  1. Tonight's the last late game for 5 months.

  2. Look, Madrigal has been bad. But if you’re already at ‘it’s time to cut bait and bring in ROUGNED ODOR’ you need to step off the ledge.

  8. Ruben might be a better defender than Madrigal

  10. Young players especially with less than half a season under their belt in teams with high expectations tend to do that.

  11. Madrigal now owns the second highest batting average in the lineup at .235

  13. Even when Moncada's struggling, the walks are going to be there and the OBP will be respectable.

  14. Dude, we all want Robert to be a monster. He has the ability to be one of the very best players in the game for a very long time. But he's looked terrible at the plate in this admittedly very small sample size. 1 or 2 barrels in 20 AB isn't exactly impressive. He literally has no approach at the plate. Its just go up there and hack at 3 pitches and pray to make contact. He's taken 2 walks, both of which were impressive, but that's about the most impressive thing we've seen at the plate from him through 22 PA. I think (hope) he'll make the necessary adjustments and turn into a really good hitter. Hopefully this season. But to say he's had an improved approach so far in 2020 exhibits that you've either watched very few of his ABs this year, or simply don't understand what you're watching.

  15. Nah this got put on the thread of people with eyes. Had a barrel last night at 105+ but was unlucky where he hit it, and a walk. If you guys don’t see improvement that’s a you issue

  16. Scheduled for first dose on Friday. Easter morning at about 6 was a bonanza, prior to that I was looking at driving to Rockford (I'm in Villa Park), but ended up with several options that morning much closer, got a Downers Walgreens.

  19. At this rate we should just send guys home from 3rd on doubles cause we ain't getting them in anyhow.

  20. Collins, vaughn and Madrigal all had a bad inning...and all have basically offensively redeemed themselves. Love that for rookies

  21. Madrigal can't steal a base to stay out of the force/double play. Station to station singles hitter is not a productive player.

  22. LOL my buddy and I had that conversation yesterday about his face. He looks 35. He would have fit in well in the 90s with Karkovice.

  25. The overlooked aspect of Robert’s decline last year wasn’t just due to chasing bad pitches, it’s that he couldn’t hit fastballs either.

  29. Dude, I’m calling on Grandal to at least hit today, not sit at both C and DH. Grandal may not be physically able to catch three days straight now, perhaps this is his routine for an extended period to keep him fresh. Mercedes played well behind the plate this Spring, if you’re keeping his bat in the lineup, let him catch and Grandal DH, Collins plays with his platoon advantage tomorrow and Mercedes can rest tomorrow after catching and with a RHP on the mound. Its smart both short term and for the long term once you get your ML roster players back and want a two catcher situation.

  31. With a lefty tonight and righty tomorrow (and day game), Grandal tonight and Collins tomorrow makes more sense.

  33. I think the real take away is that he has been able to have a moderate level of production while having a pretty terrible approach.

  37. Anybody notice how with 2 strikes, Yermin will completely eliminate his leg kick or "loading" mechanism, whatever you want to call it. His front leg didn't move at all there, but he was still able to get enough power to crush the ball. Pretty impressive. Leg kick with 1 strike Loading with 2 strikes. Still more loading than in the video if the homerun.

  39. 9/29/2014- The Baltimore Orioles have acquired the rights to Yermin Mercedes from the White Sands Pupfish. Mercedes split the year between Douglas and White Sands in 2014. Ryan Powell, The Baltimore Orioles Independent League Scouting Director is no stranger to the Pecos League. He managed Carlsbad in 2011 and in Trinidad for 2012. "It is great to sign a player from the Pecos League. The Pecos League continues improve every year and has quality players. We look forward to having Yermin." says Powell. "Yermin was the best player in the Pecos League" says Sean Wolfson Pecos League Umpire. "If Yermin wasn't going to get signed then no one is going to get signed. He can flat out at hit. " says White Sands Manager Darrell Carrillo. Mercedes is represented by Toro Sports Agency out of Pensacola Florida.

  44. Madrigal figured out he won’t get criticized for his base running if he makes more outs at the plate.

  45. Thinking this way completely ignores how teams the Sox should be comparing themselves with (Dodgers, Yankees, Twins, Rays, Padres etc) have been building their team over the past few years. You can't do this in every area, but the goal should be to have more quality players than spots. The Padres have arguably the best SS in the game and they had another player in Jake Cronenworth who easily could have been slotted in at 2B without anyone batting an eye. What did they do? Sign Jurickson Profar and Kim Ha-Seong, two players who both project to be average or better SS but also give them positional versatility all across the diamond. Before anyone says Leury Garcia is an equivalent of that player, Profar was worth more WAR in 56 games last year than Leury has in his entire career. Obviously it's impossible for any team to have ~30 players on the level of TA or Eloy, but 3 injuries (counting Engel) should not lead to a contending team relying on replacement level Billy Hamilton 5 days into the season. Also just wish casting good health on all of your best players is not reasonable The average team uses something like 10 starting pitchers in a given season. Just focusing on the Sox infield for a moment, TA has been on the IL two consecutive years prior to this one, Moncada has dealt with reoccurring hamstring issues in the past and how he'd bounce back from covid was a legitimate question, and Madrigal had major shoulder surgery in the off-season. It wasn't realistic AT ALL to expect all 3 of those guys to play 150 games this season. Adam Eaton had 1 season of more than 100 games while in Washington, Eloy was hurt 3 different times last year, and on down the line it goes. Of course you can do this with almost every player on every team. Guys who play 150 games annually are the exception, not the rule. The lack of depth the Sox had behind all of these players was obvious all winter which is why so many people spent the off-season harping on it begin a major point of concern.
