Fletcher got 241 plate appearances and was terrible (41 wRC+). DeLoach didn’t get quite that long of an opportunity, but he also struggled in the majors. More importantly, neither of them was good in Charlotte. I don’t agree with handing major league opportunities to guys who can’t succeed in AAA. IMO, those two are just plain scouting misses.3 points

Don't know what you are talking about. I'm impressed as hell that got enough runners on to have that many opportunities. Last year they probably didn't get enough runners on to create the opportunities.2 points

I mean it's March 12th. You can probably go back 100 years and find 3-4 examples of a player like Robert being traded in March. It's just not a time when teams are motivated to make deals for various reasons.2 points

And yet they bring in guys like Tyler Glasnow on the regular.2 points

Pedro Grifol isn't around to prioritize "winning now" over youth.2 points

If you are drafting Jeanty, you are NOT thinking about a second contract. You are trying to maximize him immediately and then make him force the second contract2 points

Sheets is a terrible player and a few homers in Spring Training isn’t changing my mind. But please come back later this season and remind me about how right you were when he has garbage numbers and gets DFA by the Padres. Just to remind you, Sheets has a career line of: .230 / .295 / .385 / .680 Sour grapes? I didn’t want the guy last year and I am glad Getz finally got a clue and non-tendered him. He’s a DH/1B that can’t hit well enough to play either spot, yet he was masquerading as a RF for the Sox which was even worse. If you think he’s a good player, you aren’t living in reality. He has done nothing to indicate he is a good player and has declined every year since his rookie season, meaning that the massive holes in his swing were likely figured out. I’m sure the Sox will forever miss that -2.7 career bWAR.2 points

My point was more around needing to get De Paula or Hope vs. other potential headliners in their system, but I’d certainly push for more than just a single 55 FV prospect for Robert. Cease got us a prospect ranked in the 60’s at multiple publications (55 FV guy) plus two other org top 10 prospects (one who was cracking some top 100 lists) and people are already ridiculing that trade for being light. And yes, a positional prospect of that stature is worth more than Thorpe was at the time, but the point remains the same. Doing a one for one swap with a potential star is a bad practice and we should try to diversify some risk by getting second piece and possibly a lottery ticket.2 points

Meidroth not really a ss and is 2-16 in the Spring. Of course, Baldwin hasn’t been tearing it up either. The guy who has opened eyes is Bergolla, but he is going to AA. The guys who have looked good as infielders offensively are Rojas, Sosa, Drury, Vargas, and Vaughn. Not really any shortstops there. Maybe Rojas?1 point

Getz also had a brief interview on the demotion and said they liked his defense at SS this spring.1 point

They have Pages, Outman and k*** Rodriguez that can all play CF. It's not a crisis, it's just that it's NOT an All-Star/MVP caliber player at every position, lol. Hardly requires a desperation trade for Robert. The White Sox are inarguably more interested in dumping the salary than they are in their prospect return, that's how they have almost always operated under JR. Otherwise, we'd be "buying" a prospect or two from the Mets to take back Starling Marte's contract. Likewise, Steve Cohen won't give away too much, knowing the value of a top prospect is worth a lot more than $15 million FV. It works BOTH ways here. Need two willing parties to strike a deal.1 point

It took them until this spring training to figure that out (SS is not his best spot long-term) when we've been discussing it for months?1 point

I think it more the quality of players. We know that they still aren't planning to be good and it shows. I would like to see how many games they had 16 opportunities with RISP. I bet it wasn't many that offense was awful. Not that I'm expecting it to much better this year until they bring up the young catchers.1 point

Tyler Davis looked sharp. In his only appearance this spring, he comes in with the bags loaded and Ks Moncada in 4 pitches. He doesn't have much experience, but he looks poised and ready to go. Wouldn't surprise me to see him in the pen late summer.1 point

I mean the only realistic answer that qualifies is a pass-wrecking DE. That could seemingly make a bigger and more meaningful impact than Jeanty over Swift (it's not like Swift would be giving you 0) But I agree with the premise that a player like Jeanty could/would make an immediate and noticeable impact. The pick will be telling depending on what direction they take. An OL/DL being drafted at 10, after the free agency spree they went on..would tell me they are trying to balance the short term and long term stability of the team. Drafting Jeanty tells me they got a little greedy and over their collective skis, similar to the arrgoance showed by Poles last draft, thinking his team was a great punter away from being elite, and decided to burn a 4th on Tory Taylor.1 point

No doubt, but hard to argue that he didn’t have a massive impact on the Eagles’ success last year. Shelf life is a concern obviously and there may not be a ton of separation between good and average RBs, but I think having an elite RB can transform an offense. Having said that, for the juice to really be worth the squeeze, you need to have the rest of your roster mostly in place. Let me ask this question. What realistic pick at 1.10 could have a bigger impact for us than Jeanty next year? I still think drafting a LT prospect or pass rusher makes the most sense long-term (if the right player is there), but those guys might just be role players or marginal upgrades in Y25. I just don’t see a bunch of other spots where a rookie comes into this roster and makes an immediate impact. Now, that doesn’t mean take Jeanty at 1.10 (especially in a super deep RB draft), but I think the question highlights that the bulk of the pieces needed to field a really good team are in place and you can probably consider splurging on a potential playmaker at less prioritized position and still add depth at other spots with your other picks.1 point

Trankowski brings a career .624 OPS and is a step child of Venable from their Ranger days.1 point

I think the Dodgers lack desperation since they know they are going to the playoffs next year no matter what and can wait and see if Getz panics.1 point

If I'm the Dodgers with as much talent and depth as they have I'd much rather give the internal options a chance than bring in a guy who has been hurt constantly and that will cost them a lot of money when you factor in luxury tax penalties.1 point

Hope vs Freeland would be a dream.. That has got to be way too much for Robert. If DePaula or Hope were involved, idk how much i care about additional pieces1 point

Pedro Grifol was a first time manager doing what he was told. And if the front office allowed him to do that for 75% of the worst season in franchise/baseball history before firing him then they are as incompetent as we all figured they were anyways.1 point

I get the OF additions because they are blocking no one of importance. It will be very frustrating if Rojas takes away meaningful at-bats away from Vargas, Sosa, Meidroth, Baldwin, or Ramos. Thaiss is a totally fine placeholder to buy some time for Teel & Quero. Perez & Wilson are cheap options to eat innings. We haven’t really signed any other veterans.1 point
-
I will believe that Pedro was someone out on a limb by himself when I see a completely different behavior this year, because we sure signed a ton of the exact same kinds of guys this winter. Why sign them if they aren't competing? Seems pretty convenient to me.1 point

I hate to say it, but there's a lot of truth here. It would take more than a nice spring training to remove both the odor and the injury fear.1 point

There is plenty of things to watch this season, there are numerous intriguing young pitchers and position players to be excited about that will either break camp or be with the team shortly after. There is literally zero reason to keep Robert provided he rebuilds his value and we can get a nice return for him.1 point

I like DePaula, but I think he is unathletic. Probably leftfield profile possibly trending to left. Hope is a far better defender. He could possibly stick in center. Slam dunk in right. I could see Hope and Freeland for Robert. That said, I would rather just keep Luis. He is literally their only good player. I would love to have something to watch for at least the first half of the season.1 point

You wouldn’t trade Robert straight up for De Paula? He’s rated #40 overall by MLB. Hope is rated #74. I would be fine without the extra pieces.1 point

So Montgomery starts the season in AAA and Sox have no shortstop cept Sosa? That's what The Score said. Why did Sox dump Nicky if they had no SS? He'd be OK defensively while hitting .240 or so. I know the tank lovers really don't care about this season at all, just having the calendar flip by heading into another winter. But I think Getz should be fired just for putting together the worst roster in club history (even in a tank year you can get a few better players than this collection). The pitching staff on paper is the worst in team history when you look at the four-inning starters and bullpen guys. The lineup is full of nothing. surprised there's no Nicky or DeBong to at least field 85 percent of the grounders hit that way.1 point

It happens. Heck in my hometown we have a 3 block area which was a hospital for like 150 years. It was torn down in the 90's. If they had just let it go to R1 or R2, it would have been instantly sucked up and built on. Instead they have been looking for something big to re-complete the area, all of the way down to wanting a small grocery store to be an anchor tenant with street side businesses on top of an 8-10 story residential tower building, including some affordable housing. There is nothing wrong with the lot that should have left it empty for 30 years, but their ambitions are bigger than the marketplace has been historically. It's not a vast conspiracy to hoist this property on some unsuspecting sucker, it's just an ambitious goal.1 point
