the size of a phone booth; if he ever gets on base, the basepaths are constipated by a station-to-station slug. 2. This team already has a DH in LF; having 2 shitty OFers makes this fragile pitching staff's job harder. 3. His absolute ceiling in terms of fWAR is probably no higher than 1.0, which is pretty close to being replacement-level. [Because of his crippling handedness deficit and his inability to move his feet.] 4. As you mentioned, his Arb number is likely $6MM or higher. 5. Given what may likely be a depressed FA market this offseason, getting a cromulent 1.0 - 2.0 fWAR RFer will likely cost less than what Mazara will make in Arb. 6. This team likely will be in the heart of the competitive window. Waiting for a replacement level DH to figure out how to field, hit, and run is a complete waste of time, money, and resources. 7. [EDIT] Mazara has had some 2,200 PA at the MLB level. There just is no "figuring it out" after that many years and that many PA. He simply is what he is, PERIOD. In sum, what SHOULD happen is that Mazara is cut loose, because he sucks out loud at baseball. What PROBABLY will happen is that he will be retained, because of KW's and RH's fee-fees/egos, and JR's thrift.

  44. He is actually getting exposed to a lot more high level talent this way, and a lot less duds that he would have faced especially in A+ ball. Granted you can't simulate actual play, but he is seeing much better stuff this way.
