To be honest, the dream is Ishbia coming in, building a beautiful new park at the 78, and having a couple mega free agents to supplement young core. I love going to the Rate but it’s time for a new, better fan experience in an area that will drive better attendance and lead to higher, more sustainable payrolls.7 points

Hector Santiago"s impact on the organization was massive, which we are still seeing the fruits of today. Having put up a strong 4.2 WAR over 221 innings of work with Sox, traded for Eaton, who of course in initial three year stint put up over 15 WAR Eaton then traded for Giolito, Lopez and Dunning. Dunning for Lynn Giolito and Lopez packaged for Edgar Quero and Ky Bush Lynn also packaged with Kelly for Leasure and Nastrini. So sox got directly from Santiago individual seasons of 2.7, 5.2, 4.6, 6.1,5.4, 4.3, 2.9, 5.5, a current top 50ish prospect, along with at least partially some of our current young albeit borderline pitching depth. Not too shabby for a 30th round pick from 19 years ago4 points

The original design of the present White Sox stadium didn't have this miserable upper deck. JR had the design changed because he wanted another level of suites. I remember when somebody named the upper deck the Reinsdeck.2 points

Dan Hayes was on the SoxMachine podcast last week. What he seemed to imply was that Ishbia used the Twins to push Jerry towards a meeting of the minds.2 points

Honestly, the guy I talked to didn’t say much we didn’t already know other than reaffirming that there is a bigger deal in the works and it will be agreed to prior to Jerry’s death which many of us were already speculating. Nonetheless, as someone who’s desperate to escape Jerry’s reign of terror I will happily take any little tidbit that suggests Ishbia will be in control sooner rather than later as a positive.2 points

Upper decks at all the newer stadiums suck.2 points

I'm not sure I understand how the Sox have an "unsettled stadium issue". The park is fine. The building is like 30 years old, what's the issue?2 points

Good thing we listened to the fans tweeting immediately after his first outing that they were done with him. Ready to send him back2 points

With Seth Jones in the lineup this season: 42 games total - Hawks Record is 12-25-5. With Seth Jones out of the lineup (injury/post trade) 20 games total - Hawks record is 9-9-3. They are 7-0-2 in their last 9 games without him. You can't convince me that dude wasn't a problem.2 points

Most of the recent bats acquired and some of our notable prospects that are likely at some point get ML at-bats do have above average walk rates. It's possible the walk rate for our hitters may actually improve notably from last year.1 point
-
We should be much better at drawing walks this year. Vargas & Meidroth are both elite in this area. Tauchman, Slater, & Thaiss are all very good. Quero, Teel, & Colson will eventually help as well.1 point

Why not ? It doesn't happen very often and it may have been their best game of the Spring. Sox had 11 hits and hit for the cycle Korey Lee provided the double and triple while Vargas had the HR. With the HR and a single Vargas looking cromulent hitting .294 with .839 OPS. Lee continued his good spring. Robert had a single and walk and Sosa also had hit. 3-7 with RISP. Shane Smith pitched 3 innings 0 runs, 1 hit, 0 walks, 5 K. Grant Taylor bookended a nice performance all around by Sox pitchers by pitching 2 innings getting all 6 outs via the K , 1 walk ,0 hits . All together Sox pitchers struck out 16 Dodgers. Shane Smith K'd Ohtani twice. Sox committed 0 errors1 point

Lots of good pitching by the Sox the last 2 games .Only 10 hits total and 3 runs in 17 innings. I expect to see Gallo and Dalbec gone soon. Let them see if they can catch on with another team.1 point

The perception of the area is...weird. People either think it's still the projects or it's a bunch of South Side whites, the term "Bridegeport Bob" still sees some play. But Bob was priced out a decade ago. The reality is that everyone who lives there now is Chinese. The alderman is Chinese. On the other side of Dan Ryan, black people are doing their own gentrification project too, trying to conjure up some idea of a historic Bronzeville, except with $600,000 condos so they don't have to live around poor people. The area has changed radically in my lifetime but the perception hasn't. If they wanted to do some retail district, 35th and Shields is a better site for it these days than it has been in like 80 years. Which is why I don't understand or think it's true that they'll move or sell. The Sox already own a lot of desirable land to build on, the "anchor tenant" idea at that Related Idiots project just seems lazy and uninspired and a poor way for a billionaire to make a lot more money.1 point

I'd be interested to see our road lineups vs our home lineups and if its a lot of rosters edge guys on the road1 point

I will say that I am shocked to see Karinchak still in camp. To say he has nothing is an insult to nothing. Kinda surprised to see Mitchell and Gallo starting as well. either of those guys have looked conceivable, let alone good.1 point

Yeah, I think the state could very well agree to pay for the infrastructure costs if ownership paid for most, if not all, of the stadium itself. That infrastructure wouldn't be a small investment by the state and city, but it's probably something they could agree to if they're putting money into things like a new Red Line stop and an extended riverwalk instead of toward the new stadium itself for the use of billionaire owners.1 point

I think the state might be willing to contribute towards a stadium for the Sox, but ownership needs to contribute significantly more than what Jerry originally signaled. Hopefully Ishbia eventually helps on that front. I am generally against public funding for stadiums, but I do think a major investment in the 78 would warrant some public money.1 point

Bad body 1B/DH but big boy can flat out crank. He has an incredibly loose easy swing and feel to hit for a dude his size. Would love to target him somewhere 3-5.1 point

I’m speculating here, but I really think this comes down to Jerry realizing he doesn’t have a lot of time left and doesn’t want to lose out on a super rich potential buyer with Chicago ties. Ishbia bought a single mid digit amount of shares back in 2021 and it sounds like he had been pushing to outright buy the team for some time. I think he eventually got tired of waiting and decided to take advantage of the Twins opportunity because Jerry wasn’t budging. Regardless, we do know that the threat of Ishbia buying the Twins led to Jerry proposing something to Ishbia and created this first initial domino to make him the biggest shareholder of the Sox. A transfer of control will be happening at some point before Jerry dies based on my conversation yesterday and I don’t think it will be multiple years from now. I fully expect some sort of deal to take place similar to what happened with the Orioles. Just not sure if that’s later this year, next season, etc.1 point

Lost in the Smith & Taylor hype was Nastrini. He threw 27 sliders yesterday out of 51 pitches total and generated 15 swings and 12 whiffs on it (80%). I didn’t catch any of the game, but that’s an insane whiff rate on paper. Did anyone see him pitch yesterday? If so, how did the slider and the rest of his stuff look? Wondering if he’s made some tweaks with the pitch.1 point

I thought Vargas looked pretty good at 1st. Much more athletic over there than Vaughn. Would be great if he found a defensive position. Though it is hard to carry 2 R/R 1b/DH types.1 point

Well guys, Caulfield has glommed, we have a 9:6 ratio here and it’s climbing. Good luck Shane1 point

Correct, the ballpark is in fine shape, easy to get to, plenty of parking and excellent public transportation. The problem is that the perception by many is that it’s in a bad neighborhood, real Sox fans know that’s not true. I never had trouble going to over 200 games from 1955 until we moved to Florida in 1993 but history shows that the Sox were never a huge draw at 35th and Shields, one of the few MLB teams that has failed to draw 3 million in a season, came close twice but no cigar, pretty sad for a Major market team.1 point

Moving forward extending a lease does not mean extending the original terms of the lease. That is what the Sox and the ISFA are likely to do....enter a new Lease that is fair - one that benefits the franchise and provides revenue for the taxpayers.1 point

Illinois probably shouldn't try to be more like Texas. Arlington somehow managed to f*** up their ballpark complex, at least in terms of generating revenue for the municipality/state. They clearly don't need a new stadium and everybody knows it. It certainly isn't an "issue". It's only an "issue" because JR mentioned he wants us to give him a billion dollars. I wouldn't describe that as an issue, I'd also like it if you guys gave me a billion dollars, I'm not sure that I have issues.1 point

Possibly...then JR countered when he saw his last/best chance flipping through his fingers.1 point

Shane Smith had only 94 minor league innings last year...and 60 the previous year. Treating him a bit like Garrett Crochet in the second half would be a good idea. Let's not forget Davis Martin is coming off TJS as well. Bryse Wilson and Perez can just eat innings at the back end until they're traded OR guys like Thorpe Iriarte Nastrini Adams and Owen White push them aside by earning spots. (Let's hope not Clevinger.)1 point

Things can go sideways real fast, but this was a fun one to dream on. Vargas and Sosa becoming regular contributors would be a huge step for the whole team.1 point

Just talked to a dude who is friends with Justin Ishbia. Was told that Ishbia was negotiating with Jerry for the past year to do a deal and that “it’s happening” now after Jerry reached out to him with some sort of proposal. Sounds like it will happening in the not too distant future. Nothing we don’t know other than than the timing.1 point

Doesn't matter the actual velocity. It's if you are throwing at your max too often. One person throwing 97 maybe be throwing with less effort than someone else throwing 95.1 point

Drew Thorpe is fine and pitching. Blake Larson, Berroa, Bush and Carela all having TJS. Pitchers break. They need a lot of them.1 point

If what we think is going on is going on...this isn't swapping baseball trading cards! Not happening by writing it out on a cocktail napkin. These things get done when they get done...and they aren't going to announce it until it gets done (if it is even happening). Billions of dollars involved here...it isn't a handshake and a wink. Confusion for the fans...who cares? I am one of them and I enjoy this story...but it isn't changing anything about how I go about my day. I hope Ishbia buys the White Sox...but I am not expecting it to be today or next week...1 point

So I looked into an antenna for my house and found a bunch of cables downstairs leading to different parts of the house - outside, up through the floor to extend to the three seasons room, up in the attic and into the bedrooms. Then, when my dad and I were putting up some lights so we could see in the attic at our main staircase and in my wife’s closet and we found an antenna set up with a cable connected in the attic and on the east side of the house. We found the cable that hooked up to the TVs, an input and output box in the basement and some cables with a tag that said “ANT” on it. Once those were plugged in, the tv found all of the channels through the air, including CHSN. It was pretty sweet that we had an antenna all set up just sitting there in the attic. Good thing the previous owner didn’t have it taken down when they got Direct TV and then Comcast.1 point
