I mean... the only way the Sox end up with these guys is if they get contracts smaller than Jorge polanco so far. Which apparently required an overhead projector presentation on transparency film to the chairman by Getzy and Brooks.

To be honest, I was excited about this news until I saw Boras' name and then figured slim chance.

It was fun to read some Cubby fans lose their s%*# though so I'll take that for some end of the year shenanigans.

This would be bonkers, but awesome, assuming it’s another one where the deal is smaller than initially expected.

I’ve seen a TON of Imai; he has really blossomed the past couple seasons after being really wild at the start of his career. I don’t see him as an mlb ace by any stretch, tbh, but I do see him as a #3/4 with youth on his side, which would be a boon for this team of course.

This is one of my favorites but hard to find outside of Japanese grocers:

I don't drink a ton of Sake as I prefer it heated and don't have an ideal method (I'm sure Japan makes one I should look into it) but it really is a smooth way to get buzzed. Nothing like eating a bunch of fresh fish and washing it down with a hot sake. Japan does sensory things well.

I don't see any Lopez comps as mentioned up thread. His deliver is smooth and effortless and while he's not a flame thrower he can sit at 96 for the first few innings with his fastball and mixes in some pretty damn nasty what I would call slurves and straight changes. 

He's probably just like a 4th starter but hell we need those.

Because you keep making this argument over and over and it’s still ridiculous.  How can you look at the current respective payrolls for the Mets and the White Sox and say that the Mets are not even trying yet the Sox actually appear to be trying?  That’s crazy talk.

So the Mets have spent more this off season than the sox, but somehow the Sox are trying and the Mets aren't. Make it make sense.

Yeah, it doesn’t really make sense. A baseball ops department is going to do what they think is best in consideration of the constraints they’re working under. You can argue with their decisions, but whether it’s win now or win later, they’re all trying to win. 
 

It seems evident that isn’t always the case with ownership, or at the very least isn’t a high enough priority. I don’t see how you could argue, given the information we’re privy to, with Cohen’s desire to put a winning product on the field, sleazeball or not. Given that same information, you could make a pretty compelling argument against Jerry, however.

No the key point is actually that they tried (and are still trying btw). The failure is so noteworthy because of how hard they’ve been trying.

I will take that approach 10/10 times over whatever it is that JR does.

OK, lets not confuse 'trying this offseason' and 'signing a guy to a short term deal because long term interest wasn't there from anyone'.

 

This is still the same organization, until at least 2029.
