Because if this team was nothing but Colas/Canario/Sosa types they would lose 130 games. We don't have the players to stick young upside guys in every position. Guys like Slater and Tauchman aren't good, but at least they have played in the majors and been somewhat successful before. They either hold the place until traded or released.3 points

To play devils advocate, Austin Slater has never been traded for anything of value in his career (which includes your stretch you listed). He was terrible last year, even worse against LHP, and is now going to be platooning on a god awful team. This is a guy who should be discarded instantly if there is a younger, promising, and controllable player available. To your point though, it was not a crazy stupid move, but this guy is more likely to get DFA'd before traded for value.3 points

I don’t think some people here realize just how good Austin Slater was against LHP from 2019 to 2023. His 137 wRC+ would rank 25th overall amongst players with 500+ plate appearances during this stretch. The rest of the list is basically big name stars. I totally get wanting to give playing time to youth, but let’s not act as if giving this dude $800k above the league minimum is some crazy stupid move when we just brought on his former hitting coach to oversee all of our hitting. If he rebounds to his previous form, he will return something of value, even if that won’t be a top 100 prospect.3 points

Canario looks like a better package than anything the Sox have in AAAA outfielders. I wonder if Chris Getz is on the phone. Alexander Canario Minor & Winter Leagues Statistics | Baseball-Reference.com3 points

... I'm fucking done with this team. f*** that piece of s%*# of a human being and the White Sox organization. I don't give a damn how many innings he eats.2 points

I also think that Robert is getting dumped for the warmest pile of puke this spring, but the problem was created over the winter, not today. It's the absurd 40 man management that is the issue here.2 points
-
It makes a lot more sense in that case but the offers need to improve greatly for that to happen I'd think.2 points
-
Pretty sure Slater and Tauchman would murder someone to have the careers that Benintendi or Robert or even Pham have had, and that got us nothing last year.2 points
-
What is the difference between Tauchman/Slater and Colas/Canario? Two wins maybe? I’d rather see what Colas/Canario could actually do (even if they both bust) than hope Tauchman/Slater return a couple 24 year old A ball relievers at the deadline. This team is losing around 100 games either way.2 points

Reinsdorf created the negative narrative — a 41-121 record, the most losses of any major league club since 1900. The 2025 team is potentially looking at another 100 losses. There is no wishing for failure. There currently IS failure and it’s the direct result of a terrible owner, not these “fake Sox fans” that you are trying to blame things on. Fans don’t build the team or choose to tank and rebuild repeatedly because they want to be cheap and save money. That is the direct decision of the man in charge.2 points
-
I think everybody on this board would love to ignore negative narratives and say good things about the Sox. We just can't, however, cause they won 41 games last year, made no attempt to improve the 2025 team and some experts aren't even convinced we have stars to save us in the rebuild.2 points

T-Mobile gives MLB.tv away otherwise hell no. Even with the free product I will be lucky to watch 200 or so innings this year unless we have a miracle strong start.1 point

I don't know if I'm buying it so much as I never bothered to cancel it and it automatically renews every year....the video is very inconsistent in my new apartment here in China, but I still enjoy listening to all the games (listened to the Dodgers' feed this morning to go to sleep between 4-6 a.m., lol) and sometimes listening to DJ/Len when the spirit strikes me. They have GameDay Audio, but I look at it as my little small tiny insignificant contribution to MLB from afar.1 point

The last year i had a ticket package was 2021. I told my rep that I moved out of state and to take me off any marketing lists. I didn't get any calls until this year so they have to be desperate. I almost feel bad for them. Impossible to make commission and it's not their fault.1 point

The only reason the Cubs cut Canario in the first place is because they needed a 40-man roster spot to add Justin Turner. They wouldn’t want a guy that would require yet another 40-man roster spot in either Colas or Fletcher.1 point

Right but one thing at a time.1st on the 40 and if you can't find room you release him. The Yankees just had a guy for a week from the Reds the Sox just picked up didn't they ?1 point

I've always thought that one of the reasons it has not been developed is because there is only one way in and out of there. You can't enter or exit from the east, west or south.1 point

5'6". Look if you aren't fast or don't hit HRs and you can't go above 9 and 10 foot fences in the OF and rob a HR once in a while and you're 27 , had a -.8 WAR and couldn't hit at Charlotte either your basically blew your chance.Julks got released and he's back not on the 40 right ? Colas is the other riff raff .I need to see every pitcher we have before any more of them get DFA'd.1 point

While ESPN sucks at most of what they do these days, it's sort of a bummer cuz I fully expect MLB to now pivot to some streaming service for these games, thus making them harder to see. No one hates baseball as much as MLB does.1 point

They’ll absolutely claim him on waivers. Someone else will probably trade for him before that though. That’s the issue. Should the White Sox be the winning bid? I’m not sure about that1 point

Iriarte and Martin threw live BP today, so I'd guess they're on the same schedule as Schultz and might also make their ST debuts on the 26th.1 point

If any of the other 29 teams felt they could snag Slater later in the offseason, they’d be wrong. Point being, I think he might have gotten scooped up by another team if they tried to wait.1 point

I lived about five minutes from there back then, I could see the Fermi tower from my house. A friend of mine was a player foster house and Josh Booty, Charles Johnson and a few other names stayed with them during the season I also was a Funway “animal” in 1995, we would roam the park in the character outfits lol1 point

He was there when i was. I didn't remember him but saw him later when he was with the Sox and we talked about it.1 point

I feel like Canario is unlikely. The White Sox would likely claim him and let him compete for a spot but you can't trade anything for him because I doubt they'd release Michael Taylor or Austin Slater for him. Canario would need to make the club out of spring training or be DFA again.1 point
-
This is why you don’t commit an MLB roster spot to Slater early in offseason. Guy would probably still be looking for a job at unsigned a MiLB deal by now.1 point
-
Let it be noted that WestEddy and WS2023 agree on a move that the Sox should make.1 point
-
Agreed 100%. He’s still only 24. He should be on the White Sox by the end of the week. I would be very upset to see that Getz would trade young A ball pitchers for older relievers but not for a 24 year old outfield prospect.1 point

Then why do we want to trade this great 3 WAR ceiling player for Yoshida?1 point

Tobias Meyers cycled through the Orioles, Rays, Giants and Indians systems before he pitched 13 innings in Charlotte with a 15.92 ERA and 3.3 WHIP. Feel like that is more of a hat tip to Brewer's system than slight to Sox.1 point

The Sox are on their second rebuild in 9 years since the first one started in 2016. They have had only 2 winning seasons and 2 immediate playoff exits in these past 9 years. That’s isn’t due to lack of a revenue sharing model. The Sox aren’t competitive because the owner and people he put in charge are terrible at their jobs. Other teams have been more successful than the Sox with less money. There is no secret culprit when it comes to the Sox not being competitive enough.1 point

I think if a team fell in their laps suburban dwellers would jump on the bandwagon. But it can't be a team that loses 120 games. That s%*# doesn't sell anywhere.1 point

I may have missed something, I'll double check before Saturday. Of the 33 games looks like we have: 20 - Video available 10 - Radio/audio only 3 - No broadcast options1 point

I agree it’s a little strange that he’s taking less money this offseason. Who knows, maybe he just really wanted to sign with a competitive team and they’re less desperate for his services than the bad teams. Here’s the way I look at it. Flexen ended up being surprisingly durable and important to the Sox last year. Sure he wasn’t necessarily good, but he was a stable guy in the rotation which gave them more flexibility with the other rotation spots. If it was an overpay, fine. Who cares? Ultimately they wanted him, they got him, and he served a purpose.1 point

Mike Shirley is actually good at his job though. Lots of others were replaced. He did draft Chris Getz though haha Being skeptical of ownership is totally warranted. Jerry is awful. It’s a very different organization right now though below ownership. I mean Rosenthal and Passan wrote entire articles on the organizational change. Merkin, DVS and others reported heavily on the research and development, international and hitting infrastructure hires. This info has been out there for anyone who was interested in being open minded. We don’t know if it’ll work because they ultimately need to develop players. However, they’ve put themselves in a much better position and situation to actually be able to develop players.1 point

It seems that multiple people took it this way. Criticize and question Getz all you want. Let me know when you're going to start. I'll give you heart emojis to show my support.1 point
