Regardless, people have every right to rip Chris Getz for trading 23 year old Matthew Thompson who didn’t require roster protection for a 26 year old LH relief prospect who requried a 40 man roster spot only to be released a few months later to add a AAAA outfielder (who was just released) to the mix since the two 25+ OF prospects he acquired this offseason for controllable talent aren’t yet quite ready for the show for reasons unknown. Is trading Matthew Thompson the end of the world? Of course not, but when evaluated as part of a larger series of moves it’s a bit concerning and people who are objective should actively call Getz out for it. For some reason, you like to sweep all these little misses and questionable decisions under the rug as either being “immaterial” or “business as usual” and then proceed to rip the crowd that is more vocal in ripping Getz as being irrational. The reality is we have one of the least talented major league rosters and shouldn’t proactively age up our roster on guys that offer absolutely nothing like Ortega. No idea how you can continue justify such actions for a team on pace to win 50 games.

I called you insane for suggesting Brad Keller was a “key part of our future” and I’d tell my mother the same thing if he she made such a trollish claim. As for Montgomery, he should be at AAA right now because he just turned 22 years old and had a 167 plate appearances above High A ball coming into this season. DeLoach is a 25 year old coming a full season of AAA ball. Why the f*** did we acquire this kid if he needed more seasoning? The same applies to Fletcher. You say he needed to be sent down to “reestablish good habits” but nothing in his performance in Charlotte warranted a call-up. Him getting called up again reeks of desperation after pretending Ortega was a major league OF. So yeah, I don’t really care all that much about us trading a random lottery ticket for another AAAA OF who might be a weak side bat in the majors. It’s more of the broader strategy and various misses when viewed in aggregate that is highly concerning. Again, it’s very early to evaluate Chris, but at the moment the dude looks in over his head and that’s truly terrifying when you acknowledge he must turn a 50 to 60 win team into a playoff contender without the luxury of a top 5 farm system to bank on.

The Orioles weren’t even offering that much for Cease and now we can get Norby and Beavers for Fedde and Kopech? Yeah, I’m gonna guess no. Elias is in love with his prospects and isn’t paying that much for 1.5 years of a starter without much of a history of success and an erratic reliever. Also, both Norby and Beavers would likely be in our top 5 or 6 after Quero, not the back end of our top 10. Ultimately, I think when we see the actual return for Fedde and Kopech, we are going to wish it was Norby and Beavers.

If you know you aren't winning anything this year, this situation should be the exact opposite. A 3-22 start tells you that you should be looking at your future, and NOT this year. The rookies weren't the problem, it was his placeholder vets. And to fix that problem, he started getting more vets to squeeze out the kids.

More than anything he started out on a path this winter that made some sense in context, and then as soon as the team started losing he threw all of it away, and did the exact opposite of everything as he went through what you described above. It's one thing to have a plan, but as Ali said, everyone has a plan until they get hit in the mouth. Getz got hit in the mouth and ran from everything he was doing.

Yes, the White Sox need to play games. Weren’t Fletcher and DeLoach acquired to help solve RF this season and also provide depth elsewhere in the OF in the case of injury? We traded a top 10 prospect and a controllable RP with serious upside (fully aware of his health issues) to get these guys and yet they are so unready for major league jobs that we must DFA controllable arms on the 40 man roster and trade minor league talent (even if just lottery tickets) so we can “play the games”. We also continue to play a 1B/DH type in RF, something we all criticized Hahn for and something that Getz implied we’d get away from, all because two of Getz’s legit acquisitions have been such massive flops so far. So yeah, you can continue to look at everything in isolation and say all these misses are “immaterial” or you can observe more holistically and be concerned that Getz may be in over his head. I don’t hate every single thing Getz has done as GM, but there are some massive red flags right now that shouldn’t be ignored. And that’s even more true when you acknowledge he probably wasn’t qualified for this role in the first place.

Figure out later. Someone could move there later if they need to or just try to sign a 1B when the time comes.

If they think he is 1b only, I hope they do not pick him. Rainer and Griffin both play premium positions, Montgomery is a + right fielder. It puts way too much pressure on the bat to be taking a 1b with a top 5 pick.

They should absolutely be playing at least these two at the MLB level every day to decide if they have any place on this roster or they're 40-man roster fat to trim in the off-season.

I want no part of signing a 33 year old pitcher to a multiyear $20+ million dollar deal. And in case you haven't been paying attention, neither do the White Sox. If you want to build a team to compete, then you trade Fedde this year. Were not one SP away from competing.

Aaron Civale returned a top 100 mlb prospect at last year’s deadline so no I don’t think we’re too high on Fedde if he keeps this up for another 8-10 starts…

For rookies with at least 50 PA, Korey Lee leads in batting average. It's kinda funny that after a decade+ of being unable to replace AJ, Hahn got Lee and Quero on his way out for expiring deals and Kendall Graveman. And, to his credit, Getz may have had them work on improving their hitting this off-season, as they look much better than post-deadline last year.

I haven’t even participated in this argument, but once again you’re making up your own false narratives to attack posters you view as being anti Getz. Are you actually arguing minor league depth is not important? Or are you suggesting 23 year old Matthew is somehow a super old prospect? Because certainly we could have slotted Thompson in the AA bullpen and evaluated how he looked as a reliever. The idea we’re so overloaded with talent in our farm system that Thompson would have otherwise needed to be dumped is absolutely ludicrous.

The Guardians, Royals and Twins would all lead the AL West. Now this is partially fueled by the Royals and Twins beating the s%*# out of the Sox, but they're a horrible defensive team that can't hit*. They wouldn't ever sniff contention, let alone with a slapdash rotation of Crochet, Fedde, ReyLo, Clevinger and, I guess, Flexen. The Sox likely never turn ReyLo into a starer. Fedde looks like his KBO transformation was the real deal, but it needs to hold up. Clevinger has had approximately 1 bad start. Crochet is rolling, but we need to see how his arm holds up over 162. *Before you say "they couldn't hit, but then they brought in Tommy Pham, Ramos and Danny Mendick! Pham is gonna come down to Earth unless he's found some late career, 36-year-old magic - and that doesn't happen since we left the 90s. Ramos is a rookie who will have occasional struggles. And I love Danny Mendick dating back to his "we love this guy in our farm system because his name makes us laugh" days and was bummed when Haseley took him out because he was putting it together but Mendick is just not a dude who can carry an offense.

Since we're talking prospects, the Sox have a 22 year old catcher named Calvin Harris. Hits left handed. Takes a ton of walks. 5th rounder in 2022 draft. With Corey Lee, Quero and Harris, we actually have some depth at a valuable position.

I’ve seen you mention this a few times now and I think it’s valid to bring up that Thompson is now through 23 innings with the Cubs and has a 3.50 ERA while significantly dropping his whip and striking out over 1 per inning. That sample size continues to grow.

Again…what would that “1-2-3” punch accomplish? If the goal is to build a competitive team for multiple seasons, how are those three accomplishing that? As others have mentioned, instead of being 14-30, they would be 18-26? This team is desperate for talent in so many areas and are a long way from competing. Hanging on to veteran talent accomplishes next to nothing, aside from a handful of more wins in a season where they will be lucky to win 65 games with or without those guys. And if you are that enamored with Erick Fedde, then go out and sign another one, didn’t cost much to acquire in FA.

So we keep him so we can win 55 games? Nah, give me whatever we can get for him. If we want him at age 33, we can bid on him as a free agent, just like we would if we keep him. It's not like we are even going to be close to a .500 team while he is under contract anyway.

Right, it's not about the players themselves and what the younger guys have done to this point. It's more about the process. At the end of the day, this trade will have no impact for either team.
