  1. Sale returned an MLB-ready blue chip prospectg that was widely top prospect in the game, and a legit top 30 type. Moncada obviously didn't pan out to his lofty projections, but let's not just call him a "top 100" prospect. That would be like O's trading Holliday + Kjerstad/Mayo and two filler pieces.

  2. On an Orioles' board that is similar to this, a person named "interloper" says: And on Twitter, there's a lot of "Just go out and trade for Cease, already" from various other teams' fans. I think Cease will be traded, and I believe he will bring back a Chris Sale type deal (2 top 100, 2 middling prospects). https://forum.orioleshangout.com/forum/2-orioles-talk/

  3. Surprised this is taking so long, usually is ominous in trades.

  8. They obviously heard something and tried to jump the gun to get ahead of the bigger, legit insiders.

  9. Yeah they can wait till ST starts but it doesn't make sense to take him into the season. Even if he pitches better I'm not sure the return is going to be meaningfully better since it will be 1.5 years of control vs 2 years now so it might be a relative wash.

  10. Fully agree. Turning Cease into multiple controllable assets is critical to the mid-term future of the club. Obviously you still need to get a strong package, but don’t hold off for perfection if it can be avoided.

  11. Only if he hits left-handed.

  12. Does lack of suitors equate to lack of value? Simply because Baltimore won't part with their precious prospects doesn't mean those posters are right.

  13. A distinct possibility. Man ATL would be the absolute worst. Something like AJSS + Grissom + some other lame prospects is very weak. Very weak. Even both pitchers is meh. We need LHS. Evidently Getz thinks the Ten Commandments says Thou Shall not Slug. If so, he's a fucking moron. LDB is a lame way to play. Even if Chicago got AJSS and Waldrep I would have to apologize to @bmags and @baseball_gal_aly because they would still be on balance right about Cease's lack of value. Two pitchers and no LHS is unacceptable. One pitcher and a pile of crap is a disaster of biblical proportions.

  15. I bet Jerry would have been willing to match 10 years / $2MM per year.

  16. I really think a few of Yamamoto, Snell and Montgomery need to sign before we see the Cease market really heat up

  17. This is a very good point. Bob has historically been used to leak stuff that our FO wants out there. I really really don't want ATL to be the trading partner so I hope you're right and it's a strategic leak to scare LAD. On the other hand, the fact that we are leaking to scare LAD and not BAL suggests Elias is still being a dickless coward and maybe the FO has given up on trying to persuade him.

  18. Fathom is almost certainly right about this trade being likely (especially with Rosenthal reporting it), but the question is why did this Glasnow stuff leak ahead of time. And why is Nightengale pumping the Braves as a likely landing point concurrently. If you believe that all info out there is purposeful, then it suggests a game of chicken for Cease between the Sox & Dodgers. Again, I’m sure this trade is happening, just surprised it leaked early and to MLB Nerds first.

  19. They aren’t trading Miller. Also, I’m not sure if Dodgers need the extra year for Cease as much as others, as they should have May/Ohtani/Buehler back for 2025

  20. Pepiot was Top 100 before he graduated. So Glasnow with 25m salary, injury history and one year of control got a Top 100. I was told Cease isn't going to get dick tho...

  24. "Every big market team". Last I checked Chicago was a big market and the White Sox play in Chicago so we must be interested. Right? Right?

  25. I think Getz is going to want 1 or 2 of Frasso, Stone, Sheehan, Ryan, Hurt or Knack. Those guys are all 25 and Knack is 26. I don't think there's any way a Cease trade is completed without a starting pitcher. Pages shows a lot of promise. In his 2nd go round in AA he did very well but it was just 33 games. But he torn his labrum in his 1st AAA game on May16 and missed the rest of the season after surgery. Shoulder injuries impair his power stroke for a bit. He's RH and plays RF ( Cuban ,avg defender , strong arm, nice walk rate.) He could use some AAA time. Previously he was added to the Dodgers 40 to protect him in the Rule 5. I don't think there's a need to ask for Rushing. You might not have a true headliner because of Busch's lack of position or 1B only profile but there are worse things than a LH slugging 1st baseman. I suppose you could work with him at 3rd base and see if he can improve there. I still think Eloy has to be gone for him to play . You could alternate Vaughn and Busch between DH and 1st base. I think he'd be an instant starter for better or worse.

  26. One guy we draft works out and we trade him. Arghhhh. So sad. Any way we could get him back in a deal for Moncada? They might go for Moncada over Burger unless Moncada is too much $$.

  27. They (MLB.tv) have game highlights, each ball put into play and the full games (TV and audio feeds, usually both, but always at least one with very rare exceptions). Then youtube also has game highlights as well, just to name a few options.

  28. Correct....I got confused sorry @bmags I confused your position with Balta's.

  29. $700 million is just a number to grab headlines, the PV of the contract is $450 million. Judging on those numbers, I'd say Yamamoto is certainly the bigger risk.

  31. Is this that guy's first offseason? These things tend to go slowly and then all at once. Someone has to "set" the market usually and then there's a flurry of deals. Other times it doesn't go like this and a potential deal just simmers and simmers and simmers before getting done once the pressure of getting the roster set by late February arrives in late winter. The offseason has just started. Nobody wants to rush a deal just for the sake of getting something done.

Like, yeah, the bidding war taking time and then a team either getting outbid or paying too much is basically how trades work. And you're not even gonna consider that the hold up could be due to the rest of the SP marker moving slow?

  35. To be fair, Grissom himself just graduated off the top 100 prospect list (still has 6 years of control) and younger than about half the Dodgers prospects discussed on this board. He's being treated like he's just declined and fell off the T100 list or something. I think you're putting too much emphasis on a label. Any of these prospects being talked about that debuted last year that would start the season at the MLB level in 2024 on the Sox would also have 6 years.

  36. For the record I have not been saying Cease has a lack of value, you jus tmis For the record I have not been stating Cease has a lack of value, you are just assuming this because I like grissom because he is good.

  41. Say the Sox hold onto him and he goes down with TJ in spring. He misses all of 2024, and 2025 is nothing more than him coming back and shaking off the rust. His value is gone just like that.

  42. So far, he's just plugging holes with low-cost AAAA and low-risk bets. I don't see any problem with that, and frankly, I'm a little optimistic that some of these guys are going to prove to be good to great signings. Were there better FA options at C than Stassi at league minimum? Maldanodo for $4M-ish? I think it was a shrewd move. And now there's more money to try and sign a guy like Giolito. Maybe even go after Teoscar Hernandez. I like what Getz is doing so far. Maybe he's constrained by budget, but I think we have to wait and see.

  43. NOBODY FUCKING CARES ABOUT THE WHITE SOX OUTLOOK BECAUSE IT FUCKING SUCKS. They're not even going to sign anyone from here on out for more than $7.5 million...it's freakin' pointless.

  44. I am fine with it versus paying Maldonado or another washed vet $4-5M to be just as bad.

  45. Let's be honest. Outside of a Robert, Cease, maybe a few other guys that people are hoping improve (like Vaughn), this roster is a garbage heap. It's a 95+ loss team.

  47. They are risking nothing. That's why you buy a sports franchise. You're guaranteed to bank. It's a legal cartel. As for your 2nd point, there isn't a single part of another team spending money to win that makes me enjoy baseball less -- the Sox, sure? But the sport as a whole, hell no. There's no defending JR.
