  1. The cutoff for savage is .875. He's slightly below savage unfortunately.

  3. Fun update: settings have been changed to allow posters to see who reacted to their post and with what. A reminder that all reactions are a positive +1 on the reputation scoreboard. For now, the laugh emoji is still there, but if certain sensitive sammies try to start bar fights over it, it will be removed. Contrary to some notions, this was never enabled except to mods. But we are bringing you knowledge of how fire is made, may you use it for only good.

  4. OR Schwarber at DH, trade Vaughn for a young RF and go after Max.

  8. If we put Max in the front of our rotation, I am fully OK with us dumpster diving for RF and 2B.

  11. Reynolds was the one I was thinking of. Sox would have to add a few prospects also it would seem. I would do it.

  12. I mean, Conforto is career .873 vs righties, so does that qualify as savage?

  13. Why is Conforto unlikely to come here?

  14. 3 WAR for Anderson and Moncada is pretty low considering both had meh years on offense last year and still ended up at 4.5 WAR.

  15. In what world would one year of Chris Bassitt cost Vaughn or Jimenez?

  16. Interesting takeaways/projections, to me ZIPS loves Jake Burger. It's particularly optimistic about his defense, but he has the 6th highest WAR projection amongst position players in the org. ZIPS does not love Eloy and Vaughn. Both have startling projections. ZIPS projects Jose Rodriguez and Yolbert Sanchez as equivalent's for 2022 Leury Garcia. ZIPS projects Carlos Perez better than Seby/Collins. If another team has a similar internal projection/positive scouting report on him, I could see Perez being rule 5'd. ZIPS believes there's more left in the tank for Keuchel as a back end SP. ZIPS believes Cease's breakout was legit and that he's the 2nd best SP on the team. ZIPS doesn't believe Kimbrel is a special reliever anymore. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/2022-zips-projections-chicago-white-sox/

  18. Way, way too early in the offseason but had a few cocktails...my betting right now would be Conforto and Segura in RF and 2nd and Vaughn has played his last game for us. Hopefully a stud Starter is had for Vaughn. Maybe out of Miami. Again, very early.

  19. It’s only relevant because it shows Reinsdorf doesn’t have a precedent against it. We know he doesn’t like super long deals in general (see Machado capping out at eight years) and in particular for pitchers. But I think on shorter term deals he’s willing to go really high on an AAV basis. Just depends if he would do that for an aging pitcher, which obviously remains to be seen.

  20. There couldn't be a worse reason to not make a trade. If he is scared, he needs to find a new job.

  21. I can live with it if our rotation is Scherzer, Giolito, Lynn, Cease, & Kopech.

  22. I don't see the players or prospects in the organization to win a bidding war for Reynolds. Would Crochet, Burger/Jose Rodriguez, and one of the Kanny pitchers be enough to get it done? Would the Sox want to deal Crochet when he's such a vital part of the pitching staff? He seems like a tough guy for the Sox to acquire, but I'd love to see it happen.

  27. If that's going to be the attitude, then the White Sox's roster is on the field.

  28. Oh, gotchu. I should have looked closer at the graph. Thank you. On the actual projection tables in the link Cease is projected with a higher WAR than Lynn.

  29. If the numbers you posted on the image are to be believed Cease is behind Giolito and Lynn which would make him 3rd. You said 2nd.

  30. 2 years 17M with a club option for year 3 feels like it'll be right around what it takes to sign Tepera.

  31. But the point is - they have parts - and if in 2 years Fields hasn't panned out - they have massive cap space and tons of draft capital to swing again and the next new QB would be in an even better spot again at that point. And Kmet is not mediocre - he put up 4 straight games (until this week when for whatever reason the game plan went away from the TE) where he put up very solid numbers all while being a special blocker. Is he a top 3 TE in this league, no, but he can be a Kyle Rudolph type of TE and that is pretty valuable. Montgomery may not be elite - but he has been pretty impressive at putting up yards going back to 2nd half of last season. Herbert is solid too. That is a good thing for a young QB and they are affordable. I agree RB's are a dime and dozen but having a quality one is still nice. I'm not guaranteeing anything - but when people act like the Bears are 5 years away or that Pace went for it all this year (like this year had to be a playoff or bust year) - that is just crazy talk. 1 - the NFL is a 1/2 year window to rebuild anyway (you can turn over an entire roster in basically 2 years with a good front office, right moves, and right coaching). But I am high on Fields - not saying it is a slam dunk, cause there are issues/real reasons to be concerned. But I have seen a lot of special and I think he has the right mental fortitude, leadership, etc to overcome some limitations that I don't think he will ever truly overcome. I don't think he will ever be a guy that drops back and just dices up a defense with quick release throws...but his athleticism, poise, leadership and downfield play making ability, combined with his ability to force defenses to have to defend his legs (which helps free up options downfield) will more than make up from it.

  32. According to THIS, if he does not sign before 12/1, his 30 day window would be "paused" until the CBA gets worked out.

  33. They would have to include a really good second player. Dombrowski was at the game too. My guess is he's either eyeing him up to play 2B/SS this year or if he's under direction to win now at all costs move him for a big time dude like Buxton.

  34. Maybe the White Sox will do the smart thing with the new budget news, eat some salary and get a legitimate prospect or two. That won't help the old men in the room but will replenish what was lost on this trade.

  36. My understanding is that the Phillies are trying to compete, so I question as to why Philadelphia would blow a hole in their MLB roster in exchange for Kimbrel. A quick glance at their MiLB depth chart shows that they have a couple 'spects that had their first cups of coffee @ AAA in 2021, but I don't know if Phila believe in them or not. I guess I dont see the motivation for Philadelphia to give up Segura, if they don't have alternative options at the position.

  37. Honestly, Segura fits right in with this team's philosophy on offense. He hits the ball on the ground over half the time.

  38. Hmm, interesting enough I think ZiPs will see any offseason moves as mostly neutral. It clearly likes Kimbrel still, and 2 for Keuchel is pretty good. I think it will be hard to get more than 2.5 projected WAR at 2nd base, which is only a modest improvement. And I'd bet Conforto is projected in the 2.5 range as well. Get a Scherzer and its a big bump but only a bump on 2 WAR not 1.6. And with the likely just net loss of Kimbrel, it may not get much brighter on the ZiPs front.

  39. In a world where pitchers are getting $40 million contracts...and having just a one-year commitment on the books has a ton of value for many cash-strapped franchises with better/deeper farm systems. Ultimately, that would be what the A's would ask for to begin with. Now would they accept a package around Burger and Collins and maybe one Tier B prospect? Throw in Yermin for good measure, since the A's seem to be able to extract value from nearly any hitter historically. Maybe, probably...?

  40. Olson is a stud, but where would he play on the Sox? And I would love Chris Bassitt back on the Sox. Would something like Burger/Sheets (pick one) and Kelley work? You don't think much of Eloy do you? Now you're bringing him up in trades for rentals. Earlier today you wanted to trade him to the Twins.
    1 point
  41. Yea… his last 4 seasons average at a 141 ERA+, he strikes out about 9 per 9 innings, and gives up about 1 homer over the same span. Considering our current starting 5 is Giolito, Lynn, Cease, Dallas, and Kopech with Lopez first on the depth chart… why on earth would Hahn even consider a starting pitcher who began his professional career on our team that’s preformed 40% better than his peers over the past 4 years, according to one metric. What other ideas do you have… since this one clearly is awful. ?

  43. I think the Sox have internal options to fill 2nd that might be a year away but Burger isn't one of them. Yolbert Sanchez will be 25 in March , hit very well in AA and with the Glendale Desert Dogs so the Sox seem to be accelerating his push up. I expect to see a lot of him in Spring Training even if the Sox go outside the organization for a guy for this year. Then there is Jose Rodriguez who is only 20 and might be the best position player the Sox have had at that age since Luis Robert. There's also 25 yr old Romy Gonzalez who crushed his way through Birmingham and Charlotte and made his MLB debut with the Sox. He's a solid 6'1 215lb power hitter. He only got 60 PA at Charlotte but tore the cover off the ball in that SSS. If the Sox make any trades they may include 1 of these guys or Burger for that matter.
