  1. Yeah, this is straight up bullshit. I try to stay out of other people’s beefs, but telling @JUSTgottaBELIEVE his kids should go to therapy because they are embarrassed to be Sox fans is just douchey. And please don’t treat us like idiots and pretend your comment was well intentioned because it clearly wasn’t. Do you even have kids? Do you know what it’s like to be a kid right in this day of social media? Do you know what it’s like to grow up going to Sox games with your family and worry that tradition will die with your kids because the org is so incompetent & boring that no young fans have any semblance of interest in this team? Yeah, no one is going to die over this stuff, but it doesn’t change the fact that it sucks for many of us with kids. My dream of regular Saturday tailgates with my two boys when they are older is all but dead because the Sox have given them zero reason to the follow the team in their formative years and they have moved onto other interests.

  9. So I was at SoxFest last night and got in line for the meet and greet at 7:45 and there was Chase with his skeevy stoner locks free flowing. There was only four people in front of me when I entered the line and almost within seconds they rushed him and Braden Montgomery out. Literally the meet and greet was supposed to go to 8:00, so my dream of getting a picture with him was crushed and I was enraged at being scammed. You don’t promise Meidroth and then pull a bait and switch on my emotions.

  10. There’s a reason he issues press releases to relay his “disappointment” in the team. He doesn’t want to face the music. The truth is, as long as they are turning a profit for him, he’s fine.

  12. Some notes from tonight: Whoever said not kid friendly got it right. I brought my 7 yr old who enjoyed it anyway but having the kids location separate was not smart. Theres not really much for them to do and i felt like i observed other disappointed parents. This format works better for a smaller event and it was fine but nowhere near what it had been in years past. The "state of the Sox" seminar was very uncomfortable. Chris didn't have the balls to get up there so he loses points. The group gave a lot of cliche statements about playing hard, improving fundamentals blah blah blah. A lot of antsy people wanted to ask questions but instead shriffen and stone asked "fan" questions from pre selected cards. Here's where I give Scriffen a lot of credit. He saw this wasn't working and went to the audience for questions. There was no mic so he repeated them. Some okay, nothing super pressing, but props to him for getting a few legit questions. Jerry made an appearance from the balcony to watch. As soon as a handful of fans caught that and started chanting to "sell the team" he bolted. And the seminar was cut at about 30 minutes as they stated they ran out of time which was crap too. The meet and greets were the only thing that I thought worked. My son was pumped to get his first autographs and we legit walked right in and out with some of our younger players. This format will not work if this franchise ever draws legit interest again. Nice restoration though.

  14. I’m not interested in the tickets, but I’m interested to know if you were able to give them away for nothing. Please update. I find it hilarious that seemingly nobody on a team’s fan site would take them. Not if you’re doing your job as a parent. Haha, hilarious.

  17. Agreed. I'm not arguing that he should have the job. I'm not arguing he's highly qualified. I'm not arguing he's done a good job. I'm not arguing he's should stay. f*** the guy. He's a pathetic loser and I think we all know he won't turn this around. One area I'm qualified to speak about are word definitions and linguistics. I've spent a lot of time studying those areas. I have a Masters in Literature and teach English. Is being an assistant a reasonable qualification to be a GM? Would you disagree with a team why would be interviewing anyone that doesn't have front office experience? In any organization being an assistant is a qualification to be the manager. I would have set the bar much hire than being an assistant GM in a failing organization. I've been doing a lot of technical writing the past couple of months and word choice has been dominating my thoughts. My apologies for starting a semantic discussion on the nuances between poorly qualified and unqualified on a baseball message board.

  23. But you’re not sorry and that’s the problem. You’re actually mocking posters who are frustrated or saddened by the state of things. You have every right to feel optimistic of what Getz is doing and I agree the blatant pessimism can get tiring, but the fact remains we just were the worst team in baseball history. We are viewed as a complete clown show and have zero star players on the roster other than an oft injured Robert. Baseball is already a really tough sell for a lot of kids and unfortunately the 2023/2024 White Sox makes it nearly impossible to gain a young kid’s interest. I forced them all to go a game last year and they had zero fun as soon as all the snacks & treats went dry. I spend tons of time with my kids and it would be selfish of me to make them go to more games given how bad & boring this team is. There are simply more fun things to do that makes everyone happy. And it’s totally fine for Sox fans to be upset that what once was special experience for them and their families may be all but gone for good. It’s been difficult to process at times, but I have accepted the fact I will die alone as a Sox fan without a legacy to live on through my kids.

  24. The fact Thorpe disappeared from our top 30 pipeline prospects after one of his starts should be a safe indication he exceeded their prospect limits. I mentioned this. Unless for some reason they have a different threshold for their top 100 than for their top 30 by team, he wasn’t eligible for this list.

  26. Honestly...anyone still having 100% faith/belief/confidence in the White Sox legitimately fixing things and being back to the same consistently competitive team they were from 2000-2012 without an ownership change might be the ones needing therapy. We might have more in common with "abuse" survivors, but more of the psychological variety...having mostly inherited Sox fandom for family reasons, it's almost something tantamount to Stockholm Syndrome. Not all of us can be like Ptac and Texsox and just enjoy the essence of the game in some kind of esoteric James Earl Jones Field of Dreams sense...but if y/our team is already eliminated on Opening Day, it takes a lot of the enjoyment of the sport away. Especially with the amount of time energy and effort following closely over 162 games, ST and then another month of playoffs requires. You can follow other teams, prospects/draft, MiLB, NCAA...fantasy or rotisserie teams, but it's just not quite the same.

  27. Not likely, the osteophytes would have been removed through arthroscopy going straight into the joint. They wouldn't see outside the joint. Unless the osteophytes were really big and they needed to do an open procedure. This is unlikely but they would see the UCL in this case.

  28. I know Paddy is gone. But is the actual approach any different? Genuinely asking. They just got done again purging the ML roster to import talent as the means to building up the farm. What is being done so that they do not have to repeat this cycle and build technique?

  29. I guarantee they could have gotten at least one guy that would still be a top 100 prospect

  30. Even if they hit on all their prospects...Detroit Cleveland have almost the same level of MiLB talent, Minnesota has two potential superstars and incoming new ownership and the Royals have Witt Jr. already extended.

  31. The problem I have with the JR style of rebuiding is he feels he has to strip the team to the bare bones in the process. Tanking is absurd and now team had the worst season in MLB history. In the late 1990s, the Sox could have brought up young players without that stupid White Flag Trade. I don't expect a contender for a while, but there is no excuse for a 121-loss season. And now it looks like another 100-loss season is on the way.

  33. Anyone else go to SoxFest last night? The format was incredibly different from the past as expected, in some ways good and other ways very bad. I will say anyone considering going tonight, it’s not very kid friendly. There are some meet and greets and you can technically get autographs, but you can’t bring in large pictures, bats, or even baseballs. The night started off with Len Kasper and his band playing music for about an hour. This neither good or bad, just some background music while you walked around and drank some beers. If you had an MVP package, you could meet some players at this time, but otherwise there wasn’t a ton to do. The merch they have there is incredibly limited, although they do have some cool “125 years” of White Sox baseball stuff (I did snag a hoodie). They then kicked off the real experience by bringing out all their young players and prospects. To be honest, I kind of got hyped in that moment because the sheer amount of players on stage was impressive. Just from my reallocation, you had Thorpe, Cannon, Burke, Schultz, Smith, Teel, Quero, C. Montgomery, B. Montgomery, Meidroth, Baldwin, Ramos, Vargas, & Wolkow. I’m sure I’m missing others and it doesn’t change the fact we have a long road ahead of us, but it was much cooler than seeing them try to sell guys like Tauchman & Slater. After that, they had their “2005 World Series” panel. Basically it was Our Chuck alongside Buehrle, Sweety Freddy, Contreras, & Baines. While it wasn’t anything crazy, it was a decent segment and some back & forth. They did reveal that Mark will be getting a statue and then Mark did buy a touch of beers for every adult in attendance (sorry kiddos), which was awesome given the $12 price tag. They then shift to a “State of the White Sox” with Getz & Venable. This was an absolute snooze fest with poor audio (IMO) and endless pre-curated, softball questions. I was ready and waiting for a town hall format so I could hold Chris accountable for certain past mistakes, but Boyer and his staff clearly designed this event to prevent a blood bath from occurring. You may be for or against putting a GM on the spot like this, but at least fan questions generate more interesting discussion than whatever the hell Kasper was feeding them. The event for those who didn’t pay for the ridiculously priced afterparty (I believe $100 for 1 hour) was some comedy thing involving fans and players. A comedian named Kevin Bozeman hosted and they did a variety of games that involved a mix of players and fans. At this point, I had snuck my way into the MVP area in the hopes of finding Chase Meidroth, but instead only found free sliders & fried mushrooms and a meet & greet event with Sean Burke & George Wolkow. The comedy thing seemed ok, but basically made up 25% of the event so I really question the point of it. But again, the event felt more like a party for White Sox fans than a typical SoxFest session. Last tip for anyone going, but they do have some Blue Moon raffle at the front where you have the chance to win some prize (I believe a lame Blue Moon jacket, but I drink a lot of Blue Moon and still wanted). You give them your phone number and they will text you if you won. I made the fortunate but unfortunate decision to make a quick exit as I was in hot pursuit of a breaded steak sandwich from Ricobene’s and missed a text notifying that I had won the raffle. And unfortunately, they only give you 10 minutes to claim, so make sure to check your phone from 8:30 to 9:00.

  34. The MLB story mentioned his pitching in game three 2005 WS after some beer and beers were brought out to the panel. He bought beers for all in the room.....that is just so Mark Buehrle! I remember reading stories of him taking rookies to a tailor in NYC and buying them suits.

  36. It's ok to be frustrated with your favorite team being the worst of all time and run by an unqualified GM. Its also ok if you don't care, but why do you find it necessary to try to dunk on everyone that does care?

  37. "Getz said, lauding the effort of selling the White Sox as a happy landing spot for veterans seeking bounce-back years. “Because Will (Venable) demonstrates it, others do in the organization: We’re very honest, honest about where we currently are and where we want to go. We might find something we feel we can improve.” None of this honesty was present last year. Guess that was Grifol's fault now, or Dayton Moore on overselling his positive attributes to the Sox...

  38. Because let's be honest here. If we were ACTUALLY rebuilding from the ground up, Chris Getz would have been just as unemployed as everyone else responsible for this mess.
    1 point
  39. No one expected a competitive team, we expected an actual hiring process to fix this mess of an organization and we didn't get it because the owner claimed he couldn't waste a year when that's what happened anyways. As a fan I would be much more at peace with this thing if JR had just fired everyone who had a hand in this and said "Sorry, we can do better than this" and made an effort.

  40. 1. I'm not exactly sure what industry you are referring to, I'm assuming you mean other GM's in the league, and if that's the case....um, so what? And also...no you wouldn't. Using your logic, because Rick Hahn and Kenny Williams were here in 2005, they have earned lifetime contracts? They can never be fired? The architects of 2005 went 655-802 from 2011-2019. That should absolutely be enough to get canned, but because they won in 2005, they get to be here forever? 2. When Chris Getz, or any industry executive gets in front of a microphone, they aren't speaking to the media. They are speaking to the fans, the media are just the vehicle for that communication, and that role has been significantly diminished with social media and teams controlling more of their own messaging. The point is, there was, in my opinion, a failure to set fan expectation and made the job and mission more difficult for the White Sox. And could have been solved with a simple change in messaging. You are free to make any excuse you would like for Getz and the White Sox. "Yeah, but..." is very easy to do. I happen to believe organizational transparency is important and in most cases is well received. The original tweet of this thread, the quote from Getz..I think is the right message. I think he's getting better with quotes. I also believe saying "We're committed to building from the ground up" is a year too late.

  41. The way they roster built and then massively churned the first half of the season told me they thought maybe they could luck their way into mediocrity. The tone totally changed after the losses piled up. Either they lied to us early, or late.

  42. Wasn't Chris Getz the one who spent time talking about how weak the AL Central was?

  44. It's amazing how much damage Jerry caused from a PR perspective with his comments about "not wanting to waste a year" And while there are MANY things to be frustrated about regarding this organization, their continued lack of media training and strategy has always been maddening to me. To your point, they could have done themselves a lot of favors by coming out and saying "Listen, we had people here that quite frankly we're probably here too long. We can't do anything about that now, they're gone, and this isn't about putting a fresh coat of paint on things, this is about tearing it down to the studs and starting over. And I know Sox fans aren't going to love hearing that, I know the pain the fan base suffered through a rebuild that didn't result in what everyone wanted, but this organization needs an entirely new approach or we're going to all suffer similar results, and that's not acceptable to anyone. It's going to be painful, it's going to take time, but I am so committed to doing things the RIGHT way to build something that will have sustainable, long lasting success. It's all I care about." You say that out of the gate, you buy yourself A LOT of good will. But they went...a different route. And it's on THEM for that, not the fans.
