Ehh. Coaching most definitely. Talent-wise - I mean, they're good. But they're also pretty stop gappy and have very little pitching outside of Berrios. Buxton is really good when he's healthy. Rosario and Kepler are really nice OF. Sano is a great DH. Other than that - they're a giant pile of meh that has wildly overachieved this season.

They are a game up on Durham for the wild card with 4 games left. They still have a shot to catch Gwinnett for the division but that seems very unlikely now with their 5 game losing streak. I said it a week ago the Knights will make the playoffs barring an epic collapse. Well.... losing 5 straight you can say they're on the verge.

Notice what the Sox call them. INVESTORS. not owners. The sox are a hobby of a (now) very rich businessman. Yes, he wants them to win, but not at all costs. And always HIS way. Rick hopeless got the approval to rebuild because there’s a way to make money off cost certainty, even when fan revenue drops.

Every player gets that slack. Doesn't matter the team. My problem with Cease is that his AAA season wasn't exactly great either. He's going to have to prove he belongs next year, because Kopech will probably be up in May and Dunning could push him too. And of course, Rodon later on.

What is their to dispute. You've made your point 1000 times. We all understand your position and opinion. We all understand your expectations. What is the point in parroting them in every single thread. Here's exactly why it's over the top obnoxious at this point: You will never admit that the front office is changing. Despite rebuilding, increased spending on analytics, increased modernization of the organization and other new avenues they have entered. When the Sox offer 250+ million to someone, and finish second, you cite that as a fact that the White Sox arent serious about spending and investing in this core. You are basically implying that the offer was fake and they knew it wouldn't be accepted; so you're stating that the White Sox put in all those hours knowing it wouldn't get done just so they could say they tried. Zero big businesses operate that way, period. They showed a willingness to spend A LOT of money on a premium talent - something they hadn't shown in their franchises history. You cite that failure as proof they haven't changed despite it being proof of the contrary opinion. I already see this offseason and your responses Sox go out and spend 200-300 million this off season on 2-3 players but they don't sign Cole. You'll use that as proof of your assumption that this team can't get the mega deals done. They could sign the 2nd, 3rd and 4th best FA's on the market and you'll be parroting how they once again missed out on the top free agent. This is why there's no point in giving your posts any credence, because they're not tied to logic at all and are based on an abnormal and irrational amount of hate and anger towards a baseball team you're supposedly a fan of. Its outrageous.

I imagine that would be buying out quite a few FA years. 10 years 180 wouldn't really be a similar extension - you'd have to guarantee more for the additional free agent years. If its 6-7 years and 180 then yes, that would change the extension expectations throughout baseball by quite a bit.

I'm not sure this is unique to Abreu or not, but you can look at traditional stats and see that he is pretty good, and you can look at advanced stats and convince yourself that he's not very good. The Sox have score 549 runs this year, and Jose has driven in 100 of them. That's 18.2% of the runs. The player with the next most RBIs is Moncada with 63. His WAR is 1.4. I'd argue that's low only because without him, the Sox would have had to rely on others to score those 100 runs. Without those 100 runs, the Sox would have lost more than they have...a lot more. Maybe it's more of a fact that Jose truly is more valuable to the Sox than he would be to another team. On the Twins, who seem to hit every baseball out of the park, they have no one with more than 86 RBIs. But they have 5 players with more RBIs than anyone else other than Jose. So, for a team like the Sox who struggle to score runs (and give up a shitload), a guy like Jose is really valuable. So, all of my above ramblings lead to me believing that Jose is better than he's given credit for, due in large part to the team he plays for. Because the Sox give up so many runs and don't have a lot of offensive punch aside from a couple guys, someone who drives in nearly 20% of the team's runs is pretty damn important. How important would he be on a team team with Robert, Madrigal, a more improved Moncada, an improved Jimenez, and a more consistent Anderson? I'd argue he'd still be important, but he won't be the best hitter on the team and probably won't be driving in the most runs. I still believe he's valuable to this team for a couple more years, especially considering he most likely won't cost a lot.

Gennett is fine to replace Yolmer and at least offers some upside...but these last few pages read like 2014~16 mode. We had four core players...traded away young talent and got exactly nowhere with the likes of Robertson and Frazier. It even feels like Shark back then was a bigger move than anyone but Cole Strasburg Wheeler and Bumgarner this time around. And that bullpen still is shaky as long as they can't rely at all on Herrera.

The Abreu hatred is so strange. He's a really good hitter, who has played in a terrible lineup most of his career. I would also like to see what his career numbers look like with some protection. There are much bigger problems on this roster than Jose. Everyone knows he's pretty bad defensively, but he plays first base......

Speculating about JR selling the White Sox is about the same as speculating about the team landing a high-profile free agent: a waste of time.

On Friday, the oakland fand were many and louder than the Sox fans. I don't know if it would've been different had the score not been so lopsided, but if I were playing for Oakland I'd be very happy to have such a loyal fanbase, hearing my name being cheered for in other cities, especially ones as far away as Chicago. The fans were noisy, but it wasn't annoying at all, just showing their loyalty and enthusiasm for their team. The only thing that is going to turn our park lively again is winning. Not drums, not chants. Winning. The rest will follow.
