Why is it that a player has to be completely awful for a year before we get interested in him?6 points

Go sign Austin Hedges and simply accept the fact that offense will suck a fat one next year.4 points

A well-seasoned Rick Hahn was relieved of Semien, Bassitt and Tatis Jr. Experience doesn't play into it.4 points

It's a good thing Jim Bowden isn't the GM of the White Sox because his last two Cease trade proposals absolutely sucked s%*#.3 points

I think his Bummer trade squashed any potential thoughts like that among other executives.3 points

December 2, 1971 - It was the trade that perhaps saved the franchise. Sox player personnel director Roland Hemond sent pitcher Tommy John and infielder Steve Huntz to the Dodgers for disgruntled slugger Dick Allen. Allen, one of the most prolific talents in the game, marched to his own drummer and was deemed difficult to handle by other teams and managers. Somehow Sox skipper Chuck Tanner, who knew the Allen family for years, got the best out of him. Allen would almost single handedly lead the team to the 1972 playoffs, winning the American League’s M.V.P. award. He’d win two home run titles in his three years on the South Side and be named to three All-Star teams. His popularity kept the turnstiles spinning and kept the White Sox solvent. An hour later Hemond, stole pitcher Stan Bahnsen from the Yankees for infielder Rich McKinney. Bahnsen would go on to win 21 games in 1972. https://www.southsidesox.com/2020/12/9/22164784/white-sox-dick-allen-remembered2 points

Hemond was one of the best Sox GMs. Came along just at the right time. He knew how to make a trade and built the 1983 Winning Ugly team.2 points

Good lord he may be the one person in this world who is more annoying than Benetti.2 points

The White Sox franchise has needed a lot of saving in it’s history, wouldn’t it be nice for once if we had an owner who had tons of money and was willing to spend it.2 points

This would be my first choice.2 points

Any cheap veteran catcher that can help the young catchers and pitchers is good with me. That should be the priority. If Maldonado’s defense and game calling have slipped, as some have mentioned, then that’s a disservice to the pitching staff.2 points
-
Never provided much offense, but that’s OK for a catcher. Defensive slid, now Sox are interested? Don’t you actually have to have pitchers he could supposedly help?2 points

Man, Oops! All shortstops does not look great in retrospect unless Preller extracts a bounty here.2 points

I can’t stand Chuck’s voice, but that’s just me. Nothing against the guy, he just annoys me. Watching him dance after a Sox win each time would be entertaining though.1 point

I know this has been rehashed to death but losing Benetti, a lifelong Sox fan, just seems wrong. Not just a fan but perhaps the best young announcer out there. If we need a "sign" at how this franchise is "near" rock bottom, it's losing Benetti. And to do Tigers games? I know $$$ talks but no true Chicagoan wants to spend any time in Detroit. Geez. What a depressing town (just my opinion). I'll take Swirsky.1 point

Maybe because he doesn’t do baseball? Or because his Bulls radio gig would likely cause scheduling issues with the Sox all over again?1 point

I think that Getz is out there talking with GM's and agents about guys who can't play anymore, so that Getz can practice. Kinda like a kid who is just learning how to play the piano, and he's practicing the scales in front of his teacher. Everything is discordant.1 point

Dang. Maybe the fact that I’m past my prime is good enough to get me a minor league contract with a spring training invite. So many local products out here available to sign!1 point

I’m an Illinois native that has sucked lately. I can’t play defense, but I can probably still run a little. Willing to sign for 1 yr/$1 million, Getz.1 point

It’s cheaper that way. It would be a weird signing for a team that’s not delusional. Are they , like JR suggested, trying to win? If so, you need several pitchers. Is it a transitional year? Then you really don’t need this guy. As great as he once was with the glove and calling a game, even the Astros with all their bats were always contemplating replacing him. With the Sox, Pedro may bat him 5th.1 point

"The White Sox are changing their ways" Flashback to Manny Ramirez, Jimmy Rollins, Andruw Jones, Justin Morneau (truly unforgivable), Ken Griffey Jr. (Griffey was good! But he fit the MO), Edwin Encarnacion, Kevin Youkilis, Jose Canseco1 point

I don’t think anyone would be upset if we were talking about prime Salvy, but we aren’t. He would just be another shitty KC import at this stage of his career. And hardly worth the cost to acquire him. Besides, it’s not like the next wave of Sox talent is already in the bigs needing the guidance of a veteran pro.1 point
-
It’s not that he sucks. It’s that he has a ton of miles on his legs, is on the decline, and is very expensive for Jerry standards.1 point

It's weird how, for about 4 rebuilding seasons, we had a replacement-level Sandy Alomar as our catcher in the early aughts, and it seemed like a coup. Everybody even wants him to be in any manager mix because he somehow learned how to "win" in Cleveland. But a Salvatore Perez who could rake, comparatively, sucks because he somehow learned how to lose in Kansas City. Perhaps we should be chasing the garbage Texas won't resign because they have intrinsic wisdom on how to win, now.1 point

Yeah and can mentor Lee and Quero (while he’s in camp). I like this idea better than trading for Sal Perez.1 point
-
They're gonna have to bring in some veteran-type. You can't go into the season with Korey Lee and Carlos Perez as your catchers. Maldonado was (at least before last year) a very good defensive catcher. I'd rather have him as a backup then see Perez on this team. At least he'll be cheap.1 point

The KC Johnson story about how the heat is only on the players for this failure was just such deja vu. Loser owner can't help but replicate loser ways to his other franchise, even if it was given the best winning dna injection it could possibly receive.1 point

I think this is why they are looking to trade him. Seeing as he’s never in the lineup makes it hard to get excited about Eloy.1 point

I definitely respect that. I’m sure he’s a great person too—the on-air act just never landed with me. People do come across differently in other people’s eyes. He came across cheesy and corny to me. I think we should be giving people more reasons to take us seriously at a time like this rather than more reasons to write us off as the clown show the broadcasts often turned into. This is not going to be an easy fix. They keep putting more and more lipstick on the pig. They need a rebuild AND a rebrand IMO.1 point
-
IMO, this is great news. Fun is great, but silly, goofy, fake, overly quirky, convincing everyone you’re the most “clever”—it all leads to disconnect and awkwardness and that gets old quick. Our broadcasts were unwatchable care of the team, and “unlistenable” because of this guy! We need someone real, identifiable and passionate to rebrand the Sox from the booth.1 point

Absolutely. I used to travel in from Indiana for games and there was a day (2018) I forgot to take my mini (2.5”?) Weatherman Swiss knife keychain off my keys before I got on the train into town. I pulled it off and handed it to the guy working the detectors and asked if I could pick it up somewhere on the way out of the game. He took the keychain, put it in the basket, and said “no, we don’t offer that kind of service here,” and took the keychain away. I never saw it again. (Honestly—my fault for forgetting, but that policy is straight up theft if they don’t return the items.) I can’t imagine a detector failure large enough for someone to get a gun into the game. There’s some major PR work to be done on this one.1 point
