I would also accept: Aaron Civale unrequests trade from Brewers.8 points

Not a fan of Civale, however, it's him or Clevinger, so I love the trade. If Elko is not the answer, and his pedigree does make that unlikely, the Sox have a ton of options starting with moving Vargas there and playing some mix of Rojas, Sosa, Colson, Baldwin, or eventually even Antonacci or Bonemer at 3rd. First Base, not a tough position to fill. I wish Andrew the best and would not be surprised if the change of scenery plus the Miller Park effect really helps him.8 points

I'm just going to go ahead and declare that we won the Vaughn trade now.8 points

Is it fair to call it the “back” when like 20 of the 26 guys wouldn’t be on other ML rosters? 😂7 points

Palacios started the last two days, including hitting clean up two days ago. WTF is it with this organization? I am glad they finally sent him out for one of the kids who should be playing as much as possible in Baldwin.6 points

Yes, you probably read it right here at the top of this very page.6 points

BREAKING: Aaron Civale requests trade from White Sox6 points

Who was in charge of player development while all these draft picks were failing? They should be fired and never work in baseball ever again!6 points

This looks like a my cat s%*# for your dog s%*# trade, but hopefully a change of scenery type deal does it.6 points

STupid mlb didn't have the play where he went from first to third when the shortstop bobbled the ball into LF and no one was covering third. One of those "we are going to be smart and aggressive" plays that hasn't happened since they've chattered. But we did have this triple. SO his real statline is he got to third on his own twice, and a double. Love this dude. Also props to Keith Law who kept Vargas on his breakout players for 2025 ("other names in consideration") when I thought he was toilet paper after last year: Someone please bookmark this, this will almost certainly be when he starts to fade. But I'm not calling the top, this is the start baby.5 points

I love how active Getz is with the back of the roster versus the previous regime.5 points

It's like a DFA punch card. We'll know it's close when he hits clean up.5 points

Considering we've drafted and developed one position player into an all star for us in the last 30 years, it certainly seems more exclusive to the White Sox.5 points

That would all have to mean that Jordan Leasure goes down when they process Civale onto the roster. But congratulations to everyone on Vaughn and Palacios both being gone on the same day. Condolences to those who need them.4 points

Queue Schriffen when the Brewers play us next: "I talked to Andrew this morning and he really has embraced the swing change that has him raking towards .217."4 points

Elko isn't good, but there are a lot of not good things on this roster. I do find satisfaction having a tall first baseman after the last few years. Hard to go back. Vargas is acceptable. But you saw what happens with Lenyn, short people don't know where small obstacles like "bases" are. They are too close to the ground, have great balance. Tall people are at a constant fear of stepping on something and falling over, and dying. Nature over nurture here, gotta go tall.4 points

Every case is different. But the key is development doesn't stop in the minor leagues. AJ Pierzynski was on the radio this week on ESPN 1000, and they asked him "With new ownership coming aboard, what would you do if you were the new owner? One of things he said was "If you talk to players who have played for the Sox recently, they'll tell you about deficiencies and coaching that players get in other organizations that they don't get with the White Sox." Historically, I believe there is enough evidence from results and reporting that have told us the White Sox were in the stone ages on player development. Hopefully that is changing, remains to be seen and I have serious doubts because of who the owner still is...but we'll start to get a better idea if change is really happening over the next 24 months.4 points

As you all are aware of the Sox trading away Andrew Vaughn today, it just reiterates one of the main reasons why the White Sox have sucked, and why this “rebuild” went south fast were their draft classes from 2015-2019. For a team that will not spend $ you better have a good scouting department and draft well. The Sox had 6 1st round picks over that 5 year span with 5 of them being in the Top 11, and 2 being in the Top 4. Listed below are the picks and their fWAR. 2015 #8 Carson Fulmer -0.5 (-0.9 as a Sox player) 2016 #10 Zack Collins -2.1 (-2.2 as a Sox player) 2016 #26 Zack Burdi -0.3 2017 #11 Jake Burger 4.1 (1.9 as a Sox player) 2018 #4 Nick Madrigal 2.7 (1.8 as a Sox player) 2019 #3 Andrew Vaughn -1.8 Yikes. From 6 first round picks in a 5 year span they actually got -1.5 fWAR in their time in Chicago.4 points

I wish him luck. Seemed like a decent guy. The Sox f'd up EVERY aspect of his development. Rushed him to Majors to justify the pick. Didn't send him down when he needed a reset. Finally (and worst) put him in the outfield where his lack of instinct and foot speed made him the worst option in MLB at that position. They thought they were drafting Steve Garvey and ended up with Steve Harvey.4 points

Brewers: We are honoring your request and trading you to the White Sox. Civale: Oh, I think you misheard what I said. I said I wanted a FADE, as in a new haircut. Sorry for any confusion! Brewers: Too late. Civale: I'll go to the bullpen and be good. I won't complain at all. I swear! Brewers: Sorry, it's a done deal. Civale: *stomps foot* I hate you!4 points

It's seems exclusively to the White Sox. 2 things happen - they become useful to another team or they are out of baseball4 points

Right about the time Tony LaRussa came back to the White Sox, pretty much every one fell apart.3 points

I don't know about pro-Sheets, but tendering a contract to Vaughn in the off season was stupid then, and it didn't work out any better in hindsight.3 points
-
People will say this is hindsight but I was leaning more towards Sheets if they were only going to go with one going forward in the offseason, basically just because of the lefty bat. However, I didn't really want to bring back either though, especially not Vaughn. Edit: this isn't like an "I'm pissed they didn't keep Sheets" post. Because I also doubt he would be doing here what he's been doing in SD.3 points

He’s been really good since switching to the torpedo bat. Solid defender but I’m just not sure how much impact he’ll have offensively. He’ll make the majors but I’m not expecting a regular3 points

I think that is baseball karma at work. The shortstop was being lazy and you will always be punished correctly.2 points

Disagree with AJ on this point, at least to some extent. My opinion is that talent evaluation is far, far more important than player development. On one hand, you cannot develop players like AV, Madrigal, Oscar Colas and maybe, as it may turn out, Colson Montgomery into star players. Investing development time into them is throwing money out. On the other hand, players like Teel, Quero, Vargas and Meidroth are the kind of players that the Sox should be given credit for identifying, acquiring and/or promoting. Their skills can be fine tuned, but they already have what it takes.2 points

I agree. I broke my "don't buy an active player jersey" rule for a TA Southside jersey. But if you mention him nowadays, everyone will spit his name out with venom because of how it ended. Hell, people love celebrating him failing with the Marlins and Angels.2 points

I hear you, but Gavin also put up like 0.7 fWAR for us between 2021 and 2022. So it's hard to just assign fault to the team. And the trend lately seems like a lot of former Sox are struggling or remaining pitiful/average: Abreu, Eloy, Yoan, Tim Anderson, Lance Lynn, etc. Jake Burger and Kopech, may have improved a bit, but that's debateable. I'm sure I'm forgetting some dudes. But it really doesn't seem like getting out of Chicago is a cure-all.2 points

Good luck to andrew. Quite honestly I hope he figures it out and becomes a good hitter. That being sad, he was never going to hit when he played for the White Sox.2 points

Hey, if Civale wants to request another trade, there's always Colorado.2 points

Fair. But they were massive successes, until they weren’t. I’m not declaring them victories or anything, I’m just not interested in waiting 5 years down the road to be invested in them when they look good now. It’s just more fun for me that way and lord knows we can all use a little more fun as Sox fans.2 points

If we're declaring victories with Smith, Vargas, Meidroth, and Quero this early, then Moncada, Eloy, TA, and Robert were all massive successes.2 points

Don't forget they pulled that crap with Kimbrel's option for $16M with the intent to trade him.2 points

No reason for Capra or Palacios to play another game with the big league team. Wasted ABs taking away from Teel/Quero with Palacios. Baldwin should be up tomorrow. Slater may have played the worst game I’ve ever seen. Vargas is heating back up which is fun. Astros played out of their mind defensively, insanely unlucky game for the Sox.2 points

At this point I'm not even concerned with what teams are interested. You aren't getting anything worthwhile enough to even look at team's prospects lists.2 points
