  1. At a conference and a presentation on pitching analytics. What teams are doing with in the last couple years is crazy. A couple of significant takeaways. 1. The data collected from start to start is really expanding. An example used was looking at the weather during a previous start and weight loss down to the ounce after showed issues. So the pitch count for the next game was decreased due to that extra stress and nutrition from the recovery. Pitch count is more than just gameday. 2. An issue with data and analytics is still that technology can't accurately measure pitching. The arm moves at 7000 degrees per second. Cameras and wearable just cant measure it accurately. 3. Best way to keep a pitcher deathly is to really train the body physically. This takes up to eight months. Only way to do this is they aren't pitching which pitchers cant do. Unless they are out due to an injury. Cited the way the White Sox rehabbed Crochet as the new way all organizations are approaching the pitcher body during rehab. 4. During predraft camp, 95% showed rotator cuff pathology, 85% showed abnormalities in the UCL. Especially , pitchers from SEC and old PAC 10. Pitchers come to the MLB preinjured.

  3. Like you said you win or Acuna develops into a legit good player its mostly forgotten. I just dont see a world in which fans start relating to him on a human level . Anyone wanting to cut him some slack usually do already. I dont even know what copping to it would entail. Is there a truth or feasible enough explanation out there that make it even a little better ? The damage is done, just need to move on and hope Acuna becomes a reliably good player . It's a shame that a series of mental blips or whatever actually happened put the focus back on him right after that trade and the subsequent reinvestment of the money that got the Sox 6 other players and a 2 for 1 PTBNL for Robert and a pitching prospect. I'll echo what others have said about how crazy it is that it took that trade to allow Getz to have more money . That's on JR and is much more agregious to me.

  4. I wish we could trade Quero for equal value - prospect wise.

  5. Agreed. I’m not defending him. I just think that’s what likely happened. But yeah, the fact that no one corrected Getz after he made the same misstatement four times is scary.

  7. Yeah look, I could even see getting the LAST guy into the deal confused a LOT easier than the headliner. You are right that Acunas name had been in the rumor mill since the first Mets rumor reporting. He is 100% the guy they should have studied the most and in excruciating detail. If the last guy, who was a newly drafted 12th round pick from a non-baseball school was the one you mixed up, it would have been more understandable. Not great mind you, but lack of exposure, recent pro, last guy in a deal could come from a list of guys, or even be the guy added in last minute to sufficiently sweeten a deal to close it. Acuna is the headliner. He even has MLB ABs, not to mention the YEARS of MiLB stuff. He should be all over you analytics studies. He's the reason you made the deal. He's the reason you picked this deal instead of a better talent offer, but including cash, to the Reds. He's the reason you might have taken a lesser Mets offer instead of including cash. Acuna is the guy you can't miss on, and you are making a literal back of baseball card mistake on? And not one person in the organization fixes is after 4 times? If he really doesn't do research into the work his people underneath him are doing in a trade, to the point where he doesn't know the players he is getting, why is he the GM?

  9. For those of you that intend to watch college games, Joe Doyle's website Over-Slot has a feature I've long been wanting and it's incredible. There's a "Games" tab that shows all of the games for the day, along with links to where they can be streamed (you still need to have the streaming service) with draft rankings of notable players and what draft class they belong to right next to it. It's beautiful. Check it out. https://overslotbaseball.com/live-games/

  16. I just watched the Garfien interview with Tanner McDougal heard him say that he viewed TJ surgery as a blessing in disguise . He talks about the time off allowing him to not only grow into his body to also how the rehab got him into healthy routines that made him realize at this level you can't just roll out of bed and succeed. You have to be a professional. So I previously talked about Crochet physically maturing along with the whole rehab process turning him into a beast is how McDougal explained having a great 2025 . I don't know what McDougal weighs now but he looks quite a bit heavier than the 185 he said he was .

  18. I watched an interview in which Acuna talked about his groundouts with the Mets. He said he worked on his launch angle to lift the ball, since he thinks he has enough power to drive the ball and so he can avoid all the groundouts. Maybe that’s why he showed up in the VWL. @fathom should like hearing that. I also saw footage of him. Dude is Madrigal height but way more ripped. He is definitely not a weak short dude. He is a buff short dude so I doubt he only has pathetic Madrigal pop.

  19. You should have retrieved the garbage bag, ripped it open, held it up to her nose, and calmly told her, “Because it smelled like s%*#.” Regarding the Robert trade, even though the return was MEH, I actually still appreciated that Getz replaced Robert with a guy who can potentially play CF if he can learn to hit. I would have been more disappointed if he took back a mediocre pitching prospect and left a gaping hole at CF. Although, Acuna at CF not being a gaping hole is still TBD. At least it sounds like he should be able to play the position defensively. Hopefully, Derek Hill stays in the minors all season long.

  20. It's like one of those arguments where your spouse/partner wants to know WHY did you close up and throw out the garbage bag when she once asked you to let her know before you're going to do it. And it's not going to drop until you give an answer "why", you know, analyze your own behavior you gave no thought to, in the moment, and be very tactful and calm about it or you have anger issues. And every sentence is a new line of attack, but how could you even think that I'm just waiting for a sentence to attack?!?!? I guess sports talk and SoxTwitter is all like therapy. Dudes get to be the boss and throw "fire-able offenses" around.

  21. I'd take Hays and Fedde. I believe Fedde has a higher ceiling than Quintana if you take 2024 into consideration. And even though Hays elicits an eyeroll over his "Jesus protect me from sin" stuff over LBGTQ day, Castellanos seems like a real clubhouse cancer.

  26. Hope you don't mind , I cleaned up a few things with point 3. Mainly changed deathly to healthy as I'm sure you intended . I'm very pleased with this development but Im not sure the anti Getz crowd will be though who never wanted to give Bannister in conjuction with the medical staff any credit with putting Crochet in the best position possible to come back stronger with the kind of training he had to do. I often said he came back much bigger and stronger and along with his body perhaps maturing physically while doing the training you are speaking about it enabled him to stay healthy and pitch more innings than any of of thought. Im not saying it will work on everyone the way it did with Crochet. I just saw a much bigger guy and pointed it out that it probably went hand in hand with natural growth and work out and nutrition program that enabled him to reach a physical peak. After that it was Bannister and Katz tweaking his pitch mix to better get RHH out and becoming a more efficient pitcher. Every time I proposed that theory I got strong pushback from people who said it was all Crochet. Of course Crochet deserves a lot of credit. He listened to the medical people and his coaches and reached his upside. Huge development win for the people Getz hired . It's nice to see that the rest of baseball took notice of this and the Sox are at the forefront. It's a lot better than reading crazy made up Soxtalk theories that all the TJ surgeries could be Bannisters fault without so much as explaining why . Just a wild accusation based on nothing except a crazy thought in someones head looking to place blame.

  27. I was mostly addressing that you didnt like him brushing off the incidents with humor. I asked if you know what he could say to own up to whatever happened and still not get ripped apart and prolong the memory of whatever happenened ? Do you think it was something he should be fired for ? What do you propose ?

  30. I've stuck up for you numerous times because of needless bullying because your posting style is unique . And you are polite. I like level headedness. Im not particularly fond of people acting like a pack of wolves or HS jocks picking on the nerds. I also attended a seminary HS . I haven't changed except over the years I grew tired of bullying posting styles. All the guys with hive mindedness, wolfpack or Lord of the Flies type behavior that shows up when the Sox are bad but not the 1st rebuild oddly and Jerry left Hahan and KW in charge after they just traded away some of their best young talent. JR wasn't as hated then as he is now and Getz is viewed as either a JR suckup , a part of the previous madness an inexperienced buffoon. I view him as a JR pawn in a no win job that he was smart enough to know he wasnt the brightest bulb in the room nor were the Sox the brightest most modern team. And he hired people with good reputations to help him and has tried to modernize after years of neglect in many areas. What he doing is building a foundation which future GMs can build upon for the betterment of the team once he is gone. I have no idea how long it'll take to have a 15-16 yr old international signee from the DR become a decent MLB player but I do know that it could happen in the next 10 years more than it ever happened in JR's entire 40+ years tenure since it hasnt happened once while DR players were proliferating in MLB. That's what's a travesty, not Getz mixing up a players handedness in his head. That's what's a very bad look for over 40 years of wandering in that desert. We are all just small fish in this small pond of Soxtalk. What we say or how much our opinions may vary ultimately means nothing .But it is how we treat each other that ultimately means something.

  33. I never cared for Castellanos as a player. He is legit dangerous on fastballs down in the zone, but there are holes up and he is one of the worst outfielders I have ever seen. Sox do not need a short side platoon DH with character questions on their young team, imho.

  34. Sure. But if you are a general manager of a major league baseball team, and you trade your biggest asset(kinda) for someone, I would assume at the bare minimum you watch them hit at least......once? How often do you hear a player traded say "its an honor someone would want to trade for me." Now Acuna hears well the general manager didnt even bother to learn my game. Is it the biggest deal in the world? No. Is it alarming? Yeah it kinda is. Shows you he has absolutely no fear of losing his job either.

  35. From the article: “It gives me a sense of comfort now knowing that I am who I thought I was at the time,” Cholowsky said. “The thing with me is just the want to win. I don’t think I could ever put a level to how competitive I am. I don’t think there’s something to even measure that. That’s what’s put me into the spot I am, because of how bad I want things and how bad I want to learn.” 😍
