If the Sox are trying to win this year they should not be playing service time games and Sox fans arguing otherwise in a tight division race are hilarious to me.

This, hard to compare the numbers cleanly. 4. People with mild symptoms can almost certainly still transmit the virus, so we can’t just say that having the vaccine means you are perfectly in the clear to go around maskless until everyone around you also has had the vaccine. If you have the vaccine then go to a lot of restaurants maskless because you’re safe, your chances of picking the virus up rise, and if the rest of your household is unvaccinated, you could create an easy cluster, undermining the effect of the vaccine. 5. All 3 of these existing and being produced in enough volume for everyone in 15 months after this starts is a fucking triumph of science. 6. Get whatever shot in your arm as soon as you can. 7. One of the last remaining risks is that because vaccines are out and cases are coming down after XMas, states will open things up, declare masks unnecessary, enough people will refuse the vaccine or be unable to get it to allow the virus to continue circulating, and we will combine and evolve the current variants out there into something that is strongly resistant and easily transmitted. Doing things like that at a government level is like hanging 3 straight curveballs to Abreu, you are just hoping nothing bad happens. Batted ball quality is definitely already off the charts and the scary thing is that there is more in the tank with a little higher launch angle and pull rate. If he is a 40 Homer guy like this a bit of optimization could make him a 50 plus bomb guy. On the flip side his plate discipline of course still is below average in both walks and strikeout department. Would be good if he improved that but even if not his batted ball quality is good enough to compensate.

Im also always going to be pro labor, but even beyond that it would be idiotic to potentially lose a chance at the playoffs getting cute with service time.

I honestly just don't understand the logic of it. This team could be bad in 6 years, they could have a new owner in 6 years, I have no idea and nobody else does either. What I do know is that they're a legit division contender this season who is going to be in a battle all year to win the thing. Those extra games could absolutely be the difference between making the playoffs and not. Put your best damn team on the field from day 1 and don't worry about the service time bullshit.

This is nonsense. Don't have Hahn tell me they're "All in" for "Multiple World Series Championships", and dick around with service time games which may not even matter with the new CBA, especially in light of the fact the AAA season has been pushed to May at this point, may be pushed yet again. Talking about Vaughn, not Kopech. Kopech should be kept back not for service time games, but to build up his arm as a starter, not another La Russa Bullpen Boy Toy.

The only comparable “sure thing” talents Sox have had any time recently are Eloy, Moncada and Robert none of whom appear to be busts. Trying to think who you could be thinking of...Beckham? He was a high end prospect but I think a notch below. I just have a hard time imagining Vaughn busting. He’s basically everything you’d want in a hitter. Being nice to Vaughn isn’t going to change the situation for him. If you want an extension, you need to offer him a fair deal that makes sense for him to take.

I just keep think of how this was the year that the Cubs fought so hard to keep Kris Bryant for. If he can help win now, I'd rather get the good will and keep a happy clubhouse culture in place. You look even better in light of places like the Cubs and Seattle

Vaughn definitely looks ready, he doesn't chase and is on time when he gets a fat one like in this Homer. I still think they should keep him down those two weeks, if they can't survive two weeks of Collins or Mercedes at DH they weren't ready anyway. I once did the math and even having a 70 wrc+ guy at DH for two weeks only costs like. 3 war assuming Vaughn is a 3 war player which is optimistic (I would be fine if Vaughn is a 110 wrc+/1.5 war DH his first season). So we are talking trading 0.3 wins for 3 future wins, I. E a net gain of 2.7 wins. Easy choice.

I'm in the camp of Vaughn needs to be the starting DH on Opening Day. 1) Sox didn't acquire anybody else to be the DH so there's a hole in the lineup for the first two weeks without him and the Sox need to win every game they can 2) Either due to a CBA change or a contract extension, there's a good chance the service time issue will go away anyway

Vaughn was never likely to be traded in the first place with Abreu likely due for a decline over these next couple of seasons.

Huge difference between 50% in a bar, and 50% in a 40,000 seat stadium. 20,000 vectors from the entire region convening for 3 hours on a daily basis can blow up COVID issues very fast. Sometime this Summer is a safer bet for an initial roll out of up to 25% capacity.

There's no doubt Vaughn is ready. I wish Jose would have kept his damn mouth shut, because this just adds more pressure onto the FO to not play service time games with Vaughn. We need that extra year. Sox fans have been waiting for one of those players that just mashes from the start. Robert had a great season, but fell off big time at the end. Vaughn is going to be that dude who mashes from the get go. Can't wait for him to get the call. Will he be up right after they get the extra year, or after the super 2 deadline?

That's just it, there isn't enough pitchers. They're doing their best to deal with covid. So many of these pitchers haven't pitched competitively in 2 years and since then have probably not really thrown that much compared to a normal season; majors or minors. As guys get more innings and/or toss sessions, it'll smooth out.

$18M+ for four years on a $125M payroll team in his declining age 30s seasons? Especially with greater needs in RF and SP the past two years and beyond, and the restrictions that contract puts on future teams? Hard pass on Grandal, the conclusion of 29 other teams with that length and dollars. Definitely a head-scratcher deal to be the "biggest contract in club history".

I don’t care about the gambling aspect, but there should be enough pitchers there to play an uninterrupted 7-inning game the first week of games. I saw highlights of a game where the inning ended after 22 pitches and the same pitcher went out the next inning. The fans that are there deserve to see an honest effort even if it doesn’t matter.

Managers have slotted scheduled innings for select pitchers for the game. Teams don't have several pitchers in a bullpen available. I don't agree with the changes to the 2021 regular season in terms of 7 inning Doubleheader Games and runners on 2nd in extras. Made sense last year, doesn't this year. Was also a major reason I was vehemently opposed to the Owner's proposal to start the season in May with a bunch of bullshit scheduled 7 inning doubleheader games, not to mention unscheduled doubleheaders for rain outs and possible COVID cancellations, to reach 154 games. That said, they can and should do whatever is best to prepare the team for Spring Training, and not stretching pitchers beyond 25 pitches in an inning makes sense for the purpose of these games, which is to get pitchers stretched for the season, get hitters timing back and evaluate a few players. They are not for fans or wagering.

Except its not mid-may. Its like April 20th. We're talking about 15 games. The AAA season getting delayed doesn't make it any easier, though. Ultimately, if Vaughn is on the OD roster, I am not going to be up in arms. I just think its shortsighted.

I would be surprised if the Sox extended Lynn, and frankly, I hope they don't. Sucks he only has 1 year of control and that is exactly why I didn't like the trade. Hopefully we get the 19-20 version of Lynn!

I almost wonder if you just plan on aisle vendors? Keep people in their seats. I think baseball is one of the biggest no brainers for fans, I just think it being outdoors, easier to keep attendance in check while it still making sense to have fans, and less of a "scream to make noise" event. But the only place I really worry about are bathrooms and the kitchens/gate vendors. If sox have really improved ventilation/air filtration then I honestly think the mayor/governor are just dealing with how knee jerk people (themselves included) are about people gathering in large numbers on tv even though this is much safer than the 50% indoor capacity and bars being allowed open until 1 am.

He's already set for life if you put things in perspective / spend money wisely. It's about whether or not he'd be set up for his children's lives.

You may think that the Sox are the cheapest organization in the history of professional sports but they have not played the service time game. They brought up Kopech when they had zero reason to. I am not certain how Crochet works with his limited time but if that clock is ticking there is another one. I think they sign him long term once things normalize....then I think they look at Lynn and Gio.
