  1. Given their record last two years, Major League Baseball is their kryptonite. Let’s be honest, our MVP this year is completed game due to rain.

  5. I thought they had a good chance at a double play but they couldn't even get one out. What the f*** is Amaya doing up here if he hits .100 and can't make a play any good defensive shortstop makes?

  6. He is what he always has been. He peaked in college. It happens.

  7. Venable did not have a good game. With Fermin being a good bunter, you have to have the 3B field that ball.

  8. I get angry every time they fail at fundamental baseball. They're major leaguers. Far too often they don't execute basic plays. It's one thing to be beat by better players. It's another to lose because you play like clowns.

  9. Amaya, Taylor - these clown-asses need to be off the team. It's ridiculous to load the team with 27th men. Royals didn't do squat all game, and they win.

  10. Might be a crazy thought but isn’t Dom Fletcher better than Palacios or Taylor? He plays good D!

  11. Baldwin really needs to stop with this bunting stuff unless he figures out how to actually execute it under game conditions.

  16. This fits the Sox PR moves during the Reinsdorf era to a tee. Four decades of eliminating as much character and charm from the ballpark experience as possible and driving away fan favorites: Harry Caray, Nancy Faust, Jason Benetti. Hawk was a fan favorite but a total JR ass kisser. It's no wonder the market share for this team has sunk to new lows (it's not just the on the field product). Quite a few other teams still have organists. I know it's a dying art and I'd imagine finding actual organists must be getting more difficult over time, but it's been so integral to the Sox game experience for decades and it's so typical of the Sox to white wash it away.

  17. Vaughn has put up exactly 0 bWAR in 5+ years at the MLB level. 595 games, 2,395 plate appearances. If he was just straight up released tomorrow there shouldn't be anyone who thinks "wow, they gave up on him pretty quickly." How this was used as dig at people overreacting is wild.

  18. From what I was told by an individual involved in setting the date for Nancy's retirement, several dates were suggested and it was finally agreed to the date in September if I remember right. To be fair to JR, the date happened to be during one of the Jewish high holy holidays and he wasn't able to attend. Some were saying that was deliberate so that he wouldn't have to hear it from the crowd. All I can tell you is Nancy was hurt by the fact that they didn't attend. I heard from Nancy this morning and she is really excited to be able to play again for Sox fans at home. Don't know the dates or how many times she'll play, she does live in the area in the spring and summer and goes to Arizona in the late fall and winter.

  19. It's not a slow start to one year. It's 4 bad to mediocre years PLUS a bad start to the 5th.

  20. Spoke with Nancy yesterday and today she was bringing her organ accessories to the park at 1PM. Sox are going to supply the organ itself, she wanted to set everything up and get some practice in. It will be in her old location at the park. She said that Brooks wasn't part of bringing her back but it was Jeff Szynal, who runs the scoreboard operations and is the Sox historian who was the driving force.

  21. Seems about right. I hope it's not the Reds. None of their position players do it for me. But I'd say yeah a top 50ish guy and a fringe 100 guy, and then 1 or 2 lotto tickets.
    1 point
  22. What we thinking, like a MLB top 50 guy and then a couple like back end top 150 types (so an org's 4-6th type)? I'd argue we should be getting as many lotto tickets as possible, who cares how far away anybody is from MLB, just continue to reset with quantity as it has a quality of its own.

  23. i dont buy Vaughn is lacking any effort anyone else has. Could very well be he did workouts separately from the Osik group. the main takeaway here is MLB is super difficult and high draft picks bust all the time. during Vaughn's career MLB pitching underwent a total sea change and there was no adaptation made to that

  25. Who do we trust more, McCann (who we know prepared for games pretty meticulously) or a guy that Vaughn beat out for a role in the minors? Obviously, it may have changed after Vaughn's rookie year when he's trying to prove himself.

  26. Have him replace Amaya on the roster. You've got Meidroth, Baldwin and Rojas who can cover SS.

  27. What makes AV an entitled prima Donna? Literally strikes me as the opposite. Simply due to that Osik dudes tweet? AV has hit in 6 of 7 games and reached base in 12 straight. Still hitting the ball hard. Maybe just maybe things are turning a bit.

  28. I don’t know where else to put this but do you know who else should be headed to Arizona to work with Ryan Fuller for a couple of weeks? Brooks Baldwin. I think he’s a fun guy, and can be a positive player for the Sox as a super utility guy but the offensive profile right now is dangerously bad. He only walks 4% of the time, league average is 8.4% so far this year. He hits the ball on the ground nearly 50% of the time at 47.1%. He has a launch angle of 12.3 degrees, which is well below league average of 20 degrees, and well below the desired sweet spot of 30 degrees. His launch angle is also down about 13.4 degrees. He doesn’t see a lot of pitches, he doesn’t take his walks, he hits the ball into the ground way too much. He needs to overhaul his swing

  29. It seems like the only thing keeping Vaughn in good stead with management (other than his contract) is Steve Stone's on-air promotion of him. Not sure why Stone continues to back Vaughn like he is a relative but no time to play favorites. Vaughn invariably fails in clutch situations, so much so that it has become maddening. Scouts have had the book on him for years and that book continues to work time and again. Enough already. Give someone else his at-bats.

  32. Bought one of the hats when I was there this weekend. I agree that it doesn't replace the old one but a nice variant to have.

  33. I was slightly negative on the jerseys before seeing the hats and finished product on the players, now I'm slightly positive. I agree the hat will be a big seller, it just has a nice design to it that's unique and nostalgia tinted at the same time.

  34. I was at the games over the weekend and at the team stores and Grandstand. They were crowded with fans looking at the new City Connect apparel. From what I saw people were 't buying alot of the new stuff. The new jerseys are nice but it looks too much like a Bulls jersey. I also think the previous City Connect jerseys are better looking than the new ones. I would think that most fans would rather have old ones instead of the new ones. I'm guessing that the new numerous City Connect hats will be more popular than the new jerseys. I don't know if they release the merchandise sale results but I don't think the new City Connect items will be as popular as the old ones.

  35. Elko is still a slugger. If you are waiting for him to improve much on a 29/30% strikeout rate, you may as well leave him in Charlotte as a career minor leaguer and forget about him. The truth is, Vaughn is a bust and can’t hit anyways and Elko isn’t getting any younger. It should be an easy decision.

  39. I mentioned starts to seasons and that's what you responded to. It's great that you're complaining about something completely different, now. Nope. You just know the game you all play. Get exposed as wrong, then move the goalposts to something else.

  40. Worst part is that there was plenty of room in the budget to sign both. Would have completely changed the direction of the franchise.

  41. It's really a damn shame. Seriously. Feel Harper would have been an amazing fit here. A fan favorite and a real leader. And Harper, especially if you listen to him, is pretty thoughtful about these kind of things. He wasn't just out there chasing the biggest paycheck. He wanted a place where he felt a genuine connection to and he felt that with the Sox.
