  1. I really don't care about the advertisements on uniforms. If it helps get baseball back on the field, I'm for it. Maybe it'll end up being like a minor league game where everything that happens is sponsored by someone. "That strikeout is sponsored by Allstate, and that argument between the batter and umpire is sponsored by Budweiser. Oh, and that dust being kicked onto homeplate by the manager is sponsored by Dirt Devil,"

  4. Well said and couldn't agree more. The talking heads that want to make this ONLY about police don't understand what this is all about. This is about being SEEN and HEARD as an equal. White privilege has nothing to do with having more money or success. It is about being able to live a normal life because our skin is white and if your skin color is different you are viewed differently. THAT is what needs to be changed. And this is a problem across any political persuasion you align yourself to. The police is a small part of a larger problem, albeit a part that helps keep POC down. Police system was built to keep POC down. The whole system is setup to keep POC down. KW was also right that black people can't do this on their own. They need white people, Asian people, Hispanic people, etc. The more voices of different backgrounds is the only way things get changed.

  5. Well bless your heart. Your computer can only access one website and you picked ours. Be careful on that stack of bibles, they get stacked mighty high there in Kansas. We don't want you to fall and hit your head again. Anytime you want to drop the country bumpkin act it would be nice. There are some folks here that would appreciate your actual intelligent side. Perhaps make meaningful contributions to threads.

  7. man Collins is not as bad of a catcher as some people make him out to be. He is a below ave catcher. He is not the butcher Mercedes is. He more than acceptable to catch 30-40 games in a regular season. And if he hits in the bigs he will be a very valuable piece to have.

  8. eh, as someone who was very negative on negotiations, THIS is what final negotiations look like. Yesterday was the first real movement from owners, players take it back to get more, owners say No way, the worst we'll do is X, then it signs. If the owners then propose 54 games tomorrow, then we're back to hell zone.

  9. Just settle on 64 games, for f***s sake.

  10. I was reading that many in the industry think up to 300 players are going to be non tendered next offseason. If somehow you have little debt, cough JR,and not a big payroll, cough JR, getting a ton of talent for a very reasonable price can be done.

  14. Kinda wondering why owners should have guaranteed profit margins at the expense of contracts they've signed and agreed to. It's not like players' salaries suddenly increase if the teams make more money than expected.

  18. They should definitely televise that extended AFL season. It would be fun to watch those "prospect teams". Is my missing of baseball showing too much?

  19. Have you heard Rosemont because I've heard North Central College? Also, the extended fall league the way it was initially described sounds awesome. Every team would have their own "prospect team" during an extended AFL season. It would be pretty cool.

  21. I am 100 percent for my $1 million reparations plan. I think it would go a long ways toward making up for slavery and appeasing future riots, etc. Again ... a million bucks per family should get almost everybody on their feet and out of poverty and feel like America is truly righting a wrong. If $1 million per individual and/or family isnt' enough, I don't know what to say about that. Make the wealthiest individuals pay as much of the tax as we deem possible, then print the rest of the money and the economy deals with it later. How come nobody is commenting on my reparations plan? Can you imagine the debates? Trump is going to be against reparations. Biden for them. Specifics, Joe? Can you imagine if he says, $5000 per family or something? That's why I say $1 million. It's indisputably fair. Anything Joe promises is going to be very very insulting folks. 2000 dollars? Cmon.

  22. Thing is ... people won't acknowledge that mean, selfish Greg has actually been a responsible citizen. I've obeyed all government orders here. I have sheltered as much as anybody else. And I wear my mask where it's required for certain and I put it on out of respect if I see those working in the stores have theirs on. I have been a good citizen through all this. My contact with human beings has been very minute until the past week or so. I've noticed traffic is much greater now and things are opening up. Our spike will be incredible when the students come back. Douglas County has had so so so few cases so far here.

  23. This is just another example of how we all hate each other in America. It's doomed. My guess is the violence will be the new normal. We hate each other, let's face it. (You are not going to get consensus on a topic like masks when politics rules the country 24/7).

  30. I believe this is irrelevant to the discussion, however, if necessary, I could obviously point to the 2005 World Series. Perhaps it would be more appropriate to share something more unique: How about in September 1993, when I was fairly young and my parents put me to bed before most White Sox games had concluded. I remember laying in bed, awake, and hearing the TV on in our living room. I heard the call of Bo Jackson's home run to put the Sox up and likely clinch the AL West. I remember waking up the next morning and receiving the confirmation on the radio that the Sox had indeed won, via"WMAQ ALL NEWS 67" as I ate my breakfast before school. How about all of the Sox games my Dad took me to, despite him being relatively indifferent to baseball or sports in general, because he was being a good dad. We would park at what is now known as "Morrie O'Malley's". I remember getting excited as we would walk down 35th toward the park, you knew you were close when you went under the railroad overpass and heard the street vendor's music. Again, this is irrelevant to the conversation.

  31. Yes, because we have such a clear picture of how team revenue streams work, thank god the owners have been so forthcoming with that information.

  32. Memorial Day was the end of this to many. It’s going to take massive K-12 and university closures, or a complete shutdown of NCAA and NFL to get the public’s sustained attention back again. In that sense, news about the three upcoming books is also making it easier to bury things under the rug.

  33. So essentially, the owners-side leaked out that we had an agreement yesterday to create public outcry towards the players. And it worked. This whole thing is such a debacle.

  36. 16 playoff teams long-term may seem like a stretch (I prefer 12 or 14) but in a way, it could actually incentivize mediocre teams (hello 2015-2016 White Sox) to compete rather than rebuild. In doing so, perhaps parity increases along with quality of regular season games since fewer teams are actively trying to lose. This would be different from the NBA since being a 7-8 seed in the NBA playoffs is usually a guaranteed first round exit, whereas in baseball, there's much more room for flukes.

  37. This stands to get the White Sox valuable playoff experience in a developmental season where they otherwise might not have gotten it. That's really all I care about.

  38. I know.....what's the point of the long season then? the point was always to eliminate the variance as much as possible...the cream rises to the top. I agree that it's stupid if 3 of the 8 teams have 79 or fewer wins. Just as recently as 2017 there would have been 3 teams that made the playoffs in the AL under .500 (all with 80 wins), and that same year in the NL a 77 win Marlins team would have qualified.

  39. More and more, it seems a consensus is building around the idea that for any given region once it has bent the curve down and gotten well below health care capacity limits, we would really just need: Masks in public spaces - indoors always, outdoors if unable to maintain distance Special treatment of and precautions in crammed in facilities, long-term care, and for specifically vulnerable populations Avoiding super-large crowd events especially if they involve a lot of vocalization or heavy breathing (concerts, pro sports, etc.) Washing your hands We could literally open up nearly everything else, if only we had a population that was willing to do the masking thing reliably (like 90% or better I guess). But no... there's that quarter or so of the population that have been conned into thinking wearing masks is some kind of conspiracy or made up thing. Other countries don't have that garbage (or at least have a lot less of it). So we in the US are stuck with these uneven and inconsistent lockdowns instead, damaging the economy even further and killing more people. Again... if you are in that quarter, GFY.

  40. This is powerful. I watched the whole thing. This is coming from someone who is both rich and well known. He has the benefit of a Stanford education, and has risen to the top of his profession, and he still tells the same stories about how he is treated. This is way bigger than don't break the law and the cops won't kill you. This isn't work hard and go to school and you will be treated the same. It destroys a lot of the myths that we tell people today.

  42. I am OK with the Sox not being a part of it, even if it means missing out on top talent. Exploitation of families and kids isn't worth a few more baseball wins. That article is horrifying what is being done to the families involved here.

  43. It's part of it. Reinsdorf is very much opposed to signing kids at 13-14. Everyone else is doing it though. It's gross but they're behind because of it. He doesn't spend at the top of the market on free agents but he also doesn't spend on 16-year-olds. It's pretty bad business.

  44. I just love everything the owners have done to increase interest in baseball and save the sport the past few years Add a wild card spot Cut 42 minor league teams Shorten the draft Let the Astros off with a slap on the wrist because public judgement will be their true punishment Push back J2 signings Call the World Series trophy a piece of metal Get Congress to pass the "Save America's Pastime Act" to allow them to continue to pay minor leaguers below minimum wage Make hand over fist money while crying poor Have roughly half the league not even try to compete, but instead follow the Astros/Cubs model and tank hard Try to renege on a previously agreed upon deal, thus preventing baseball from being the first sport back while America was crying out for any sense of normalcy and entertainment Pace of play Hi8is addition: $50 parking Bmags addition: Pissing off Trout as he swims upstream, avoids all the flies, and ricochets through the record books across the universe Addition after James' thread: FBI investigation into their Latin American operations Did I miss anything?

  45. Nobody is comparing Crochet to Chris Sale, the MLB pitcher on a HOF trajectory. They are comparing Crochet to Chris Sale, the 21 year old prospect from FGCU. I think people misuse MLB comps way too much. They're not comparing these kids to fully developed MLB players , but MLB players as prospects at the time they were drafted.

That will suck if some b.s. disease created suspiciously is what takes me from earth. Hope I don't die and you all don't die from this. b.) Well, it's official. The hatred Americans have toward each other is out of control. Some young man at a nursing home in Detroit is caught on tape beating the hell out of an old lady patient. They arrested him later. Hopefully he'll get life in prison. ... and a church in Mississippi burns to the ground over coronavirus concerns. Somebody didn't like them holding services. I wonder if this mask/no mask thing will cause violence soon. People wearing masks attacking those who don't.
