Literally nothing. Only thing we learned last night was that many at Soxtalk are back in regular season form and drawing vast conclusions from a singular baseball game that means next to nothing in regards to how good or bad any player or team are. It's great to have baseball back!13 points

This is correct. Manfred caved based on Democrat disinformation talking points. There is nothing racist about requiring ID to vote.11 points

Election integrity is a big issue in this country, especially since we have 50 states + DC, all with their own independent election laws. Both the 2016 and 2020 Elections were publicly questioned, whether it was Democrats claiming Trump worked with Russia in 2016 or in 2020 the claims from Trump's side claiming fraud with mail-in ballots and electronic voting devices. I see this bill as a measure to secure elections in the US. Voter ID laws, despite claims of the left, are not "voter suppression". The MLB is free to do as they choose but this is similar to the NBA overreacting to bathroom laws in NC a few years ago. These leagues typically cave to public pressure, and quite frankly, so do most public figures who get caught in some sort up political windstorm. Delta, for example, requires ID to board a plane but their chairman seems to have an issue with voters being required to provide ID. Go Figure. Unfortunately, this is the way of our country in 2021, but so be it.11 points

Making it illegal to provide food and water to voters in line has nothing to do with showing an ID. Nor does limiting drop boxes, making it harder to do absentee voting...the list goes on and on. This is a restrictive voting law.10 points

It's only voter suppression because the democrats and the media told you it was. There is no voter suppression in the bill.9 points

For some communities the nearest DMV can be an hour drive away and only open during working hours and if you don't own a car you're basically out of luck if you want to get an ID. If you're so concerned about "election integrity" then push for a free ID to be given upon registration and make voter registration automatic.8 points

No. Everyone in the game thread last night was almost unanimous that pulling Gio at that time was the right call, and something Gio wouldn't have done. Leury batting 6th and playing Opening Day was a valid question and he didn't do anything to prove TLR right. On the flip side, Eaton had a huge night. Most agreed Bummer got a raw deal last night and the defense let him down. It's one game. But a team with World Series aspirations needs to win those games on most nights. Especailly when the rotation has question marks at #4 and #5, you need to win the starts Gio leaves with a lead.8 points

Say what you want about Eaton, but TLR absolutely made the right call with Foster and that is so refreshing7 points

This is statistically and categorically false. Any restriction placed on voting requirements limits turnout. The poor, rural and minorities communities are the ones who suffer the most from this suppression. Voting fraud has no direct correlation to ease of voting laws. Delta requires an ID to board a plane because they're a private company. Not a country that is supposed to provide the right to vote as a basic human right but DOES NOT provide an ID as a basic human right. Glad I could help.7 points

Meh. I agree 1 game overreactions aren't fair but Madrigal's defense is becoming a pattern. This was supposed to be a pro-ready draft pick who could run the bases, play defense, and hit for average. So far he hasn't shown any ability to run the bases or play defense. Still rooting for the kid, obviously, but I just don't think he's as good as many thought on draft day.6 points

Both Bummer and Foster have pitched us out of jams in the first two games and both times the defense has given the pitcher the middle finger.5 points

Obviously on subject and important, but starting this with a warning to make sure posts in this thread follow the forum rules.5 points

Good news. It's a shame for the city of Atlanta, but it's the right thing to do. MLB says they are already working on an alternate city. It'll be interesting to see where it lands.5 points

Yeah in his first game in an MLB stadium populated with fans he rushed a turn.5 points

That was a great game thread. Gio was pitching great and a lot of people were loving it . At the end if was a typical game thread but that's to be expected. Even if you have stuck up for Madrigal you have to be disappointed in the guy. Turns out Leury did nothing to make anyone believe he should be batting 6th from the left side. There were a few Collins haters but it wasn't too bad. I think most are OK with him, showing he can make more contact and he'll show power and get walks. Ragah you'd be a lot better off if you just talked baseball and left the social commentary and the "poor me" I'm always getting attacked thing at home. Everyone knows game threads are hotbeds of meatball comments but yesterdays was mild and a lot of funny stuff was said. Obviously it's in your nature to argue but once you start arguing about how other people argue like they aren't following some crazy argument rules it gets pretty bad. No one follows rules. We take potshots, use sarcasm, insult. You really need to just let it go . I can see getting into extended arguments once in a while but you do it all the time. Learn to let go. So what if you think someone is being illogical or their analogies suck. After a couple of exchanges just say "this is getting nowhere" and just stop or agree to disagree. You also put yourself on a pedestal like you are better than others. That never goes over very well. Just sayin' bro a look in the mirror once in a while helps and that goes for everyone .5 points

It seems like Bohm could make 40+ errors for the Phillies too, but man does that Kelenic miss (from Wisconsin of all places) hurt even more right now. It’s not like we were 100% set in future MLB outfields at the time, and having the tools to play an above average CF made (and make him) 5-10x more valuable than Madrigal. I liked the pick at the time, have defended him pretty consistently...but that’s just a simple play that needs to be made. Take your time, don’t rush, know that you’re not going to get a faster than average LH hitter in Ohtani at first no matter what happens at second.5 points

I didn’t check out the game thread yet. Let’s see...”Madrigal sucks, Leury batting 6th, WTF is Eaton doing hitting 2nd...oh wait...well I mean cool he basically won the game with that homer but still, WTF pulling Gio for Heuer look at what’s happening...oh wait well TLR got lucky there, F this TLR didn’t teach them any defensive discipline in ST, JERRYYYY FU!!!!!!” That about right? That 8th defensively was brutal. Unlucky to start and then Madrigal woof. Clean it up boys.5 points

The troubling part about Madrigal to me is that there is just not one single thing about baseball that looks easy to him. None. It looks like he struggles to run for his size. Has a terrible batting stand and swing to go with it. Throws awful. Pop ups feel adventurous like the one tonight. Makes dumb decisions. WTF did every scout see here?5 points

Ummm...guys, might want to think about an insurance run or two here with the top of the line-up. Because you just know the extra batter that Moncada brought up is going to ensure Trout somehow comes up again in the bottom of the 9th.4 points

This. The city of Atlanta leans left, anyway. It doesn't feel right penalizing the people of Atlanta for what the republican legislature and governor passed. The Georgians outside of Atlanta probably don't give a damn whether it gets the all-star game or not.4 points

I don't understand why people are already starting with the bitching. Let's give a history of Yasmani Grandal on Soxtalk. 2019, Sox sign James McCann. Soxtalk: WTF? We have Narvaez and Kevan Smith, why sign this bum. If you're going to sign a catcher, sign Grandal. 2020 Sox sign Grandal. Soxtalk: WTF? We have James McCann. Now Grandal can't do anything right. Of course Gio didn't pitch too badly with Grandal catching, something Soxtalk was silent about. If you recall, Gio can't pitch to Grandal. Madrigal made a bad throw. It cost the Sox the game. We didn't learn anything. Soxtalk has always wondered how the career .340 hitter is on the team. Leury is great, until he goes 0-4, then he should no longer be on a major league field. At least Adam Eaton, who has no power, and bat is so slow, he looks like he's 50 years old, hit a homer. And as I predicted when he got hired, the HOFer baseball person got criticized game one. He doesn't know as much as a message board poster.4 points

Madrigal was called out to end the 7th inning. The play was close, but several people on one replay said that the tag probably got his shirt. So, maybe a 1% chance the call gets overturned, but still ? should have been challenged. The replay booth did not get a note to LaRussa saying that they should challenge in time. Tony LaRussa was not either paying enough attention to the game or did not know the rules well enough to know that the challenges go away in the 8th inning. This, there was zero downside to challenging and it should have been done, there’s nothing to save it for!!! This probably didn’t cost the game, but a slightly better chance of a RISP with Anderson up might have still given a chance at an insurance run. Although they couldn’t figure out the replay system in Arizona, the White Sox excuse machine was in high gear, as LaRussa informed the press after the game that they didn’t get the review notice down in time because they lowered the time to 20 seconds this year rather than 30 last year. Of course, this should not have mattered because LaRussa should have been paying attention to the game anyway, they had 6 weeks in Arizona to practice this and screwed it up the first time, and “this is tougher than it was last year” is an exceptionally odd excuse coming from a guy who wasn’t coaching last year. It didn’t cost the game, but it’s a (chefs kiss) of ineptitude right out of the gate.4 points

he is young and there is plenty of time.. but so far nick madrigal appears to lack anything it takes to produce winning baseball. he has no power,.... he is small and slow... and then the worse thing is - to this point his defense is a liablity. i mean seriously what the fuck?4 points

Grandal lost a lot of strikes last night and you saw a lot of that last season? LOL Grandal was a top 4 framer last year by literally every metric that exists and is the best framer in the game on a consistent basis. I honestly think people are just willfully delusional regarding Grandal and slander the guy just for fun.3 points
-
I didn't learn this, but I was sadly reminded of the stiff Grandal is on defense behind the dish. He lost a lot of strikes last night not only to a blind umpire but his exaggerated set up on the RH Batter's Box. Saw a lot of that last season. While "the computer" keeps calling him a great framer, please stop stealing strikes away from your pitchers by giving away the other corner.3 points
