  1. Robert is back in the lineup if we want to find something else to worry about.

  2. A couple of new entries on the MiLB transaction tracker: C Alvaro Rios, 17, Panama SS Jehancarlos Mendez, 16, DR

  3. That’s a bottom five that puts more fear into Sox fans than any of their opponents.

  4. Not trying to be the negative guy, but I have zero confidence in this front office and coaching staff. In my eyes to even have a playoff caliber season by 2027, we are going to have to see major changes made, and most importantly, they have to make the right changes. Now look back at how many "right changes" this organization has made in the last 5 to 10 years. Makes it kind of hard to be positive, but hope they prove me wrong

  5. Solid win. It was the kind of win the Sox will need to replicate as much as possible, low scoring, some steals, timely hitting, pitching and defense.

  6. Given JR's stated history including last August at Getz's press conference, convincing him to pay for pitching may be equal to finding the Holy Grail. That would be quite an accomplishment. By the way that doesn't mean JR is necessarily wrong given pitchers injury tendencies but the fact is other teams are willing to take those gambles and the Sox are always left behind.

  7. We need an "on the spectrum" tag for some posts.

  8. That's fair. But if I can watch every single one of my 10 year old nephew's games on a live webcast, you'd think a Major League franchise should do the same.

  9. So consistently bad?

  10. Why the f*** can they not just stick a home plate feed up? f*** this franchise.

  11. Despite the rage, that was the point of bringing in tons of shitty place holders this off season. Quit rushing kids and allow them to simmer as they need instead of putting them into bad situations they weren't ready for. Maybe not rushing the next Andrew Vaughn and forcing him into the OF as a lumbering ox allows him to at least learn how to hit first before being shoved into the majors. I have no idea how this will all end up, but there are at least a couple of signs that look better to me.

  14. Minor pet peeve that always gets to me: when someone takes a photo of a two-dimensional subject (usually a TV screen but in this case the lineup card) at an angle instead of head-on. Anyway, go Sox I guess.

  17. Lip is usually a dark cloud, but look at what we were promised, and look at what we got. At present, his dismay is more than justified. im skeptical of anything anyone says on the positive side of things. Pillar thinking this team could make the playoffs.’ Where’s Jim Mora when you need him?

  18. A nice well rounded win. Scored some runs, got some hits, did not make any errors for a change and got some solid pitching.

  21. Solid outing for Soroka. One hard hit ball for a HR and some soft contact otherwise. Struck out two and and walked one in two innings.

  22. We can't forget about their propensity for overpaying mediocre FA. No one really knows yet how much leeway Getz will have compared to his predecessors. Yes they will likely spend some money, but how that gets allocated or how well that gets allocated is another story.

  24. That would be a terrible strategy in 2024. You need to keep as much talent in the system as possible, not win 65 games instead of 62.

  26. Actually, I've experienced Mr. Liptak going all the way back to Tribune chat boards on AOL, mid to late 90's. Dude's consistent.

  27. Yeah but if he sticks at SS and can hit for AVG and get OBP, it's sort of fine, as Jimmy has mentioned.

  28. Looks like the potential Opening Day line up vs. the lefty. Sox should be a runaway train by then.

  29. Competitive in this division? Sure. Sox have very little committed to the 2025 roster and payroll besides a bargain superstar in Robert. A little tough to see Getz's longer term vision at this point (besides improving the defense) as nearly everyone he has acquired is a 1 year stop gap outside of Fletcher.

  30. True but at least it looks like a professional swing instead of that college metal bat swing he had before.

  32. We've made our playoff appearance for this decade. 2030 is the soonest we'll be competitive again. https://champsorchumps.us/team/mlb/chicago-white-sox

  33. It’s not who earns a spot in spring training, it’s who we’ve already decided will be on the roster. That’s basically what he’s saying. The guy can’t stop tripping himself up.

  34. Colson was also a three sport all star, holding his HS basketball record in scoring all time, plus the QB leading his team to Semi State. He wasn’t a full time baseball player until 19 and was still a pretty raw talent when drafted, very similar to Tim Anderson.

  35. There is no way the state is going to negotiate a new lease at GRF with Reinsdorf like that. They're certainly not going to issue some sort of "go f*** yourself" ultimatum as their opening and final offer to him since they'd much rather have the Sox remain as a tenant at GRF instead of having the park abandoned and bulldozed. Unlike some Sox fans, ISFA is not just itching to have the Sox move out of town. Also, JR isn't stupid enough to let the Sox be a team without a home. He didn't become a billionaire by negotiating in such a juvenile way. He's cold-blooded, but not a moron.

  36. We have four years of control left with Robert. If we won’t be competitive until 2026 at the earliest, then you have to seriously consider it. But yeah, if we could find a Robert like talent in return who is controllable from 2026 to 2031 that would be a massive for us.

  37. Multiple good players. Robert isn’t enough to do anything for this team. They aren’t good enough elsewhere, and only have less than a handful of position prospects expected to be worth a damn.

  38. Unless the White Sox don't think they'll be good in the next 5 years, they have no business trading Luis. You're going to trade Robert in hopes of what? Finding a player like Robert in return?

  39. My OG post also has Cease because he's still under control but there is a good chance he's not here next ST. If this was the 2019 or 2020, would argue to keep, but this is more like 2016-2018 in terms of where the position player prospects are at this stage. There is a decent amount of upside among the couple dozen younger pitchers which gives me hope. If you have 6-8 good to very good pitchers, coupled with Robert and the three top position players, they would have at least half a solid team which they have only had one season across two years (two months of 2020, first four months of 2021) since the 2005-2008 run. Also hoping Getz will do a better job spreading out the top draft selections between HS and NCAA, as opposed to going all in on college picks and leaving the minors barren until the next set of tanking trades. Also needs to stay in the bargain bin for now to maximize future flexibility, and don't sign long term expensive players until the core is in place.

  40. You’re right but Hahn had to Hahn. But conveniently, the team has yet to move to American Samoa and conver their roster to cricket, so a guy who needs innings can, during 2024, throw innings.

  41. Best case scenario, with returns from a few more trades like Cease and Fedde, this team will have some guys who can step in and a fair amount of money to spend next offseason. They don’t look anything like a World Series champ, but getting close to .500 and being back to 4th place in the AL central is feasible. More realistically, that probably involves too many things going right. They don’t have a lot of talent in the organization and their development staff has yet to give us any reason for confidence. Especially with Grifol probably still managing in 2025, my guess is it looks a lot like 2023 - they make some signings, think they’re better than they are, and then disappoint. That is my standing prediction for 2026-2027 as well.

  42. Thats why they should follow a plan to get him those innings.
    1 point
  43. If I'm drafting him I'm absolutely sending him out as a 2 way guy and giving him every opportunity to prove he can do both. If he settles in as a power hitting 1B/DH and late inning reliever you have a very special player.

  44. seems to me you should be able to get about 1,000,000 to 1 on anything over 68.

  45. There’s no way they’re adding. This schlub team of has-beens and never-wases was put together for the sole purpose of hoping for bounce-back years to get lottery tickets at the deadline.

  46. This is the problem with retaining a coach who clearly sucks. Even someone as delusional as Grifol recognizes that he’s on the hot seat. He's in survival mode. His decisions are going to be based on what he deems best in the short-term, because that's all he's guaranteed to be here for. Finding out what we have in Colas, Sosa, Lee, etc. and being patient through their growing pains is what's best long-term (heck, probably short-term as well), but Pedro likely sees it as a one-way ticket out of town.
