I would absolutely trade Cease and Robert IMO. Burn it all down10 points

There's no pleasing some of you people. Giolito and Lopez were walking away for nothing at the end of the season, best case scenario some comp pick in the 3rd round range. Today, we have a new top 100 prospect and another pitching prospect. For two guys who weren't going to be here. Yeah, we get it this organization sucks.10 points

Originally I wasn’t a fan of this but since you don’t like it, I now love it.9 points

I have absolutely no faith at all in this org to develop these players, but this is a really good get for two non-elite rentals9 points
-
This is kind of a crazy comment. It's obviously not "really good" for us. The White Sox should have re-signed Lucas Giolito. They have no pitching. These bozo's shouldn't be trading for and "developing" anyone. If the Sox can't sign a guy like Giolito who the hell can they sign? The return might be adequate, but it's certainly not a really good trade for us.8 points

Keep in mind the NYM are just about dead and SD just lost 2 of 3 at home to PIT. If both clubs end up dumping their SPs on the market, the return for Giolito almost assuredly would have been worse. In addition, Arte Moreno was obviously in desperation mode and willing to make a clear and early statement to Ohtani go show him they are willing to bend over backwards to try and win, after they prematurely announced Ohtani was off market, he was going to empty his bullets early one way or another and the only issue would be which club would take advantage of that. I think striking while the iron was hot on that front also made sense for us. I don't see other owners out there with a similar level of extreme desperation. Most analysts think we did quite well for rentals. I despise this FO just as much as anyone but it's tough to complain about this return. If Snell, Scherzer, Verlander, Stroman etc got dumped into this SP market, we'd be up s%*# creek without a paddle. And we addressed two immediate needs at once. The FO is comprised with overly smug, and grossly incompetent losers but what's fair is fair you have to give them their due here.8 points

Well obviously context matters. Trading off pieces means we failed, so yeah not good. But signing Lucas to a nine figure when the rest of the team sucks isn’t really the answer. And guess what, we can still go sign him this off-season if we wanted to offer him the most money. Nothing has changed in that regard, but now we have added to two quality prospects to a really bad system. Holding Giolito for his last 10 starts on a 100 loss team would have been the definition of insanity.7 points
-
I’ll never understand this idea of holding onto a pending free agent while 21 games under .500 at the deadline when you can trade said player and then use payroll saving to sign a replacement when needed. Giolito making 10 starts for us in August & September does nothing soften our boredom for two months.7 points
-
We got a top 100 prospect for Giolito. Isn’t that what most of the optimists were expecting?7 points
-
Ha, MLB website had the Angels organization ranked 28 before the season started. I’m guessing these guys are turds.7 points

I understand those that wanted Gio re-upped, but what you don't understand is that he was a player rep during labor problems, and was a little outspoken. That doesn't fly with JR. He was never going to be extended. What they ot for him , on paper, is fairly decent, which is good, because everyone else they are going to trade soon will be lucky to get you a Ryan Cordell-like return. I'm sure the Sox will f*** up the catcher.6 points

You may have missed my many posts in the “Fire Rick Hahn” thread. I hate that dude, I hate KW (slightly less than Rick), and I hate Jerry. We are fucked forever with those guys at helm, but until they’re gone I still will hope we do smart things in isolation. Once the determination was made to not extend Lucas, the smart move was trading him. Rick actually got a solid return which isn’t all that surprising because Lucas was a Hahn proof asset in this market. These latter statements can all be true while also acknowledging Rick is the worst GM in baseball. Also, this “the Angels system sucks” commentary is meaningless in the grand scheme of things. We got two of their best prospects. Their entire farm system ranking is irrelevant. Imagine if we traded Montgomery & Schultz for a rental SP not named Ohtani - think any seller would be unhappy with that because our overall farm is garbage?6 points

See, I stand by my thoughts that the Sox are actually OK at finding talented players. They're horrendous at developing though. Like possibly the worst in the majors. Look at how many players left the org and have soared elsewhere AND look at how many talented players have come here, including on the current team, and just imploded.6 points

Very nice return. @Balta1701 - You going to admit you were wrong about Lucas commanding a top 100 prospect?6 points

Too bad the Sox organization is unable to develop young talent. He'll be a bust here.6 points

Yeah, can't get over this part of it though. Part 1: 2013-2015 - Hahn inherits Doug Laumann as scouting director - 2013: Laumann selects Tim Anderson (all star) - 2014: Laumann selects Carlos Rodon (all star) - 2015: Laumann selects Carson Fulmer (awful) Hahn then knows he's going into a rebuild, and handpicks Nick Hostetler to lead the draft where we'll have 2 top 5 picks and 2 top 12 picks. Hostetler picks (in the top of the draft where you can get super athletic players with some bat skills): A maxed out 1B/DH (Collins) profile A reliever (burdi) A maxed out Corner Infielder (Burger) A zero power, weak armed 2nd baseman A maxed out, unathletic first baseman with middling power (Vaughn) Atrocious. He tore the roster down to studs and was unable to supplement any of his rebuilt team with players from the draft as anything special. He then took hand picked Hostetler to get him some top free agents. OK. He attacks RF with full force of Nomar Mazara, Adam Eaton and AJ Pollock.5 points

Remember when they said we couldn’t afford Harper and Machado because we needed money to resign our players down the line and here we are down the line and practically none of them are worth resigning.5 points
-
We shipped off two rentals who will be used for approx. 2 months and we got back potential that will be with this team for multiple years. It boggles my mind that people on here aren't ok with this. This isnt Chris Sale, Adam Eaton, and Jose Quintana getting traded with a roster purge. This was expiring assets being moved for something rather than nothing.5 points
-
I didn't know we had Giolito for 5 more years.5 points
-
I have no idea what this means. Why does this suck? Yes, it’s sad to see Lucas go. He is my son’s favorite player as well as his jersey. But Lucas was leaving regardless. Would you rather have a pick after the second round of next year’s draft or this package? You guys needs to take the emotion out of this. This is a good trade from a value perspective. Obviously it sucks from a near-term winning perspective, but I’ve long since come to terms with that fact regardless of this trade happening.5 points
-
I feel a little bit of “well we got something” in this thread and honestly that sucks even worse. The guy who fucked this up is trying to fix this and we are so whiplashed and becoming accepting. This is just awful on every level5 points
-
Thanks for everything, Lucas. I wish you well on your playoff chase with LAA and your big contract, you deserve it.5 points
-
You realize we can resign Giolito & Lopez if we’re willing to pay them the most money, just like if we held onto them for some reason? Nothing has changed other than we now two legit prospects.5 points

This is actually a really good trade for us.5 points

This is what I just don't buy... You're telling me Hahn pitches "hey, we spend 3 million hear, we save 100 million here in FA etc" and Jerry isn't interested? If Hahn had an idea to build out the proper infrastructure he could have. The Sox payroll is 190 million dollars; Jerry isn't forcing the Sox to invest the least in tech and analytics, and on PD. Maybe you think he wants to pinch pennies on amateurs and latin players, OK, but that doesn't mean he's going to say you can't implement this program, this system, these thousand dollar technologies... that's just nonsense imo and another Hahn excuse. Hahn was raving with Getz about a single message and technology and etc and then it came out then invested nothing there. If Jerry was that strict, a smart GM would drop 5-7 million off the payroll and put it in those segments because the ROI's in those spaces is massive in baseball right now.4 points

They had an opportunity to sign two different stars 5 years ago but they didn't, and they were never serious about it. That's why the rebuild was doomed to fail from the start,4 points

There honest to god might not be a more delusional group of people than the "Hahn isn't that bad" crowd. You don't need to sign mega free agents to compete. The Sox, under Hahn's watch, are bad at: drafting, Free agency, player development. Hahn was good and is now OK at: signing young guys to decent deals. It turns out that you actually have to identify and develop those guys for that skill to work. Rick didn't build a system from the ground up. He tried to build one from the top down, and just like everything he's done he was quickly exposed for the whole world to see.4 points

Nightingale was on Sox on 35th podcast. He believes the front office will be the same for next year. Kenny and Hahn’s contracts are up in 2024. You could totally tell he was sticking up for Jerry. Mentioned the White Sox having 4 different managers and they’ve been blamed for the issues. Organization is realizing the players are at fault. Fucking joke of an organization!!!4 points
-
No idea why any of you trust this organization to tank again. They definitively proved they can't do it. It sucks, but they're better off keeping their best, long-term controlled players and filling in the blanks with lightning in the bottle attempts and mid level free agents. Their drafting strategy seems to be improving, but they still need to revamp their player development. Luckily that can happen irrespective of how good or bad the MLB team is.4 points

They’re insane for not trading Cease. 2022 was likely a career year, and I really don’t like how his velocity is going down already.4 points
-
I know you're just trolling now, but based on the last two years+, especially the results this season...what gives you ANY hope that 2024 will be a competitive year of White Sox baseball? The "core" is not good and there is nothing in the farm system to help. No one, and I mean NO ONE, is pining for another rebuild, especially at the hands of Rick Hahn. We've been down that road before. It's not going to work. But building a competitive roster to compete for a World Series isn't going to work either, he's not capable of it. The only hope is for everyone to get fired, outside of that, it's the same bullshit year in and year out. Why is that so hard to understand?4 points
-
Because there’s not enough talent in the organization to compete, even with them around4 points

Listen man, obviously I understand why you're so obsessed with me (I am awesome) and why you're absolutely dying for my attention but I'm never going to sleep with you dude.4 points

55 BB's to 53 K's for a 20 year old in AA is some serious plate discipline. I loved seeing that.4 points

This trade is a big nothing burger. They were never getting impact players in any of these trades. All it does is signal yet another massive failure by Rick Hahn.4 points
-
You can argue about whether or not this trade will pan out, but on paper this was a very good haul for 2 months each of a SP and RP.4 points
-
Nah I’m just posting my thoughts on the trade here I’m not really interested in finding ridiculous posts and calling them out and I never said the rebuild didn’t fail nor did I say I don’t feel they should rebuild. This front office shouldn’t be anywhere near this and I am absolutely within my rights to question their ability to scout when acquiring assets4 points
-
I knew it was coming, but it still hurts. Sad that his no hitter in an empty park was one of the few memorable feats during the failed rebuild. Best of luck in Anaheim Lucas!4 points
-
The guys they got back in this trade lead to believe they are punting on 2024. Otherwise they would have gotten an MLB ready SP for Giolito (like a Pepiot or Stone). With that in mind, they should trade TA and Cease too because there is no purpose in letting them rot on a bad team next year and lowering their value.4 points

Balta will do whatever it takes to move the goalposts to fit his narrative. Come hell or high water.4 points

Just realized that this is the end of the Adam Eaton trade for us. Pretty fitting that Lucas & Reynaldo go out in the same move. Pretty sad the rebuild pretty much kicked off with those guys and nearly seven years later we have very little to show for it.4 points

We got 2 of their top 5 prospects, for a rental of Giolito, while also shedding salary with ReyLo. I hate the organization, but there is nothing wrong with that return.4 points
