It was one of the ugliest situations in White Sox history. Former co-owner Eddie Einhorn wanted to move the team to Florida. He said Florida was the greatest opportunity for MLB since the Dodgers moved to LA. Einhorn was walking around Chicago with Florida White Sox shirts. He made so many ugly comments about the White Sox fanbase, he was getting death threats. He was so scared he hired body guards to protect him. Former sports writer Jerome Holtzman said JR took a poll of White Sox investors and half of them wanted to move to Florida. They bought into Einhorns bullshit that Florida was the land of opportunity for baseball. If Governor Thompson hadn't saved the day both JR and Einhorn were going to fly to Florida the very next day to sign the papers to move the team to Florida the following season. JR has said a number of times that he would of sold the Bulls if the White Sox had moved to florida. Say what you want about JR but the one positive thing I can say about him is he is very good at making money. Moving the White Sox to Florida would have been the biggest mistake of his life. It would have been the worse move in the history of sports ownerships. If he would have moved the White Sox to Florida he would have been part owner of the Florida/Tampa Bay White Sox. By staying in Chicago he remained part owner of the Chicago White Sox, part owner of the Chicago Bulls and part owner of the United Center. Baseball in Florida/Tampa Bay has been a flop. The Rays have already gone thru a number of ownerships. The only reason why the team hasn't moved is because they are locked into there lease for another 8 years. If things don't change in St. Pete the next few years that team will move out of there. The main thing is that Governor Thompson saved the team for Chicago. Another positive thing was Einhorn sold most of his shares of the White Sox to JR and he left the scene. You rarely saw him or heard from him after that.7 points

Former Illinois Governor Jim Thompson died today. He was responsible for saving the White Sox for Chicago. If it wasn't for him the team would have moved to Florida and don't let anybody tell you differently.4 points

Can not argue with the facts. Adam Engel has contributed far more to this season than EE. I would hate to see Adam go elsewhere far more than EE.4 points

18 strikeouts 5 walks and 5 hits in 14 innings. Cardinal pitching had not pitched in over 2 weeks. Embarassing4 points

Yeah, certain reporters misquoted him and then ran with it out of context. Ricky’s quotes from tonight, on the other hand, are embarrassing4 points

Abreu loves playing with zero pressure. He doesn't like the pressure Keuchel put on him to win. It's pathetic. The guy has never been on a winning team and it doesn't seem like he cares to be on one. He just wants to be the "leader" of the team, joking around and having a jolly old time on the field while having zero expectations.4 points

WTF are you talking about. To be fair though, I ask that myself for about 80% of your posts4 points

The Sox starters are some of the most ill-prepared to begin a game I've ever seen. And that's a reflection on their useless pitching coach.4 points

Some of you guys are really freaking out. How come nobody is blaming the state of hitting philosophy in today's baseball? As long as it's HR or strikeout being preferred, this team is probably going to struggle ... except the nights the superstars (Eloy, Robert, Moncada, Timmy, Grandal) hit several homers between them. Or nights Abreu, EE, Mazura hit a couple. There will be plenty of nights we score a lot of runs in a normal season. Our bats are too potent to not score a ton of runs. As far as pitching ... the staff needs help. I'll be shocked if we make the playoffs and/or win the ALCS with this pitching staff. As far as Ricky ... cmon. How important is a manager? I'm not crazy about RR, but I don't think he's a clown, either. Defensively? Sox are average at best. Good luck to the Sox but the team isn't as bad as some are saying and getting rid of RR isn't that important.3 points

Everyone needs to read this thread. I'd post it all but it's about 15 tweets long.3 points

Nothing tops the brutal 1967 DH loss to the last place KC Royals with 5 games left. Had the Sox won 3 of those 5 games, they're in the World Series. The KC manager was Sox HOFamer Luke Appling who started 2 rookie pitchers against them. One of them Jim Catfish Hunter.3 points

If the Sox miss the playoffs in a season when 8 teams in the AL qualify, Hahn should be fired.3 points

We need a shakeup. New Manager...New Lineup...New Owner. I don't care what...just something. This is getting unwatchable. The Cards looked a lot more ready to play these games than we did.3 points

Id suggest this team would be at least 5 or 6 games better in the standings if Ozzie was skipper. It’s a shame the best team in baseball is underperforming so badly.3 points

He caught a foul ball off the net, making it a dead ball, and people are mad that he didn't immediately throw the ball in (again, it was a dead play)3 points

Growing up, I never realized how good of a player Jose Valentin was. I was a young meatball fan back then, like most are when they're young. I remember him leading the league in errors during his first year with the Sox, and thinking he was a lousy fielder. The advance metrics paint a different picture. Whether you like the stat or not, Jose's UZR at SS and 3B were very good throughout his tenure here. Below is Jose's WAR year by year during his tenure with the team: 2000: 4.5 2001: 3.3 2002: 3.5 2003: 3.9 2004: 2.2 Jose Valentin was a hell of a player with this Sox. I liked him, but didn't truly appreciate him in my younger years. Something I do remember is his walk-off against the Cubs. Man, was that sweet. https://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/video/day-jose-valentin-hits-walk-homer-vs-cubs2 points

This is true, but doesn’t change the fact that Abreu is an easy out vs RHP no matter what the others are doing. Grandal has no business in the top 3 either, and he should see absolutely nothing to hit with easy out Abreu behind him. Ricky is doing opponents favors every time he trots out these lineups that spread the hitters that other teams are concerned about all over the lineup with easy outs behind them.2 points

Another cooking analogy. He doesn’t have a competitive bone in his body. Just a high-paid babysitter.2 points

Whatever the fuck Giolito is doing to warm up before games, that needs to change. He is back to 2018 wildness with the only thing saving him form complete free fall is his ability to get some strike outs now compared to 2018. He's been brutal. It's demoralizing to have your "ACE" out there put you in a quick 4-0 hole every other start out there.2 points

If he did say that, then fuck him. He's part of the problem too.2 points

Collins better play tomorrow vs Hudson. Hudson walks a lot of guys and would be good to give Abreu a day off.2 points

YES Abreu is part of the problem. We signed him thinking/ hoping he could be the “Big Papi” for these young WSOX players. Instead hes setting an example swinging at a bad 3-0 pitch and grounding out meekly to the pitcher.2 points

I missed the second half of game two, but this team doesn't deserve to be a playoff team. I still think they'll get hot at some point, but the measure for error is shrinking by the day and I still don't see a sense of urgency from the coaching staff or players.2 points

Big no to Will Myers. He is not worth that contract and even if they eat some it hurts the chance of paying for a starter. Peterson can be an option, but only if the price is reasonable. With all the Sox injuries, many of the trade chips are probably not appealing right now2 points

It makes plenty of sense. You are just keeping his name around. He doesn't have to win the poll. Look , I loved that you posted the long article from the Athletic regarding how Paddy approached Tatis Sr. and everything else in that article. I had stayed out of much discussion in the past on the trade because I felt uninformed . What you posted changed that. And you took heat for it so even more kudos . Just keep being you .Take the jabs in stride as typical stupid male bonding rituals of constantly poking each other with a stick. I ll apologize if you feel it's warranted.2 points

What about his video was well intentioned? He blamed everyone but himself for making a bad decision that he chose to make. He then blamed the media"?" For his own teammates calling him out.. My favorite was when he started to tell us that his mom is a nurse and his brother is diabetic so he knows how serious the disease is... which actually just makes him an even bigger d bag.2 points
