Moncada hit .435 in the WBC, with a ton of power, and that was met with silence. Which is fine. But then someone collides with him in the outfield which somehow means it's time to start taking shots at him again. I don't get it.6 points

If Moncada would've peeled away to avoid a collision, this board would be giving him flack for being lazy.4 points

I think it was on Reddit where someone said that the dude suffers from LeBronitis. He grimaces after fucking everything. Some people are like Abreu and Paulie who play through everything. Then you have dudes who look like they're in constant pain. But I just enjoy posters saying "he's not hurt" and then it coming back that he has a bruised rib. If you have a bruised rib, yeah, you're probably gonna be down for a minute to catch your breath.4 points

They've been relatively healthy thus far, so something was bound to happen. Injuries are more or less a guarantee, which is why it's incredibly stupid to have the approach of "if we stay healthy..."3 points

I am far from an iron man. Happy to admit it. I am also not a professional athlete. Yoan Moncada is still most definitely soft. We have a very large sample size to base this off.3 points

Don’t worry, it will be something else after opening week. He will play through it at 60 pct speed and with bad swings, but we will have to read about how durable he is.3 points

If we're doing his whole tenure with the team, last year was his first missing significant time. 2018: 149 games 2019: 132 games (give or take this one) 2020: 52 games 2021: 144 games 2022: 104 games2 points

I think most of us had some emotions during the 1990 season as very soon a place that we loved would not be us with any longer. I'm going to go back to 1981 for another emotional game, my cousin and I attended a game in June against the Yankees, it was the last night before the players were to go on strike. The Sox were playing great ball and IIRC were a game out of first as the addition of Fisk and Luzinski made Sox contenders for the first time since the 77 season. The Sox won that game and not knowing how long the strike would be my cousin and I were literally the last fans to leave the park, we just sat there looking out at that wonderful green grass with all those green seats and I remember my cousin saying ''God, I love this place", nothing more was needed to say as we finally left the park with tears in our eyes.2 points

It's amazing how every year I go thru same thing: - Spring Training starts - watch entire games, very excited - Post Week 2 spring training - negative value. Actively resent that games are played. - Week Season Starts : LETS GOOOOOOO2 points

I was surprised to learn a week or so ago that Moncada was Cuba's starting third baseman. I can't believe that talent rich island couldn't come up with a better player.2 points

Yoan should be fine. It was an extremely mild collision. Dude probably rolls around on the ground when he stubs his toe at home.2 points

Bruised rib is exactly the sort of thing that Moncada does not need. Remember when his slight oblique strain was supposed to be minor?2 points

It’s just funny listening to Smoltz try not to go on a rant about anyone celebrating. He’s just awful1 point

Mexico seems like the Cinderella team this tournament. They've responded to every bit of adversity.1 point

I imagine there’s resentment that he didn’t pan out as the face of the franchise superstar that the hype of being the #1 overall prospect tends to generate, so some people are just waiting for reasons to criticize him. Which is silly, of course.1 point

Yoan sells every little ding like he's Shawn Michaels, but I don't see how anybody can call him soft. He's dramatic, but he doesn't miss much time at all. He doesn't "act tough" but the proof is in the pudding.1 point

I don't understand the proof that he's soft comment. Unless you feel what he feels how can there be proof ? Certainly not proof that would hold up in a court of Law. Class action suit: White Sox Iron-Men fans vs. Yoan "House of Pain" Moncada.1 point

Moncada and the Sox will milk this the entire season as the reason he is hitting .2001 point

Running to first on a 20 foot grounder. Doesn’t look too serious….probably only 2-3 months1 point

Hamilton and Marisnick sure make Engel look good. Or Reyes. Or Haseley. Or Romy Gonzalez. Or Colas in center and Eloy in right on occasion. Seriously, both have played themselves off the team from what I can tell.1 point

Based on the few games I have seen this year, it looks like he is doing better than Billy. Other than that, I am totally unprepared to debate anyone on the subject. Uncle.1 point

One thing people need to realize is that pain is a psychosocial construct for each individual. One part is true nocioception that is the actual nerve impulse that carries the signal to the central nervous system. The other part is how the unconscious deals with it. For example, someone who has been in a rear end car collision may unconsciously react differently when they see a car approaching fast in their rear view mirror. This state of heightened awareness usually leads to a more severe injury if another collision occurs. Long story short the greatest predictor for an injury is a previous injury. Not just because of tissue weakness but because of other psychosocial factors. He may be soft but there might be other factors involved from earlier in his career that we don't know about.1 point

I've always been a Moncada fan but I'm about tired of him now. He's too injury prone and streaky. I wouldn't be mad if they traded him.1 point

This is part of an elaborate plan to get out of more spring training time. He's a lazy genius.1 point

Well Billy and his .317 OPS is still within range of Marisnick and his .374 OPS. Don't give up hope yet!1 point

Cool of the announcers to cut to commercial with him laying lifeless on the ground to return and make zero mention of it even happening.1 point

Leury always in my opinion should have been let go after the rebuild was “over” and let go with players like Palka, Yolmer and DelMonico. He is not the super utility ben zobrist and has never been that guy. Recent managers have tried and tried to make him into that guy but he’s never truly been that player1 point

They had a backfield game today. Saw Sosa, Ramos, Perez, Rodriguez, and a few others playing. Pretty cool experience to witness. I’ll definitely be making this a yearly experience with the kiddo1 point
