That guy thought the Sox could use Alexander Canario but not Robert. I'd rather take my chances on a guy who actually accomplished something with 5 tools CF and 28 yrs old than a 25 yr. old guy who hasn't done anything with less tools. However when rebuilding you don't preclude anyone with upside and either one would fit that bill for trade purposes.
The point of actually signing Robert again wouldn't necessarily be to keep him but to trade him again.
Lots of people think the Sox should sign higher quality free agents to get better returns at the TDL.
Of course that just gives guys like that more reasons to say Getz can't judge talent and is wasting money when slightly more expensive free agents fail, which is almost as likely as the cheap pickups failing. You can be sure he'll be there to rain on your parade and convince you to give up hope .
There's still work to be done . Stay positive. You won't see him telling you that there were rumors that 40 analytical people were hired . I heard that on a recent Future Sox podcast . Can't remember if it was Hot Takes and Heaters or the show with Elijah Evans & Dylan Barnas MLB Draft Recap and Analysis. But it was a very recent podcast , not more than a day or 2 old.
Podcasts are a whole other world than here where the outlooks are generally more optimistically forward looking. Not necessarily Merkin style but Elijah Evans in particular knows his stuff and he, like James Fox, are often interviewed for other podcasts like CHGO White Sox, Locked On White Sox, Sox in the Basement , and Sox Machine with James Fegan all who aren't just doom and gloom but present a more balanced outlook .
