  1. The adrenaline of pitching in front of sold out crowds at the Rate will offset all of that.

  7. An elite closer is most valuable to a team in the playoffs. A great closer on a bad team is almost a worthless player to have. Not only that, but an above average starter is worth more to the team and the market than a great closer, but a great closer might nab you a little more at a deadline and be easier to trade. That I would concede. Throwing in the towel on him as a starter is a huge loss for the organization. Most closer tenures of dominance are pretty short lived, and even truly dominant starters have ups and downs that move them through 4-5-6 organizations in a career.

  8. The Sox already committing to another year of Taylor in the bullpen is a disaster. Insane the Sox did not/have not looked into trading Taylor if he's purely a bullpen arm. What a waste of an arm, and I know some will point to Crochet's shift but that's just not reasonable to expect of someone. Taylor will be 24 all of next season. I don't buy for a second the Sox think he can start because no way they waste all this time on his starter development just so they can get some quality relief innings out of him.

  13. Sure because he’s not good and no where close to earning his contract. If he was putting up 3+ WAR every year, no one would care much about his contract. Instead, he’s been worse than replacement level. 2023: 0.4 bWAR 2024: -0.8 bWAR 2025: 1.0 bWAR

  16. Final year of our current lease at Guaranteed Rate and my guess is having a new stadium in place is critical to whatever agreement they came to. And it sounds like Ishbia will be super involved in the stadium process as likely future controlling owner and current majority owner.

  17. Last year you were just telling us that we didn't have room for all of our pitchers.

  18. Wheeler, your point is valid. It was the highest offer and strong possibility he accepts when you offer the most. With Machado though.... I could offer 3 million for the house Ishbia is building on the lake, but it doesn't make my offer serious since there was no real chance he would accept when he could get much more guaranteed from other buyers. That said, Pirates have already spent more money than the Sox on a guy.

  23. Jerry said that the 2023 season was personally embarrassing for him so he hired Getz to bring the Sox back to respectability and winning without wasting a year. Getz proceeded to lower payroll and have two losing seasons after that. Are you going to believe anything Jerry says? Indeed. He’s a snake oil salesman.

  25. That's why SD succeeded for a decade. Weather and home stadium/surrounding environment. Relative safety of the city is top notch as well. Plus you're 3-4 hours closer for Pacific flights. Flyover territory is not for everyone. There's a reason 80% of mlb resources are allocated to the East and West coasts. Chicago is a great city in the heart of the summer months...but the equivalent of London for nine months out of the year. Growing up in Iowa, trips to see the Sox play were always so exciting as a young kid filled with wonder at all the skyscrapers riding the EL museums art galleries the lakefront shopping malls food fests Air Show etc. Heck, just the mystique of Michael Jordan was enough.

  26. I want something to be interested in until a new owner changes the way we operate. 100-loss seasons are unacceptable in my opinion. For the record...I like Getz. It's Jerry who has worn out his welcome with me.

  30. They said last off-season that they weren't eliminating his future as a starter, and we're taking it year to year.... but they were clear he was going to be a bullpen guy this year? When did that happen before today? You can spin this however you'd like. It's a large blow to this teams future with Taylor being destined for the bullpen long term. He was one of the few high level arms they had, and the other two are also facing significant challenges.

  33. Aside from the final play, I think 2 other plays really changed the game yesterday. The first was Loveland's drop/fumble right after the interception. Caleb made a good throw, but Loveland could not complete the catch going to the ground. Nice play by the Packers' safety as well. If they convert that catch, they get the ball at the 20 after a big momentum swing on the INT. They get at least 3 points off it instead of punting the ball right back. It probably changes the entire tone of the first half. The 2nd was the 3rd and 2 on the Packers' 2nd to last drive, where the Bears had 4 guys surround Jacobs behind the LOS and let him go right through for 21 yards. Just piss poor tackling. I know Jacobs is hard to bring down, but come on. That should never ever happen in the NFL. If you tackle him for a loss there, they most likely kick a FG and it completely changes the way that the final drive is managed. That TD they gave up right before half was also a huge back breaker. You finally score points and hope to stop the Packers from scoring in the middle 8, and what happens? Your highest paid DB decides to not play his deep half and lets a deep crosser get right behind him for a TD. People want to blame Brisker for that play, but that's really not his responsibility. There is no way that the left side deep half is supposed to carry with a post like that. It also wouldn't have made any sense to have no real deep zone for the entire right side of the field. I know Jaylon Johnson needs time to get back up to speed, but his mistakes yesterday were purely mental.

  34. Been saying exactly that. Taking their ball and going home. Such crybaby fans, and apparently the school as well. Teams get screwed every year in a way that benefits Notre Dame, but the one time it happens back to them, it’s an unheard of tragedy. I’m loving it.

  35. Calling Ronny a prospect is a stretch. Was worse in 2025 than 2024 at A level, his power evaporates year by year and he’s ok behind the plate but can’t throw anybody out. If he ever reaches mlb, he’s likely a 1b without any power. I’d be surprised if he ever gets past AA frankly. If you’re the Red Sox, I guess it’s better than DFAing a guy for nothing but the dude is the epitome of a lotto ticket.

  36. I don't get it. Can someone explain what makes 2029 a magical year for consummating an ownership turnover? The two parties apparently agree on the price. Why would the new owner want Jerry to select a ballpark site instead of himself? Jerry could drop dead tomorrow or live til 100. Estate issues are not really an explanation for selecting 2029. I can't understand a billionaire investing money while saying, "Sure, Jerry...you can run my investment into the ground for the next three years." If Ishiba is committed to buying the WS, I imagine he could negotiate ballpark and salary cap issues, as well as those with Jerry. I just don't get it.

  39. Sox got Vasil from Tampa Bay after they released him after picking him in the Rule 5. Boston may have given up 4 future major leaguers in the Crochet trade. How often does that happen ? Actual scouting and player development wins. Doesn't really sound like errand boy stuff to me. Also picked up a MLB All Star starting pitcher and 100 IP quality relief pitcher in the one of most successful Rule 5 drafts in its history. 2 quality MLB pitchers for practically nothing out of thin air .The amount of consternation of low level minor leaguers is odd . They aren't all Fernando Tatis, Jr. If any of them ever has 1 season on par with Smith or Vasil let me know. These are the types of trades you're going to get when your MLB player resources are restricted by finances. Your currency becomes flesh. That's the only process you have to keep in mind like it or not. Of course some of the MLB types you get will flame out long before the prospects do. You know that going in when you're making transactions of little consequence scouring the fringe talents to supplement our usual fringe talent that hardly ever becomes quality talent from the Rule 5 . Building a solid MLB team from picking needles from haystacks is a terribly inefficient way to try to improve yet this is the state of the franchise until new ownership takes over.

  40. He has to be better than that. Think he started the game 0/6. His inconsistent play has been overlooked because of the victories, but there have been very few games this season where he’s been the better QB on the field for all 60 minutes. Need more from the No. 1 overall pick
