Given the fact that the team payroll is going up by ~28.5m before the FO can blink means they're probably not going to do much. And that's before Giolito's arb raise and doesn't include any team option pick ups. Add to that, the prep for the upcoming Arb1's for Cease and Kopech after next year. There's also a few other important arb reviews/decisions such as Engel and Lopez. With my expectations being low, I realistically hope they can resign Leury, Hamilton, and Tepera (& ofc Giolito). And I hope they can option/trade Garcia and Kimbrel (deserves to be closer anyway) for decent prospects. Leury can be our every 2B with Romy as the super sub (or visa versa). What they actually do might be quite depressing given the financials.4 points

What I want them to do: Replace Tony LaRussa What they will do: Not that3 points

Well, when you make comments like "Mr 3,000", I'd also get in line to punch him in the face.3 points

Good morning guys, remember when we gave up our 4th overall pick for a closer that had 30 good innings for the first time in 3 years? Good times.3 points

Paul Konerko spent 16 years with the White Sox, hit 439 career homers, and had a career wRC of 118! He had 8 years with wRC+ over 120, 5 years over 130. Eric Hosmer spent SEVEN years with the Royals, had 125ish homers and had a wRC+ over 130 one time. Comparing Eric Hosmer to Paul Konerko is hilarious. Pretending their impacts were anywhere near similar on the organizations is also hilarious.2 points

Doesn’t mean anything. Boras is Conforto’s and Castellano’s agent. He is also Keuchel’s and Rodon’s agent. Actually it seems like he’s the agent for mostly all the high profile players. I would honestly rather they deal with him than Lozano. Lol2 points

I don't see what the point of mocking him is when he pretty much meant the same to KC as Konerko did to the White Sox...and it's not like the Sox are in a position to be looking down on World Series-winning players. Just like St. Louis with Pujols a decade ago, mid or small market teams are better off not making emotional signings after playoff successes. Look at KC with Alex Gordon, or the Sox keeping Contreras and Konerko way too long. Btw, we almost had a deal for Alex Gordon that would have turned out to be a massive mistake with pretty much the same line of thinking that went into the Hosmer to SD, or Cain to Milwaukee. Leadership...2 points

Tony has lost all credibility with me. I was a big fan of the move to bring him aboard, although I would have been OK with the team jettisoning him after news of the second DUI came out. Tony had a full month to think about the playoffs. I thought he would magically lead this young club to the title. Instead the Sox got smoked. Considering the quick flameout, RR shoulda been allowed to manage the team another year. Tony has quickly agreed to the new baseball norm of only using a starter 2 or three innings. And he's OK with the lift and pull offensive strategy. HR or K is fine with him. Disappointing. He's just another guy, nothing special IMO.2 points

I want: New owner, FO, Manager and staff beyond Paddy, whoever Paddy wants to keep in scouting, and Katz. Eloy and Mercedes for Pablo Lopez. Lynn; Keuchel and Kimbrel for Lux and Gonsolin. Grandal for Gallo. Burger, Collins, prospects for Willson Contreras. FAs Robbie Ray, Yan Gomes, Leury Garcia, plus two $2M-$4M decent RPs. The White Sox to shift defensively like the other 20+ competent teams. SS TA 3B YM # 1B JA RF JG^ CF LR DH GS ^C WC LF AV 2B GL^ Bench: Gomes, Engel, Garcia, Gonzalez. SP: Giolito, Ray, Pablo Lopez, Kopech, Gonsolin, Cease. RP: KH, AB, GC, Rey L, JR, FA, FA I’ll get: “Nothing and like it.”2 points

Baseball is the only industry on the planet where experience and wisdom are considered bad. And people wonder why the game is such a fucking mess. Weird times.2 points

There are rumors that Madrigal rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. Anyone know more about that?2 points
-
Definitely seemed personal. Madrigal is not an "old school" kid for lack of better words. He didn't take to instruction and didn't feel like he needed to change his game. The old school people in the org were always divided on him.2 points

What I want: -Sign Bryant to play RF -Sign Semien to play 2b -Sign Scherzer to a 1 or 2-year deal and let Rodon walk -Stop trading assets, including Kimbrel, who will figure it out and be a valuable reliever next season (with us or someone else) What they'll do: -Sign Semien -Stick with in-house options in RF (which I'd be OK with with Semien in the fold) -Hang on to Rodon -Trade some combination of Kimbrel, Crochet, Sheets, Vaughn, and/or Keuchel (plus prospects) for unexpected pitching names, a backup catcher and depth pieces2 points

1. No. This FO never learns any fucking thing, because they're too stoopid. They forced us to wait and watch for seasons, as they tore it all down, and gained cost-controlled youngsters. They then extended some parts of the core; both of these actions were smart, but then they squandered financial flexibility in the stoopid Kimbrel trade, thus shortening the window. 2. Agreed. Part of the problem is that Vaughn/Sheets/Burger/Jimenez all profile the same way; decent bats that can't field a position to a league-average level. There are only so many players like that you can have on your roster. And there are only so many FOs that have an interest in all bat/no field types in trade. 3. Agreed. And this FO should have KNOWN THAT before they traded 10 years of control for 2 youngsters for a closer. 4. No, they won't spend their way out of this, unless (God Forbid) JR is terminally ill. 5. This window will only last til 2024, as Giolito will be a UFA by then. Of course, not getting the year of control back on Kopech didn't help, while not spending part of 2021 trying to stretch out Crochet didn't help, either. For less cash than they squandered on Kimbrel, they could have signed 2 RPs last offseason, so that Kopech/Crochet could have been stretched out/got the year of control back. (EDIT) Actually, with as weak as the ALC was this year, they probably only needed to sign 1 RP to take Crochet's place in the pen, while some other AAAA schmuck could have taken Kopech's place for the ~6 weeks or so for Kopech to get the year of control back. In effect, there are 2 more seasons left in this window, IMO.2 points

It sounds a lot like they didn't think to investigate if someone else owned the name, and if they did, that they didn't really care enough to make sure they had it before they did this announcement.2 points

It would be awesome if they end up changing it to something else instead of the dumb name they landed on.2 points

The Chiefs fans do the chop also. I personally don't like the chop. Grown people doing that seems silly and if it offends Native Americans should be eliminated IMO. Life's too short to go around offending people when it could easily be eliminated. I think somebody was saying KC Chiefs could just as easily switch to KC Chefs. Have a baker's hat be the logo.1 point

The Chop is so powerful, it has singlehandedly destroyed interest in baseball. I learn a lot on this board.1 point

Disagree. Franchise players hold an outsized amount of influence. If Toews took the claims seriously, you had better believe more action would have been taken. Look, blame him or don't, but the illusion that Toews is a "good leader" is dead. His Captaincy is forever tainted.1 point
-
Toews and Kane deserve to get lambasted for making excuses for their buddies Stan and Al, but in the end this was above their level. What are they supposed to do, go to the same people that have already decided to cover up date rape? 99% of the blame goes to Hawks Sr. management. Direct your vitriol there. John McDonough Stan Bowman Joel Quenneville James Gary Al MacIsaac Kevin Cheveldayoff Direct your ire toward those people. They are the people who had the power to act, and did nothing. The players could have only reasonably gone to them, and they had already decided to squash the whole story. Even if the players would have acted, it would have accomplished nothing.1 point

You keep blaming Hosmer playing first for his poor war. Guy was the 3rd worst 1st baseman in baseball last year of 26 qualified. Has nothing to do with first. Hosmer just sucks dude. Who knew you were hanging out in the clubhouse.1 point

Shitty stuff all around. I think what some people need to also think about is, sadly, this type of shit and other shenanigans have most likely happened in almost every single locker room to varying degrees over the years. Doesn't matter the sport, the city, or the team, the locker room. I would be willing to bet there are numerous things that have occurred that were covered up, or not reported because of fear of getting cut, fired, released, traded, etc. Would not surprise me one bit if reports start coming out about other incidents happening in other organizations now that this has been made public and the victim coming forward.1 point

What I want: -give Rodon a QO - Rodon accepts offer or sign one of Rodon, Scherzer, Ray - Trade Keuchel, Collins, & Burger to a rebuilding team - say Arizona for Carson Kelly & a Decent reliever. - Trade Kimbrel to the Rays for Glasnow if they still want to do that. If not somewhere else for prospects - sign Chris Taylor to play 2b this year as a placeholder for Jose Ramirez next year. (then Taylor plays everywhere almost everday rest players once a week or trade him for good prospects). - re-sign Tepera - sign 1 of graveman, hudson, Iglesias - re-sign Leury What The sox will do: - qo to Rodon Takes it or walks - Lopez replaces Rodon in rotation - Trade Keuchel with Burger & Kimbrel in 3 way deal that get us Gleyber Torres - sign 1 of Gausman, desclafini, stroman - sign escobar to 2b - re sign Tepera - Hire schildt to coaching staff if he doesn't take a manager's job elsewhere1 point

Stopped caring about the Black Hawks a long time ago. Care less now. I don't know if this organization will ever regain credibility. The NHL? Always has been run by a bunch of mindless assholes.1 point

Hosmer was never a megastar; although I think you might be being sarcastic. That signing was a complete disaster from the second they made it. I'm not sure there's been a player in the past 10 years whose narrative has not matched his level of play more than Hosmer. Caufields obsession with a guy who has 11 career fWAR in 1550 career games is amazing. WAR hasn't been kind to Abreu because of his glove issues, and he's accumulated 23 fWAR in 1100 games. Hosmer is a clown; a rich clown at that.1 point

The trade will end up being a huge L on Hahn's resume. However it's been said by many including Steve Stone, let's not kid ourselves on Madrigal ever living up to his draft status.1 point

I love this because it backtracks on itself. "He was on the VERY back end...of the A Tier." Like, you're trying so hard to discount Keuchel as a free agent signing that summer while also acknowledging that he actually was fairly ranked. He got higher than projected by MLBTR, but w/e. You probably would have been happy if they gave #3 free agent Eric Hosmer an albatross contract, even though the rankings from the time basically say "yeah, this contract is gonna be fucking crippling." Keuchel sucked last year. The defense sure didn't help, but neither did giving up home runs. Hopefully rebuilding innings can help him. If not, he's likely gone (I don't see the team letting him get to 160 IP if he pitches the same way).1 point

Oh lighten up pettie4sox, Cheech Marin used that word since the 70s in a comedic way, it's a word we use amongst ourselves in an endearing way when we mess around, sort of like how black people use the N word amongst themselves without offensive intentions. It's the intent behind the word that counts...anyways I always tell my white and black friends that there isn't anything wrong loving frijoles, I have mad love for them, haha People are way too sensitive nowadays, sheesh.1 point

Guardians is a horrible name to begin with, just go with the Cleveland Mistakes. Seriously, if they can't use the Guardians due to legal issues, I think the Cleveland Lakers would work, makes more sense than the Los Angeles Lakers who brought that name with them when they moved from Minneapolis in 1960.1 point
