The fact that Getz feels it's necessary to say that he and Brooks Boyer had to convince Jerry to sign Murakami is embarrassing, yes. It's a 2 year $34 million deal. That type of thing doesn't even cross the owner's desk in most places. Sox are in a good place. I'm excited for the future. I'll never forgive Reinsdorf for how he runs his teams though. He deserves no credit because he's a lazy old man who refuses to understand why he's been bad at this for so long. It's 3 playoff series wins in 40+ years of ownership. The day that he's no longer calling the shots will be one of the greatest in the history of the franchise.8 points

He doesn't usually broadcast when things will happen. He can check to verify something with a very, very good source though so he's generally right about finding out stuff that isn't true.7 points

They can’t draft higher than 10th in 2027. If both Murakami and Imai fall into their lap and you’re holding onto Robert because you don’t like offers, you might as well go semi-all in. Add Giolito. Add Bellinger. Add good talent while spending no draft picks.7 points

What does KatyPerryswetbootyhole have to say about this. That is the source we can trust.6 points

Correct, it just seems like more and more things have been coming up Milhouse for them as of late. We've been so used to bad luck and misfortune that being optimistic is slightly off-putting.6 points

Imagine having to beg for an exception to sign a guy for 34 million total in the modern game.6 points

It’s fun to be in these kind of rumors as opposed to “Sox have interest in Josh Rojas”4 points

But why would "Boras using the White Sox for leverage" come via Japanese media rather than more typical stateside sources?4 points

The problem is, if you commit to him being full-time DH, you’re relegating Quero to the bench. And I’d rather rotate the catchers there to get them the most at bats in a lost season.4 points

I mean... the only way the Sox end up with these guys is if they get contracts smaller than Jorge polanco so far. Which apparently required an overhead projector presentation on transparency film to the chairman by Getzy and Brooks. Don't disagree it's nice to be in a rumor... I guess.3 points

I believe you are combining the names of two separate but reliable sources. It was KatyPerrysBootyHole and wetbutt23. Butt yes, they were both legendary sources.3 points

He was unwell. He needed a colonoscopy from all of those cheesy beefs blocking him up.3 points

If that were the case, I think the report would've come from Heyman. Reports from an international free agent's own country are usually more accurate than what we get from even the best reporters in the US If Boras was indeed able to leverage the Japanese media in that way and didn't have to use the usual cronies, then more power to him3 points

I think most teams would be happy with Taylor, Leasure, Wikelman, Vasil out of the pen all making nothing. Newcomb is a nice addition from the left side, though he might start. Gilbert, Eisert, the two rule 5 guys are less than ideal. Bush, Murphy, Schweitzer, perhaps Schultz and Hagen could all potentially shore up the left side of the pen. Wasting money on the bullpen is a fool’s errand if you ask me. Relievers are too volatile.3 points

If the Sox sign Imai, they’re basically a .500 team. In that division, that would make you a contender. Let’s get it done!3 points

If we really are trying to win, it doesn't make sense to trade Robert for 30 cents on the dollar.3 points

Couple of immediate takeaways on the positional side: I don’t love having three catchers on the roster. I get the conceptual reason, but I don’t think it’s all that beneficial in reality. If Teel or Quero were to get injured mid game while catching and we had to sacrifice the DH for one game then so be it. As such, I do think there is a real chance one of the catchers is moved before OD. Lee is out of options and I think he’s the most likely one to be moved, but we also know that the Sox have been listening on Quero. I don’t see how this roster can justify keeping both Sosa & Mead as they are highly redundant players. Sosa obviously is further along with the bat, has shown an ability to hit both LH & RH pitching, and technically played SS in the minors (and theoretically could play there in a pinch). Neither has options and Sosa clearly has zero chance of making it through waivers. My guess is Mead ends up getting traded or DFAed ahead of OD, but if you believe in his talent the more prudent move would be to cash in on Sosa and hope Mead can develop into a similar player next season. I really think we need to add another outfielder and ideally a LH one. I don’t believe that Benintendi should be the primary LF due to his terrible defense, but right now there is no one on the roster capable of dethroning him. There aren’t a ton of options in free agency, but Tauchman would make a ton of sense for us at the right price. Have him and Baldwin in the corners with Pereira as a weak-side platoon for Brooks and I can see a passable OF start to form until Braden is ready for a shot. This shifts Benintendi to a reserve role and part time DH and forces Hill to Charlotte.3 points

And to tack on to that, after all of the massive Japanese players and the massive revenue streams that it has opened for teams, that also had to be explained to Jerry in 2025. Again the top anchor around the ankle of any Sox GM is Jerry and until that changes, this is who the Sox are.3 points

His fame and the interest that comes with him far exceeded his salary. Normally I would agree, but these weren’t ordinary circumstances.2 points

The Japanese media doesn’t get utilized by agents the same way that US-based insiders do. And candidly speaking, the Sox wouldn’t be the team they’d want to use for such a threat. At minimum, the Sox are legit exploring the Imai market. If for some reason it’s weaker than expected or teams don’t want to commit massive dollars ahead of the Jan 2nd deadline, then perhaps there is a path where the Sox actually land him. Let’s not understate the Ishbia aspect here. If you’re Boras, you want to form a strong relationship with Ishbia from the get go. He and his brother will be the second wealthiest owners in the MLB when their deal completes and have a shown a willingness to take big swings in the NBA. That is exactly the type of owner Boras wants to be close with and doing a deal on Imai if the market isn’t great is a good to start fostering that relationship.2 points

I think they’re better off from the right side than others do. Taylor had freakishly bad luck. I think he’s a stud. Leasure looked like a leverage arm late last year, especially if that splitter continues to develop. Berroa has a shot. Vasil is more lucky than good, but he has the stones to pitch late. It’s the lefties I don’t like.2 points

Posted elsewhere before I saw this thread where it's much more relevant: I don't really see the need to just dump Benintendi. Sox could certainly do worse than a league average bat at DH, as we've proven plenty over the past decade. When healthy, Benintendi is fine, and all things considered, his salary is high for the Sox, but not among his peers. Could the Sox do better? Yah, of course. Will they do better if they dump him for a shitty overpaid pitcher? Almost certainly not.2 points
