  1. Funny story: when the Sox traded Madrigal and Heuer for Kimbrel, he told me about it in a DM 10 mins prior and I didn’t believe him haha

  2. I don’t buy long COVID. I think he eats like s%*# and doesn’t train like a high level professional athlete.

  3. Maybe him hating the Cubs instead of the rest of the division has contributed to his teams making the playoffs 7 times in 40 years of ownership

  4. Exactly. Best not to ever expect anything because you'll be disappointed most of the time and when you aren't it might be a happy surprise. I got no control so what can I expect ? Hope yes expect , no.

  6. Honestly? That's exactly what you do. You hope he is back to the 2020-21 version for what you owe him. If he bounces back, great. If not, you release him in May or June and call up Perez. There is no risk here. It isn't about pretending, it is about a lack of options. With their limited funds, it isn't like they have a lot to spend here anyway.

  7. This offseason is depressing. I’m skeptical there’s a plan. If there is a plan, then I’m even more skeptical that they have the baseball minds/analysis to make good decisions. Even if they have a sound plan, I’m doubtful they can outmaneuver LA, NYY, TB, HOU, etc

  11. Winker certinly fits the dead cat bounce guy you can get for fringe prospects profile. Hahn is so F'ing predictable.

  12. To me, the white sox depth has arrived. I believe a lot in some of the prospects at the door and continued bat only production from a guy like Burger. That's why it's such a shame this org won't try to get anything closer to big game hunting. On the other hand, we are a top 5 most likely team to land Judge and we can never rule JR out of a big move

  13. It's fascinating what it takes to get fired from the White Sox. Larry Himes builds a 94 win team with the lowest payroll in baseball, gets canned. OK, he's known to be miserable and JR doesn't like him, but fired? Really? Gene Lamont was a pretty good manager. Coming off 2 consecutive division titles, the only White Sox manager ever to do this, his GM guts his team and makes him rely on washed up guys like Sabo and Kruk and Dibble and Stieb. He gets canned quickly. Renteria does what he is supposed to do, gets the rebuild into the playoffs, but only has 2 starters. They obviously lose, everyone would have lost, he's canned. RH, LaRussa, the list is long, of White Sox employees maybe not even mediocre at their jobs with basically lifetime security. It is probably the biggest problem with the organization. Everyone plays favorites, but JR takes it way too far.

  19. The idea that a left handed hitter with a career WRC+ of 126 and .836 OPS is “worth nothing” is ridiculous. Soxtalk: Our front office sucks, they don’t do anything! Also Soxtalk on any available player that’s going to make less than $20mil a year: That player sucks, don’t bring him here! SHOULD this organization just spend some $ and solve our problem with Nimmo? Of course. Will they? Of course not. At some point beggars can’t be choosers and we have to be realistic. If it’s possible to buy low on Jesse Winker it’s definitely not a bad realistic option.

  22. Why didn't the Sox clear all of the riff-raff off of the 40 man roster; it would maximize flexibility to take advantage of opportunities that may arise.

  23. I heard there is going to be some vacant lake front property available after 2026 that can be converted.

  24. 4.0 WAR 3B would be kind of nice. I'm with you. I think there is more there. Hopefully a new staff and a new year get him there.

  26. This is why the Sox are paying Moncada $46M over the next 2 years, in case anyone forgot. It's really a shame that the combination of the juiced ball+long covid derailed him. We'll never know how much. All I know is that he's not that guy anymore and that guy isn't coming back.

  27. If the White Sox came away with two 1 WAR outfielders and one 1 WAR starter I would not consider that a failed offseason. It wouldn’t be great, but that would be an upgrade over Vaughn, Sheets, and Engel in the OF. With seemingly only $20 million or less to spend, I’m ok with that as long as it doesn’t create a long term commitment. The success of the 2023 White Sox will not be determined by finding ideal free agent fits or some great trade, it will be getting more out of guys already here. If that happens then they are potentially in the race, if it doesn’t then the quality of who you spend your $20 million on barely matters.

  28. It makes no sense. Sox will trade him pennies on the dollar and Gio will be a 4 WAR SP in 2023 because the dude wants to get paid.

  29. I really hope not. He was bad last year and I think the Sox need a LHH as a starting caliber guy with a RHH 4th outfielder. I'm hoping that the Sox are trying to buy low on Jesse Winker I'd consider a claim for Barrett as well. Three options left and could play in Charlotte.

  30. I was all over wanting Brantley before he signed with Houston. Many here weren't because of injury history. Now its 4 years later and although still a fine hitter the Sox need guys who can catch the ball. There's no room for " but where would he play" guys. Eloy is the DH, period.

  31. It's an attitude that is cliche atthis point but still can't help but say that I think last year Rick came face to face with the realization that he is not only not as good at this as he thought, but that he's incapable of it. This year is them just retreating into the fetal position as everyone waits for everyone else in the org to end it or voluntarily leave.

  32. yeah trying to reconstruct this deal from the Sox perspective you are probably talking about something like Reynaldo Lopez and Norge Vera, but lefty.

  33. Macko is a 21 year old lefty starter who is #8 in the M's system who averaged about 14 k/9 at A+

  35. Right we are more or less on the same page except rather than sign 2 meh players like Kiermaier and Gallo I'd just sign one and probably the best starting pitcher the Sox can find for $15-20M for 3 yrs max and that would be it. Always need pitching. The rest of the team just fill with young guys ready or not here they come. Seek some defense support the pitchers. It's obvious the Grifol hiring was to get inside the young players heads and see if he can work some "be more like me" magic on them. Work hard, communicate, if you want to be the best do what the best do , stop wasting your talent stuff. Moncada may be a party boy alcoholic and he may need more than Grifol. At least we're hearing Grandal is working with the Hawks strength and conditioning guy. It may be called fluff but still it's a serious attempt to be better. Now if only we can hear about those things as the off season progresses for Moncada and others. It's really what the season hinges on, bounce backs from guys who were injured and terrible . Due for some good luck with Eloy and Robert.

  42. On today’s White Sox Talk Podcast episode, Chuck & Ryan had Jesse Rogers on as their guest and they did their off-season predictions. Here is a summary: Jesse: Giolito to Rays for prospects Kyle Gibson or Zach Eflin replaces Cueto Bounce-back guy like Adam Frazier or internal guys for 2B Sheets & Eloy together will get the playing time in LF & DH Michael Brantley signed to play RF (lol) Sox won’t add a FA with an AAV above $10 (agents not acting like the Sox will have money to spend) Chuck: Eloy to Rays for Brandon Lowe Clevinger replaces Cueto (Chuck points out that we almost acquired him in 2020 and that Mike has actual interest in playing in Chicago) Elvis Andrus brought back to play 2B Kevin Kiermaier or Micheal Brantley for LF Colas is the starting RF Ryan: Giolito to Blue Jays for Teoscar Hernandez Cueto resigned to fill back-of-rotation spot Cheap FA and/or internal guys for 2B Colas is the starting RF (reluctantly) Sox’s biggest FA signing will be a 2nd tier SP The tone of the show matched the pessimism of the predations. May god have mercy on our souls.

  44. The margin for error with pitchers who don't miss any bats is just so thin. If the K rate doesn't rebound, there's a chance Gonzalez goes 2021/2022 Dallas Keuchel.

  46. Sox have become a hard team to root for. Chicagoans are hearty fans and can tolerate many things but a lack of intensity, especially by an otherwise talented bunch, is a huge turn-off. I'm not saying its systemic or there aren't players who really care but there are a handful of guys, specifically position players, who jut seem apathetic and, unfortuately we have locked them into big contracts, for which they now seem content .

  47. I still wonder if the Sox will be in Chicago past this decade. Even though I think Grandpa Ricketts is a turd, the Cubs are actually run like a competent, large market team. The Sox are going to start bleeding fans whether to apathy or jumping ship. If I had a kid I wouldn't want them to be a Sox fan.

  48. 2020 Cleveland basically gave him away because they were furious he went out with Plesac in Chicago, where plesac got covid, lied about it, went on plane with everyone, then got caught lying about all of it. Apparently the whole locker room turned on him and led to the trade. Nut bag might not have been best insult but yes maybe not the best person to add to the miserable mix that is our locker room.
