Vaughn sucks but has options. Send him down and let him work on his issues like the Tigers did with Torkelson last year. Elko is killing the ball in Charlotte. There is no excuse for him not to be in Chicago on Tuesday.4 points

That Southside hat is great. The Bulls and the Sox are among the best selling apparel brands in their sports. Connecting them is a great idea. These are going to sell like crazy.3 points

Yes I thought he was referring to Rojas because of the title. Didn't see the tweet above and already forgot Maton existed.3 points

There it is. A successful magician is a master of distraction. Too bad that isn't the case here.3 points

Other people sucking on other teams isn't really a great defense for guys sucking on our team.3 points

There really isn’t much justification in keeping Vaughn in the lineup (and on the roster) right now. He doesn’t have a history of great success, he never really came into the power that we thought, he doesn’t get on base a lot, he is slow, and he isn’t a great defender. Sending him down shouldn’t generate a “but you can wreck him” response, because he is already there. Elko might come up and strike out a lot, but he is gonna give us some moon shots and sometimes you need that3 points

The design itself isn't bad, like you said the flying sock logo is actually pretty nice. It's just an incredibly lazy ass design. The point of these is to connect it the team to the city of Chicago, and this fails miserably at that. There is nothing connecting the Sox and Bulls outside of piss-poor ownership.2 points

Like my response to the leaks: Love / hate. Hat is a home run. I actually wasn't a fan of the Chi hat, so this is a step up. Sleeveless look is great. You can even argue that it connects to the city, with the dynasty being such a fundamental piece of the city's sporting history. But because it's JR, this feels like a cheap cop out. Also, Miguel Vargas is throwing sass.2 points

It's the difference between a guy who will most likely suck, but has six years of control if he doesn't, and a guy who has historically sucked, and has no control even if he doesn't suck again. This seems obvious to me, but I guess not.2 points

If Elko was 21/22, I might be able to understand keeping him in the minors for another year. But the dude is turning 27 in December. There is no reason for him to not be given a shot.2 points

If you're referring to Workman, he's 70 grade defense at 3B, and a very good defender at SS.2 points

the city just spent $100 million to revitalize the downtown area, with about half of that going to the stadium. It's actually pretty nice for a low A stadium and has a full 360 walkable concourse, which I would assume is not very common for A ball. There are a few nice restaurants/bars/shops but it's pretty small. You are only 30 mins from Charlotte anyway if you need more to do.2 points

If those underlying metrics don't kick in soon all they're going to get for him is a pallet of broken bats and a trough of used baseballs.2 points

“a lot better” is some wild optimism. I would bet now that they lose 100 games next year too. Maybe a ten game improvement.2 points

Middle of a Sox game thread seemed like the perfect time to drop a random nugget about Diamondback Eugenio Suarez2 points

Imagine intentionally paying to go see this team for numerous games over the past two seasons… Must be like those S&M dudes that pay a dominatrix to kick them in the balls repeatedly until they pass out from the pain.2 points

Madrigal's faith tore the club apart? That seems like kind of ludicrous assertion. He wasn't even on the team anymore when everything went to s%*#1 point

White Sox Pitching Stats - Week of 2025-04-21 to 2025-04-27 Note: Due to the MLB Stats API making it somewhat difficult to get SF and HBP data its currently missing from the the calculated numbers below. I thought I came up with a good way to identify starers from relivers but of course the Sox decided to start using openers this past week. He has toned down his swing and changed his approach. In his Junior year, he started pulling the ball more, seeking to become a power hitter. He stayed with that approach with the Sox. This year, he's going to right more. He bunting. And when he gets on, he tries to steal at literally every opportunity. It's an approach more suited to his skillset. Still not a likely major leaguer, but if you squint you can see how that would happen for him. I wish him all the luck.1 point

Braden Montgomery is headed to Winston-Salem. Hopefully in the line up tomorrow. Bonemer will join him in June if the Sox have a clue. Those two are bright spots in a crappy organization.1 point

I gotta remember him for immaculate grid. ATL, CWS, BOS, CLE, CHC, NYY Also always remember these back to back plays. Anyone who hurts the Yankees is A++ in my book.1 point

Nick Madrigal was a big time Christian and his faith helped to tear the team apart...this might work with the Royals, when you have a majority of players sharing the same faith and even drafted for those reasons, but it doesn't work if that "leader" is the one voice in the wilderness and not backing it up with his play, either. Or nobody will listen if the guy's on the IL, let's put it that way.1 point

I was at that game as well with my dad and had the same impression. Lillibridge was on fire at the time. I must have ranted an hour straight from the moment Dunn stepped out of the dugout1 point

Ooof. Pretty sure I was at that game. I definitely remember it feeling like Ozzie giving the org the middle finger.1 point

Of course he is.He's a minor leaguer at the highest level of the minors who has never had a single AB in MLB who is currently tearing the cover off the ball. Is that not a prospect ?1 point

Who cares how old he is? Palka was basically in the same boat, and he showed up and hit some bombs. That’s all we want lol1 point

So dumb, established a concept of city connect then in the second year you just poach another team/sports look? People have been doing these cross sport concepts for years, this just feels really lazy.1 point

With no one really knocking on the door for a few years, he could be a cheap source of power for a few years. Might as well give him a shot.1 point

I’m waiting for the 13-man bullpen with 3-4 guys going 1-3 innings to open the game and then the other 9-10 covering the remainder of the game. Mostly joking here…1 point

I think the poster thinks he is talking about Josh Rojas. Don't know considering Josh Rojas has yet to DH for the Sox this year haha1 point

the other teams signed a five year extension in 2019 which also increased each stake holder's share of the network to 25% when the cubs were bought out. They opted out of the network at the end of their contract in 2024. Comcast had tried to negotiate an extension more than once, with the last offer to carry the bulls and hawks in 24-25, which would have delayed CHSN's launch. the wirtz and reinsdorf families said no.1 point

Dude's hitting .354/.432/.732. That's about as Ruthian as we're going to get out of a minor leaguer1 point

Comparing Sox park to TB or Oakland makes no sense. Citing Arlington makes no sense. Most of Passans article is a stretch get on back there. MLB has decided that gate revenue is only a fraction of revenue and teams are fine with it. The Sox will be in Chicago for the foreseeable future one way or another. When something changes I am sure we will all see it but this Nashville talk and this article are not it.1 point

IMO that "bad neighborhood" perception has faded quite a bit. Yeah, once in a while I still hear people remark that the current stadium is next to "the projects", but not so much any more. The real issue with the current location is the lack of much else to do around the ballpark. That may have been fine in the past, but more and more, teams are finding they need to surround their ballpark with things for fans to do before or after the game to put enough fans in the seats. We've seen the Cardinals and Braves do this in recent years. The Phillies and Mets are now planning to do the same. Is the answer to move the Sox to The 78? That'll be up to the Ishbia brothers, and their billions in fortune, to decide. Maybe they'll decide the current park and location is "just fine" as some die hard Sox fans have said. Even in that case, I can't imagine their plan is to sink all that money into buying the team only keep the team surrounded by acres of parking lots and not much else for the next 30-40 years. So, maybe their plan would be to keep the Sox at the current stadium but see about redeveloping much of the parking.1 point
-
I think the state might be willing to contribute towards a stadium for the Sox, but ownership needs to contribute significantly more than what Jerry originally signaled. Hopefully Ishbia eventually helps on that front. I am generally against public funding for stadiums, but I do think a major investment in the 78 would warrant some public money.1 point
